So err, what happens if those chunks were generated before version 1.8?
It should still work, since the new chunks will be using the same seed value. Hopefully you didn't already venture out to where the coordinates are. :tongue.gif:
Last post I can make, but I'll try to edit some things when I get a chance.
I edited the first post with a link to the application. A tiny bit of testing makes me think that the two other coordinates aren't working. I'll see what I can do to fix that.
i have put in a for loop and ventured to the third set of coordinates i got.. dug all the way to bedrock and found nothing.. then i used cartographer g (cave mode) and found out that there is something that looks like an abandoned mineshaft with odd rooms in it.. dug around a bit and finally hit the stronghold at cca y=30.
now i'm trying to restore it to it's former glory. and I think i'll call it moria since the entrance (i dug out) came up just one block from a lake and there is a ravine running right through the stronghold..
so basically i'm trying to say that the 3rd set of coordinates also works but you'll have to look around a bit.
I used the tool to find the coordinates for my seed.
Any tips on how to find it from there if it is not directly down? I have tried a transparent texture pack, but I am still not able to pick it out of all the other clutter. Maybe someone could recommend another texture pack or give some other tips.
The 1.8 final code uses the same method to generate 3 stronghold now. The first stronghold is located at the same as 1.8-pre1, then it rotates the direction by 1/3 (2pi/3) and rolls a new distance.
import java.util.Random;
class Strongholds {
public static void main(String[] args) {
Random c = new Random();
c.setSeed(insert your seed here and dont forget to end it with L);
double d = c.nextDouble() * 3.1415926535897931D * 2D;
for(int l = 0; l < 3; l++)
{
double d1 = (1.25D + c.nextDouble()) * 32D;
int j1 = (int)Math.round(Math.cos(d) * d1);
int k1 = (int)Math.round(Math.sin(d) * d1);
int j2 = (j1 << 4) + 8;
int k2 = (k1 << 4) + 8;
System.out.println(l + ": " + j2 + " " + k2);
d += 6.2831853071795862D / 3D;
}
}
}

Your code is ALMOST right. That's what I did when I first wrote the application, but it turns out it uses the same Random variable to generate a bunch more integers. So by the time it gets to stronghold two and three it's way past just nextDouble() --- I released a new version which SHOULD accurately do the right amount of randoms in between.
My seed is: 2178893810527293159 can you find the coords for a stronghold?
I've tried all 3 of the projected points for the seed and none of them lead to a stronghold, does it work for multiplayer servers? It is X then Z right? Finally, would going to those points and digging strait down provide any results if the app was correct?
Can I get some coordinates for -1846853118 ? This seed is making some kickass mountains and swamps, and i recently found my first village on the outskirts of a desert :smile.gif: looking forward to falling into my first mineshaft someday!
You know how they supposedly spawn 500 blocks from the start? Is that true even for older maps that get new 1.8 chunks generated or is it 500 blocks from the new chunks?
It should still work, since the new chunks will be using the same seed value. Hopefully you didn't already venture out to where the coordinates are. :tongue.gif:

Please take a look and see if it works!
Please find my Seeds stronghold!
I think you missed the part where I wrote an application to do this.
