Made a video couple days ago of village which I found and reconstructed:
-snip-
I like the little mountain village there.
You reconstruction is a little more direct, as you rebuilt most houses, and then added on. I like this.
Great work. Are you going to be doing any more? Adding onto the village, or finding a new one to build on?
I have a little town in the desert biome near my home in an SMP server I participate in. I decided to claim the town as part of my territory, and named it. I'm thinking of doing some renovation of the town. But instead of doing the "Sandstone Egyptian Motif" I'm thinking of more of an old Mexican town like you might have seen in an old Clint Eastwood movie.
I'm just a little concerned abount how the NPCs will define, and recognize their town. If I replace their doors, will they be able to operate them? if I replace their farms and such, will they know where to find them?
And more importantly, how will the NPCs know where the town begins and ends? Can I expand the town? or will they be milling around only in the original town's boundaries?
+1 for thinking about the idea
+0 for using creative mode to do it
What's so wrong with using creative mode to build a town?
I like to casually build, if I want to play Survival mode I'll switch over to survival mode. :/
[ I want to point out that this is like saying "Oh you built that with Legos? +1 Oh wait, you didn't make the Legos yourself. +0"]
@zebragrrl - I think that people may need to spawn new maps for NPCs, or head to new chunks anyway. But that's just speculation. We'll have to see how NPCs behave before assuming how they can interact wit things. :c
Anything is always more fulfilling when more time and effort is put into it. Knowing that all you did to expand the village was select some blocks and place them is hardly outstanding.
I think you should take a second look at what I've been doing. Go into the album and take a look. I've added multiple buildings to the first village, a large tower, aswell as created a whole new village, and I'm still working on it.
Edit: I'd also like to add that I've reconstructed many of the houses.
Yes, putting more time an effort into something is fulfilling, which is why I'm spending such a vast amount of time on this, aswell as my on survival world. I do have other things I have to get done in life, too, you know. Still try to be social, and work and whatnot.
So, by you saying that I'm not spending any time on this, and that it's not outstanding, is sort of a sore move. :/
Update: I've added a library, now. Here's what it looks like.
I have yet to take pictures of the tunnel I did under the lighthouse. [The lighthouse is that giant building that's in this town, other than the library. You can find it in the album. There's also a picture of it on the front page.]
Ok, here's what I have so far. It's slow going cause I've been working in Survival mode. I guess I'm just stubborn that way, but I'm having fun so, whatever.
So far I've fixed a lot of the roads, moved into the house with the deck on the lake (built the deck), and built the blacksmith.
Also, updating my new town. I've added two houses, a melon farm, some ruins, a tree of life area, and a Sheriff's Jailhouse [Minus Jail doors, for obvious reasons]. The Sheriff's Jailhouse doesn't have pictures yet. I just finished it.
I'm hoping that Mojang will add in some bar doors, in the next update. That would be handy.
The ruins lead to a path that goes underwater for quite some ways.
I plan on making catacombs here, and at the end, have a special large room that "ancients" made.
My new town now have 11 houses, just the the first village. But I'm still expanding, so we'll see how many buildings I have in the end.
Ill post pictures when im a little further in the renovation :smile.gif:

It's coming along nicely. I'll get some screenshots when I get a chance.

Although, desert biomes FTW.

My next project is a church, then a library.
