You seem to have a lot better luck than me, then. So far I have been:
Blown up by a ninja-creeper, then finished off by a skeleton while madly digging a hole to heal in.
Pushed off a cliff by a zombie,, suffering massive fall damage, then finished off by a skeleton while madly digging a hole to heal in.
Shot to hell and back by skeletons, killed them all but with barely any health left, then finished off by a skeleton while madly digging a hole to heal in.
Are we noticing a theme here?
Instead of digging a hole you should apply the age-old strategy of 'RUN AWAAAAAY!!' :biggrin.gif:
I dont have any hunger bar :< does fly mod work on survival? I dont think so. well but why not..
edit: I didnt play on default, works now... and ITS SO LAGGY OMG xD
Well said my texture packing partner in crime! (we are now, deal with it!)
Too many people complaining about what was pushed back into 1.9 and beyond, not enough love for the amazing new features that were just added!
I gotta say, combat and sprinting are probably my favourite parts of this update. They've made spelunking a lot more enjoyable and frightening! (especially with endermen)
Reasons why the 1.8 adventure update is the best thing to happen to minecraft since Alpha was released:
1) Endermen. This is probably the only mob that will ever give you goosebumps as it brushes past you. Not only is the design wraith-like and fabulous, but the way they interact with the player and the environment is novel and creepy in all the right ways.
2) Villages. No, there are no NPC populations yet. But finding empty towns fits very well with finding ruined mineshafts, and adds to the free-for-all 'abandoned world' feel of minecraft. Besides, they provide pre-made houses. :3
3) Mineshafts and Strongholds. A lot of minecrafters have been salivating for more exciting dungeons for a long time, and now we have them. Not only is there treasure, but the ruins themselves provide whole new areas of exploration.
4) Rivers and Oceans. What builder hasn't longed to construct that epic underwater city, only to find that the pre-1.8 'oceans' were more like puddles in their depth and size? And with rivers, you finally have an excuse to build those ornate bridges.
5) Giant mushrooms. Okay, so they look a little strange at first sight. But these colossal structures not only provide more interest to the terrain, they also serve as a way to quickly obtain mushrooms. Strategy: Plant mushroom, use bonemeal, chop down giant mushroom, collect many more mushrooms than you started with. No more having to wait for them to spread in your zombie-infested mushroom farm!
6)Bow animation and new bow mechanics. No, you can't machine gun your bow anymore. But you can off a creeper with only two arrows, and those annoying skeletons finally hold the things the right way (AND they telegraph when they are going to shoot, so you can potentially avoid the hail of arrows).
7)Melons. Tired of farming wheat, wheat, and more wheat? (and the occasional mushroom?). Now you can plant melons.
8)Pumpkin seeds. Before 1.8, the only way to obtain more pumpkins was to generate more terrain. Now you can grow your own.
9)Hunger. You can play on hard and still be able to regenerate health automatically when need be. It also adds more challenge to the game, and more reasons to farm and slaughter those pigs.
10) Creative mode. Finally, no more having to install a dozen mods in order to have infinite items, be able fly, and have the ability to break blocks with one hit.
11) Larger biomes. No more will you have to be frustrated over the lack of a spot for your desert temple that doesn't have a rainforest 20 blocks away.
12) Fence gates. How long have we wanted something to finish off the fences around our fields besides a wooden door?
13) Stone brick, Cracked stone brick, mossy brick, iron bars, glass panes, vines, web.... So many new building possibilities.
14) Chicken and beef. Get more variety in your diet.
15) New lighting for torches. If you want light above your bed, you will now get light above your bed rather than a diffused brightness.
17) Critical hits and blocking. Now there are more ways to fight than simply holding down the left mouse button.
18) Sprinting. Allows you to make those extra long jumps.
19) Ravines. Interesting new terrain feature that provides both a short cut to bedrock and the possibility of cliff-side builds.
Everyone has been concentrating on the negatives, but when you do you miss how many wonderful things this update has brought to us.
I agree that the update is ****ing fantastic! I just feel a bit let down by some of the hype. I felt let down when I heard Notch say that the update was going to be released in two parts, and I felt let down when it was "leaked" and seemed to be far from being a finished update.
MOST OF ALL I FEEL LET DOWN CAUSE IT DOESN'T RUN ON MY COMPUTER
Not because I have a shitty computer, but because the code isn't optimized yet. So I have to wait a little longer. :/

I've been having problems with lag-spikes too, so you're definitely not the only one.
Although I think they must be testing some kind of new optimization strategy, because when I'm NOT having lag spikes it runs fantastically. All green with f3. I've literally never had that many fps.

I'm actually in the the red no matter what I do in game, and usually in the red plus "clipping" (I'm a studio producer, clipping is just how I would describe lag spikes I guess. IDK what it's called in the data world). The only time I'm in the green all the time is when I run the game in windowed mode (albeit with the settings turned WAY down). Isn't that weird? I mean, I thought games ran better in full screen so the processor only had to focus on the game, no? Runs smoother on windowed.. LOL never in my 22 years of life have I had this happen. :wink.gif:
Maybe you've been in this game so long that it kinda bores you an you're looking for something new. But I've only been in the game a month and I was looking forward to playing the game, to see how far I could take it. Thing is, 1.8 isn't an "improved" game, it's a different game. And it's a game I'm not interested in. If I wanted to rpg, and roam around random villages, and level up with "experience points" I'd play WoW. I liked minecraft because it was different from WoW and similar but still different from Second Life. It was a game that I could create and make my own. Except for needed bug fixes, 1.7.3 was a fine game and didn't need to change. The least Notch could do is give players the option to switch back to 1.7.3 if they desire.
YES!

I played 10 minutes of 1.8 and REALLY don't like it. I was looking forward to having npc villages with npcs (should have expected to wait for 1.9 though....) so I had something artificial in the game to interact with other then bouncing bloody cows. And leveling? Why the hell would I want to level when I could do everything fine already? What is leveling seriously going to add to the game other then goals that you don't set yourself (which is completely NOT minecraft).

Yea, seems a lot more stable than previous versions... I'm also getting fewer lag spikes, awesome!
One of the best things in minecraft is to discover epic landscapes, or epic caverns, nice things that have been generated randomly and actually looks somehow so epic/nice/cute/wathever.
Having now villages, new biomes, mineshafts and stronghold are reinforcing the epic side of the epicness of minecraft
Does 1.8 meet my expectations? No, of course not, but that isn't because these ideas only sound good in theory and fail in reality. No, people are to blame. You hear or see an idea and you let yourself or someone else corrupt the idea. Usually, facts are laid before us, people just choose to interpret the knowledge as something it is not and then later blame it for not meeting their corrupted expectations.
Personally, I'm loving the new Biome code. The environments are larger and truly feel more realistic, I.E. being in the desert definitely gives you that "hopelessly lost" feeling. There's a lot more variety now, mountains definatley give players an awesome view of the landscape and can be used for mapping/ land marking. Ya there are still some hiccups with the terrain formation, but for the most part the game looks a hell of a lot better, especially with the new lighting.
I like the Enderman, but they need new sounds. They don't feel like they're fully complete yet. Notch has got to give them some really erie sounds to make them distinguishable from the rest.

Running doesn't prevent getting shot in the back, sadly.
I've seen them appearing after I kill off old ones. So I'm 99% sure they respawn.

If you are using a texture pack that has not been updated for 1.8, then the hunger bar is invisible.
And no, you can't fly on survival. Although I'm certain someone will make a mod that lets you. :smile.gif:

*fist-bump*
EDIT: I'm a pretty huge fan of endermen and the ruins myself. ^^

Just let them little 10 year olds do their QQ and they will cry and go back to their fabled Call of Duty.
Simple really! :smile.gif:
