Originally, I wasn't going to write this post, because I knew that I would get a ton of hate. But I felt I had to say it.
I'm not going to stop playing Minecraft, and I KNOW this is just a beta, but I think the 1.8 update is a step backwards for Minecraft. Here's why:
-Food is pointless. Just a mundane task for us to do-- eat food every so often. It would be okay if it was challenging, if it added something to the game, but getting food is too easy.
-Grass color is awful. Since when has grass been blue IRL? Did I miss the memo?
-Endermen. Too easy to kill, but they can kill your house. Contrary to popular belief, they CAN take blocks out of your house. This is extremely annoying. And don't tell me to build in Creative mode-- some people want to build AND adventure on the same map.
-Trees. Why are all trees pine trees now? They're all the same, and it's annoying.
-Biomes. There's way too much space that just has pine trees and bluegrass. There's no desert, or snow, or mountains anymore. No variety.
-Snow. Snow was a great feature of Minecraft, and it's broken until 1.9!! Seriously? Really, Notch.
-NPC villages. Some people may like them, but I don't want them, and there should be a way to turn them off. (Maybe there is a way, please correct me on this if I'm not correct.
-Combat. Enemies hit almost all the time right on, so it's basically a battle of health.
-Lag and crashing. TONS of it.
-XP bar. I know it's actually going to do something in 1.9, but WHY HAVE IT IN UNTIL THEN?? Just put it in in 1.9, when it actually has a use. It's very useless and unelegant right now.
-Buggy. I know they're working out the bugs, but right now this is a problem.
-1.7 worlds aren't even compatible with the new features! (Maybe that's a good thing, though).
-During combat, after fighting one enemy, you have to run away and recover your health before coming back. That's dumb, Notch, and it interupts the flow of the game.
-Red flowers. Just a little thing, but there are no red flowers anymore. If you don't believe me, open up your game.
-Spawn points. You always spawn inside trees or in the ocean now.
And that's just a few of the things. If you don't agree with me, please don't flame me in the comments. I DO realize that a lot of people disagree with me.
But if you agree with me, please post a comment like mine!
1.8 =
Thanks for listening to my rant.
i think the xp actually does something and the feature is one of notch's secret updates
this is so since i didnt get a single crit hit before i leveled up one xp bar and the more i played and leveled up i seemed to get more crit hits.
As kaapo showed, half of you're "bugs" were false. There is still different trees. There is still different biomes. Having blue hues in the grass seemse realistic to me. As does having to heal, rather than charge into battle and instantly make your health go up by eating pork in one second.
Ever notice how with each new update, there is a veritable flood of "1.x sux rofl"? And how the majority of the vocal nay-sayers have a forum join date of less than a few days, with a post count of well less than 100?
And after a while of a new update being released, the whining dies down, the whiners crawl back into their holes to do whatever it is they do.
Then another update is released, and the whole cycle starts over.
1.8 is fun. I like it. I've experienced a very stable Minecraft with far fewer bugs to worry about than previous updates could claim.
I don't respect your opinion, because you obviously haven't taken more than 5 minutes to explore 1.8. You can easily reach as many conclusions in 5 minutes as you can in 5 days, but the quality of those conclusions clearly shows which one is the case here.
Seriously? It's obvious that I've explored for more than 5 minutes, because I have come to these conclusions. Do you think I really did ALL of this stuff in the first 5 minutes of the game?

I have liked every update up until now, so it's not EVERY update. And I realize I only joined recently-- I've been trying to join this forum over the course of the past YEAR but for some reason, my internet didn't let me. I have been watching these forums for a long long time.
And I am not a "whiner". I have stated my points concisely and clearly. My points are trying to make Minecraft better for everyone. What is wrong with that?
-Trees. Why are all trees pine trees now? They're all the same, and it's annoying.
-Biomes. There's way too much space that just has pine trees and bluegrass. There's no desert, or snow, or mountains anymore. No variety.

-Spawn points. You always spawn inside trees or in the ocean now.
1: You can get other trees. They're just in different biomes. Go explore lots and you'll find some :smile.gif:
2: They're much bigger now. There's still desert and mountains. No snow though :sad.gif:. Just have to explore. I found a nice mountain biome in my world :smile.gif:. It's a nice place :smile.gif:
3: You can turn the NPC villages off. When making the world, just click the "More world options", and then turn the structures off
4: I don't have any lag or crashing? I can still play at max FPS, normal render distance, fancy and smooth lighting and still have 100+ FPS
5: Minecraft wouldn't be a very good BETA game if there weren't any bugs in it, would it :tongue.gif:?
6: You can still get red flowers. Or, at least when I last checked in the first pre release. Just use bonemeal on grass. I know, it's not natural, but hey, if you really want, then there's an answer :smile.gif:
6: I've never spawned in a tree or an ocean. Always near water, sometimes on sand, sometimes not, but never inside the water or in a tree :S?
Link to E-Toro = Link Removed (shortened it because of signature length rules) Yeah It's pretty cool sorta like E-Bay but you trade instead meh just check it out.

-Food is pointless. Just a mundane task for us to do-- eat food every so often. It would be okay if it was challenging, if it added something to the game, but getting food is too easy.
What? Getting tons of food is the point. You have to be prepared to go into caves. In addition to this, you can no longer spam-heal yourself, which, IMO, takes out a lot of fun from the game.
-Grass color is awful. Since when has grass been blue IRL? Did I miss the memo?
I really have no idea what you're talking about. I see normal colored grass. Are you talking about Tundra Biomes? Well, it was ALWAYS like that.
-Endermen. Too easy to kill, but they can kill your house. Contrary to popular belief, they CAN take blocks out of your house. This is extremely annoying. And don't tell me to build in Creative mode-- some people want to build AND adventure on the same map.
Again, this can be solved by placing some torches around your house. However, this has never happened to me. Ever. So I'm not even sure it's true.
-Trees. Why are all trees pine trees now? They're all the same, and it's annoying.
Obviously, you haven't walked for 2 minutes.
-Biomes. There's way too much space that just has pine trees and bluegrass. There's no desert, or snow, or mountains anymore. No variety.
I would post pictures of my epic server seed with floating mountains and completely covered grass cave-lakes, but I'm too lazy to. But trust me. It's AMAZING.
-Snow. Snow was a great feature of Minecraft, and it's broken until 1.9!! Seriously? Really, Notch.
It's called WALKING. Oh wait, I already said that.
-NPC villages. Some people may like them, but I don't want them, and there should be a way to turn them off. (Maybe there is a way, please correct me on this if I'm not correct.
There is a way. Already explained.
-Combat. Enemies hit almost all the time right on, so it's basically a battle of health.
Oh! I know the problem now! You suck at Minecraft.
-Lag and crashing. TONS of it.
Fixed. I get no lag and no crashes. In fact, my FPS has gone up around 10 frames, and the LSOD's are gone. Anyone else notice this?
-XP bar. I know it's actually going to do something in 1.9, but WHY HAVE IT IN UNTIL THEN?? Just put it in in 1.9, when it actually has a use. It's very useless and unelegant right now.
The orbs are pretty. Actually, gonna have to agree on you with this one.
-Buggy. I know they're working out the bugs, but right now this is a problem.
I do not see any bugs. Besides Endermen in multiplayer. Please list bugs.
-1.7 worlds aren't even compatible with the new features! (Maybe that's a good thing, though).
Cool.
-During combat, after fighting one enemy, you have to run away and recover your health before coming back. That's dumb, Notch, and it interupts the flow of the game.
Actually, you no longer have to scroll to food to get back your health while running away from mobs. It's much more continuous, now that you no longer have to worry about health after every battle.
-Red flowers. Just a little thing, but there are no red flowers anymore. If you don't believe me, open up your game.
Walk for a bit? I have red flowers.
-Spawn points. You always spawn inside trees or in the ocean now.
Ummmm....no?
And that's just a few of the things. If you don't agree with me, please don't flame me in the comments. I DO realize that a lot of people disagree with me.

Kinda useless rant, but no problem!
Ahhhh, that felt good.
But seriously, all your opinions are stupid or just plain false. It's much worse then many threads out there complaining about ACTUAL PROBLEMS in the game. Which is not much, tbh.

Thanks for replying in a polite and clear way, unlike many of these trolls. Although I don't really agree with you, I respect your opinion.
Will a mod please close and delete the topic, please? Apparently, not many are having the same problems as I.
Thanks to everyone who posted on the topic, even with the people I don't agree with. While I believe you are wrong, I respect your opinions. :smile.gif:

LOL. May change the name of the topic so less trolls click on it.

Open up Minecraft and go into a world.

You know, you could always roll back to 1.73.
The update is awesome in my opinion. Haters gonna hate.
What parts don't you agree with out of curiousity?
