I guess we came to the conclusion that it's the result of our particular OS's not supporting openGL 1.3, which Minecraft now runs on. But, it's good to see that a good number of people are suffering much like myself.
And I have, within five minutes, pin pointed the problem (wow that was fast). Console shows me exactly what the problem was. However, I have no idea what the hell this means

It appears that I crashed when it placed a stronghold at an INVALID biome. I'm going to try a seed that works.
Honestly I'm surprised changing the LWJGL actually produced any useful info lol
I just knew from experience that a bug with the X window system vs. the version in MC by default caused an incredibly annoying bug.
Be reasonable. Honestly, a lot of the problems Mac users have with Minecraft as due to the way the Apple company operates.
I know someone that can't use mods because Apple hasn't released a current version of Java for his version of Mac OS X even though it's only a few versions behind.
Yeh i know i was meaning to rage, im just really excited
Oh ****, it appears that I need a new version of mac to run minecraft :sad.gif:. But this doesn't explain how my friend who runs 10.4.11 can play. Maybe his macbook pro has a better graphics card...
aeugh, I really don't want to buy lion over this. 10.5.8 has served me well, considering the only game I really played on the computer was minecraft. If I truly wanted a PC gaming experience, I would have gotten a PC.
I honestly hope that the previous post stating that I need opengl 3.0 isn't true. I'm sitting with fingers crossed that a patch will come out and everything will be fixed. But i have a feeling I'm screwed.
Honestly guys, I'll throw this out there as a solution to bypass the whole Apple won't take care of older Mac program versions thing.
If you have 2-3GB of RAM or more get VirtualBox and install a Linux distribution inside a virtual machine.
Note: For those of you that try this if any, you WILL need to install Sun Java with most distributions as a lot of them supply the open source version of java by default. You also need to give the VM 300-500MB of RAM + the RAM you intend to allocate to java.
Basically I propose this workaround because it's both free, plausible, and doesn't require you risking destroying Mac OS to dual boot or being left behind due to Apple's laziness.

Yeah bro it will be because he has a good graphics card that already supports a decent opengl version.
@EHS_Shaman you only need snow leopard bro not lion i was just saying that lion adds further opengl support than snow leopard
@omega1337 You only need 1.3 not 3.0 bro
haha just noticed i was replying to you anyways *facepalm*

I'd been wondering if Lion was worth it anyway. Owning a mac has sort of made me computer illiterate. God bless my parents, but had I known the trouble them buying me a mac would cause...
Ugh, I just checked the website. The craptel gma 950 supports opengl 1.2. Gah. So are you sure I will be able to run minecraft if I update to snow leopard (it isn't cheap...).
James Super Dude said:(I'm having this problem too but I have the solution for all of you! Unfortunately it might be bad news for some. Ok so the latest update of minecraft requires graphics cards which support opengl 1.3 and if you have and intergrated mac card eg the GMA X3100 like me or the GMA 950 you only have opengl support up to 1.2 which is bogus because both cards support 1.4 on pcs and in the case of the X3100 it supports up to 2.1. Here is the solution - Snow Leopard (10.6) and Lion (10.7) have increased opengl support so if you update to either it will increase your opengl support to at least 1.4 meaning you will be able to play minecraft again!
Also dont be fooled by my low post count I am not trying to mess anyone around I just want to play 1.8 like all of yall!)
Well, an update to snow leopard would probably work considering what you've said.
yeah bro check this osx opengl compatability chart. it shows everything you need to know. you can change which os it is displaying the info for on the page easily

If that card can't run it there's no real way to get around that since Mac generally doesn't let you upgrade hardware as far as I'm aware...

No, that was me.
