I'm really dissapointed with the Endermen, maybe it's only on SMP because i only play there, but the Endermen don't even do anything half the time, and when they do, i one or two hit them!
Never thought i'd say this;
NOTCH PLEASE FIX PLZZZ QQ PLZ NOTCHH TEH CAEK ISA LIE
Endermen are just disappointing in general. Not only do they fail to be a challenge but they also fail to be creepy. Here's why:
1.The Texture: The first incarnation put these guys as pure black with white eyes. What we got was a brown/grey mod with bright green eyes. I don't know about you, but bright green and brown don't exactly make me cower under the bedsheets.
2.Their Actions: The Endermen originally did several things:
They wandered around picking up and placing blocks at random, always keeping their distance from the player.
When the player looks at them, they turn around and stare directly at him until he looks away. Then he teleports behind him and attacks, killing him instantly.
Here's what they do now:
They wander rather close to the player, making no effort to be elusive in the slightest, always in plain sight. When the player looks at him, he drops his jaw and shakes and smokes like some kind of ****ing cartoon. Then he runs at the player directly in his field of vision, occasionally teleporting 1 block ahead for no real reason, and punch you in the face.
I'm sorry, but this is just stupid. It went from being a super-strange and elusive creature to a ****ing zombie that shoots steam out its ears when it's pissed.
3.Spawning: They were built up as rare creatures that never spawn close to the player and generally try to avoid contact in general. However, what we got was totally different. They are almost as common as ****ing creepers and they spawn rather close to the player, making no effort to retreat if the player ventures near them.
4. They have no purpose: They don't really do anything. They aren't a threat, they aren't scary, so why are they here? Is it to add more unessecary ******** to MC? Like we needed more of that.
I vote for a complete overhaul of the Endermen and make them more like described above, staying away from the player and being creepy and subtle.
I think enderman arn't really scary I met a lot of them and i was like is this a joke? They just sit there and i just kill them very easily. I think that endermen should go around looking for specific blocks for these runes they'll build that spawn other mobs or when they see you and you turn around they spawn like 3 skeletons then i'd be running xD. Skeletons are currently the hardest mob to me.
Endermen:
Pros- They are differen't errrrm they carry blocks
Cons- They are weak, They are missing the scare factor like skeletons and creepers, They are killed/avoided to easily, they should spawn in packs of 7-11, they should actually drop something useful (i say something to make chainmail), They don't work in smp currently, I could go on and on lol.
Dude, relax. The game hasn't been released yet. This is standard beta stuff that will be fixed. Maybe you'd focus more on telling us something that we don't know.
Just a thought.
I seriously doubt that Notch or Jeb are going to completely rework features they took time to implement. Would they really remove the "open jaw" thing that they spend time added just because everyone thinks it's retarded?
Endermen are a laughing stock right now. They look goofy when you stare at them, and they're very easy to kill.
Improvements!
- Remove the "Scream Jaw". It doesn't need a mouth. It would be scarier without one.
- Remove the constant "Green Eyes". Their eyes should only turn green when they're attacking you.
- Add an animation for when you look right at them. Instead of them popping into "OMG" mode, just have them freeze, and slowly turn their head towards you.
- Have them immediately teleport if they start to take damage from you. None of that "Just stare and shoot" bull.
- Give them the ability to teleport behind you.
- Add a teleporting sound...Something startling like a loud "CRACK!".
- Add more creepy sounds for them. Idle sounds should be creepy, and they should have something terrifying for when they're attacking you.
- Add a damage buff, where it would kill you in two hits.
- Add a slight health buff.
- Make the Endermen's damage ignore armor.
- Have them drop their blocks when they attack.
I think all these additions would make the Enderman a terrifying monster that any level of player would learn to avoid at all costs, and **** their pants should they have the misfortune to engage one.
Edit: Almost forgot...Make them spawn in groups of 1-2, and slightly more rare. With all these changes, they can't just pop up everywhere.
YES YES YES! This. The zombie sounds are temporary, but everything else you said is great.
Guys, they're working on it.
They pretty much are re-created zombies that can hold blocks and drop a new item.
Let them finish before you go judging by the PRE-RELEASE
They're going to do 8 hearts of damage on easy mode, There you go.
8.5 on normal and 9 on hard.
HAPPY NOW?
Making them simply do more damage isn't enough to fix the failure that is the Enderman.
i think they should have the same health or more then a human. then give it the ability to do a ranged attack. because honestly im more scared of a skeleton. or have them attempt to break into your house during the night. idk just some ideas
Yes. Skeletons don't have any better aim, but with the new update, arrow speed is increased by a LOT. If I see a skeleton and I'm unprepared, I run for it. If I see an Enderman and I'm unprepared, I kill it anyway.
1. Increase damage to 4 hearts
2. Always teleport BEHIND you
3. Make them more rare and not spawn in groups
4. When you look at them you completely freeze for 5 seconds, your curser locked on the enderman's face
5. Pumpkins no longer make endermen IGNORE you, but remove the 5 second freeze
6. Remove damage from water and rain
7. Make the eyes white, but red when alerted (maybe add some red light too)
8. At sunrise instead of dying, endermen will vanish with a black smoke effect
Just my thoughts :smile.gif:
Good ideas! I like the "you-can't-look-away" thing. I also didn't like how the Endermen, which seem to be sentient creatures, just dumbly stand in the sun to burn to death.
I think the guys at Mojang trod too carefully. They presumed the enders would be so overpowered that these 'weaknesses' needed to be put in for balance. I'd change the ender pearl use, make them not burn in sunlight (maybe just fade away) and maybe add a 'teleport dodge' when swung at?
The teleport dodge is good. I should make a list of all the changes that should be made.

This sums up the Endermen really nicely. +1 for you.
They ought to make more use of their teleportation power when weak or make it so they can punch you back. Make it so you freeze for a second when you startle them so they can at least land a hit. Ooh! Imagine if they could teleport the player into the air and drop you like a brick.
I think when you look at the Enderman then look away from it so it starts attacking, there is no way to make it stop again. And when it is attacking you it should teleport around you to confuse the player then tp behind them and hit them. if it is carrying a block it should place it down to try to trap the player.
If you walk up to an Enderman with the pearl in hand and you look at it, it gets angry and stronger because you killed his/her/its species.
Right now I'm disappointed. Instead of cowering in my bed and crying like a little baby like I do with skeletons and creepers I actually feel happy when I see an Enderman and I run right up to it. Even give it a hug if I'm on a server (they're broken in smp if you didn't know).
Just what I think :mellow.gif:
for me it depends on what gear I have on me. Bow and Arrow? easy as pie. Lately with the update I have tried to get a bow and some arrows as quick as possible just because of the enderman.
you forgot one way of killing. Since they don't move until you look away, just charge them with a sword and go crazy. I have done it a few times with no problem.
They need a bit of a tweak. It'd be cool if they made a scary noise before they hit you, took away half your health, and tossed you a few meters when they hit. That'd make them scary enough.
It has only been a few hours from your last post. :ohmy.gif:
I wouldn't call it dead just yet.
As for the topic, yes, they are probably quite unmistakably the most easy mob to kill and have a lot more potential that isn't being used currently.
Here's a few random ideas:
You know, it would be fun if their teleportation powers were put to a bit more use.
First of all, when you stare at them, have them stare like they do now but make it where after like 3 seconds they teleport half way closer to you and begin attacking. If they are far away and if you attempt to shoot them while they are in their "stare" state, they have a 75% chance to teleport dodge it depending on how far away you are. If you move too close to them in their "stare" state, they immediately go for you. Sucks to be the person who is within 5 blocks. :tongue.gif: This is to prevent cheap stab-them-while-they-stare tactics.
When you attempt to shoot arrows at them while they are charging at you, they have a 50% chance to teleport dodge it and appear somewhere else in your field of vision a lot closer to you but not in the same exact direction you were aiming towards.
Swinging a sword at them has a small, perhaps 25% 15% chance to have them teleport a bit back from you and rush towards you like they were.
If they are blocked by a two block entryway then they either place whatever block they currently have somewhere else to then immediately go for that third block that is preventing entry or teleport if your location has three blocks of ceiling space and they can't take that third block due to it not being natural.
At sunrise or rainfall, they hide in the nearest cave, while slowly waiting for you in a cave. When you least expect it, they will come and get you. (Note that this is only when they were attempting to chase you. If they are not chasing you then they just disappear in a cloud of smoke or teleport in some cave maybe.) If you somehow try to trap them in water, they attempt to go for somewhere safer.
I have another idea but it is probably silly so don't take it seriously.
-Perhaps they should have the ability to cast magic or something at you if they can see you but can't reach/get to you somehow. They have those pearls. Perhaps they have magic since they can teleport? *shrugs*
And perhaps their pearls can help you defend against such attacks.
-Complete Enderman Revamp. (Key: * means addition, x means change, - means remove.)
* Give it a "teleport dodge" ability for avoiding melee attacks.
* Staring at an Enderman for too long will make you unable to look away for several seconds.
* Give them creepy whispering sounds as ambient, demented shouts of pain for hurt, and a loud "CRACK!" for teleporting sound.
* When low on health, they should attempt to grab the player and teleport him off a high area.
x Ender Pearls are no longer used to push them away, and are instead used for making a Hearth Stone: an item that can teleport you to your spawn point 5 times before breaking.
x Endermen teleport to you if they are attacked.
x Endermen always teleport behind you.
x Make them disappear with a flash of smoke in the daytime.
- Remove their vulnerability to water.
- Remove their restless quivering like a four-year-old who needs to pee and their open mouth once you look at them.

I for one think they ought to be able to teleport to any side of you. This way the battle is much more concentrated and difficult. In addition an attack on the Enderman should cancel the stare.
enders are WAY too easy, i just walk right up to them while looking at their feet, and two quick chops and they're down. their buddies don't even care! they should form in larger groups and ALL of them should attack when one catches you lookin'. the pigman swarm comes to mind. now that would be f'd up.
and walking right into water? come on notch, you can do better than that. they should hover just over the water and smash you in the face when you come up for air.

If Mojang doesn't do this I want a mod that does.

but i like that mobs i just want one a little bit more stronger and it would be perfect
Dont forget .... that can be pretty scary getting chased by 2 in a little cave :tongue.gif:
Maybe someone would be able to do this...
Then only aggro one at a time! :tongue.gif:
The only way that could happen is if you were surprised by one.
