This is, if any of those suggestions are added, would be the one added as it would FORCE the player to do more than sit on their ass and would make the game less manipulatable.
Are you saying my alternatives wouldn't make people get out and explore? That having to traverse a dozen biomes to create the item wouldn't incentivize exploration? That being able to craft the items you get from the boss into what you want is goign to make them not hunt it down? If I have to fight a dozen bosses and hope they drop the item I want, I'm not even going to bother. Thats like saying if you go and fight the toughest guy in school, beat him, then roll 3 sixes on 3 dice, you will get a X-box.
I don't have the slightest objection to going on a journey and facing obstacles to get what I want. I despise the idea of going on a journy and facing obstacles to have a slight chance of getting what I want.

Well seeing as minecraft mobs arent tough in anyway shape or form to a guy with a bow and space to use it yes i stand by what ive said. Also No as where biomes spawn are 100% random so basicly you just said the same thing i did with a different method of obtaining them :tongue.gif:
I rather like the idea of them being a pain the obtain. They are, after all, special items.
The difference is between difficult to obtain and difficult to randomly obtain.
There was another option I forgot to mention:
legends.
If there was some way of finding legenes(say, books in the stronghold's libraries) that would give you something to go on to find them. Something like "past the great moutnains to the north, west across the seas, in the heart of the forest is the tree of life". Doesn't give you precise directions, but enough to track down the item you want. The legends could be long, requiring aand epic journey. They could require you to hunt down 3 strongholds first. But don't make me jump through a bunch of hoops to roll a die on whether I get what want.

We don't know how tough or not the bosses will be, what new mobs they may add, etc. Most people are claiming hte blue spiders are OP. I haven't fought any yet so I can't say. But if you are not going to count mobs as an obstacel, what will you count?
And there is a world of difference between exploring to find a specific type of biome, then exploring withing that biome for something, and tracking down a stronghold and beating the boss to see if its what you want.
Randomness works when it is operating in mass. mining is random, but there are so many blocks mined that your overall trend ends up with a fairly regular distribution. You are also operating on resources, which are collected in quantity. There are many of them, and you are trying to collect them in general.
Biomes are in several types, so tracking down a specific type of biome is fairly reasonable. They are also large and easy to see. There is a world of difference between "Find a mountain" and "track down a buried stronghold, loot it, and see if it is what you want". If the biome is not what you want, you know it instantly, and can continue on.
I personaly Love the new biome sizes, if anything I think they need to be LARGER!
I like not having to mow down entire mountains to get a decently flat place to build a village town or city, though I think it would be nice if plains were even flater with less rolling hills
and I would like to get watah mellon without going underground
