You seem to have a lot better luck than me, then. So far I have been:
Blown up by a ninja-creeper, then finished off by a skeleton while madly digging a hole to heal in.
Pushed off a cliff by a zombie,, suffering massive fall damage, then finished off by a skeleton while madly digging a hole to heal in.
Shot to hell and back by skeletons, killed them all but with barely any health left, then finished off by a skeleton while madly digging a hole to heal in.
I absolutely love the new terrain generator and the hunger bar stuff. It makes it much more fun to find new areas than the way it was before where it was nearly nothing but a bunch of hills and trees scattered at random. Now I'm excited to find a mountain biome whereas before I was sick of them because I just wanted some freaking flat land to build on.
Though the Endermen could definitely use some work... They're easy to kill, not scary at all, and they mess up my forests by moving blocks around :sad.gif:
Maybe you've been in this game so long that it kinda bores you an you're looking for something new. But I've only been in the game a month and I was looking forward to playing the game, to see how far I could take it. Thing is, 1.8 isn't an "improved" game, it's a different game. And it's a game I'm not interested in. If I wanted to rpg, and roam around random villages, and level up with "experience points" I'd play WoW. I liked minecraft because it was different from WoW and similar but still different from Second Life. It was a game that I could create and make my own. Except for needed bug fixes, 1.7.3 was a fine game and didn't need to change. The least Notch could do is give players the ability to switch back 1.7.3 if they desire.
Rez: Unless the larger biomes and hunger are a deal breaker for you, all of the 1.8 features are optional. Though the hunger bar should be optional, I imagine mods have handled that already.
The bigger biomes make the terrain more organic. They seem to have added some code to make the biome transitions smoother too. F.ex I found a beach/desert biome that connected to a forest biome. it was separated by a river and there were only a few trees on the sand side and no sand on the forest side. Hard to describe but it looked awesome.
As for those not wanting the npc villages or the strongholds, just turn off the spawn structures option in the advanced world creating menu then you don't have to worry about them.
As for the hunger thing, if you spend most of your time above ground then you will never have to worry about it, its really when you go on the deep digs that it becomes a problem. So if you plan on spelunking spend a little time making some food first and then you will have no problems. The changes they've made to combat make it much easier to deal with certain mobs IMO and I find I take less damage overall. As long as my hunger bar is full I can continue to explore unhindered and just let my health regenerate over time. If I happen to fall to my death or into a large group of mobs well then that's my fault isn't it.
I love pretty much everything so far. The only tweak I would give is to endermen and only that they hit harder and make some kind of whispery demonic raspy noise...seems that would fit them. I'm currently doing the lonely island seed...dont know the exact seed name but it's quite popular in seeds section. I am having an absolute blast getting things to where I can not only explore the depths of my island but I also have to maintain food supply and expand my little speck of land. I wouldnt mind some livestock but I chose the tiny island so I knew what I was getting into...fish will do.
I cant wait to see what 1.9 brings because this is just awesome so far.
you suck at sidestepping?
