I seriously LOL at people that go "WELL LET'S SEE YOU CODE BETTER THAN MOJANGZZZ!"
OP never said that they could. I have every right to say a game/a muffin/a shoe sucks ass, even if I can't do better, because other people/products set the standard higher.
Will you all stop complaining? 1.8 may not be perfect, but it is a blast. I do agree that maybe he should add more content in such a large amount of time, but still, just half of what he promised is a shite load of stuff. Yes, there may be bugs. But like other people have mentioned, it's just a beta game. I'm sure that when Notch releases the full game in November (or later than that), it'll be bug-free and content-loaded. So shut your trap and wait, you trolls.

P.S. Hope I didn't offend anyone. XD
I had to lol at that you are dreaming if you think he will suddenly be able to release a version without bugs
Minecraft 1.8 patch notes
-Added pumpkin seeds for easier making of jack-o-lanterns and defense against endermen
-Added Swamp Biome for a more realistic world variety and to make clay easier to find
-Removed Smelting to increase difficulty and make finding diamonds more meaningful
-Player death means server needs to be reset unless on Peaceful with animals on top, felt mourning was more realistic
I'm honestly not surprised at anything this terrible community says anymore.
It wouldn't be inaccurate to say no matter what Notch or anyone else at Mojang does, the fanbase will never be pleased.
^
I do remember the masses screaming for a buggy version that notch didn't want to release. "Gimme the buggy version. I can't wait." - "I paid for this game. I should be able to play it now." - "Its in beta. Were supposed to be the beta testers. Why cant we have it now to test it?"
Guess what. You got it. Don't like it, too bad.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
-I got a fever, and the only prescription, is moar Minecraft.
This has always been one of the stupidest replies anyone can ever give when someone is criticizing anything.
One does not have to be a chef to tell someone else their cooking sucks.
One does not have to be an mechanic to tell that a car sucks.
One does not have to be a home builder to tell that a house or building is built shabbily.
It's just a stupid point.
I especially love the guy who ranted at everyone about complaining, and then called them fanboys at the same time. I don't think you know what that terms means kiddo. The fanboys are the ones who mindlessly defend this game, and this patch, from every single complaint leveled against it.. no matter how constructive or accurate. People who are complaining that they don't like it are far from fanboys. Indeed, you should look in the mirror.
I, like many, have been highly anticipated the 1.8 update since it was announced months ago. All I would like to know, is with atleast 2 months of planning, coding, testing, etc, why does Notch and Mojang half-ass everything? Why is it, that a single mod developer can add more to the game in one week than notch can in 2 months? Does anyone remember the Halloween update? Everyone was extremely excited for it and couldn't wait, only to see it was half-assed and never finished. I feel like this release is going to be the same way. For example: endermen.
The way notch described endermen was creepy and adrenaline-pumping. I imagined them to be awesome and scary. But in reality, what do they do? they walk toward you and cause damage when they touch you. Yeah, real scary.
Or how's about NPC villages. I expected a bunch of pigmen living in harmony, working together mutually. What did we get? A bunch of horribly generated houses that are extremely bugged.
Sorry for the rage thread, but I can't stand the fact that Notch can't do more work in 2 months than any other dev can do in 1 week. I remember the days when notch would update every Friday, and he was close with the community.
On a more positive note: mine shafts, blue spiders, new lighting, silverfish, biomes, and the new combat are awesome. And I do understand that this is just a pre-release, but any other developer team would have atleast 50 more features after 2 months of coding. I do think notch is great, but he needs to get back to the way it was when he was actually an indie game developer. He got more done back then.
Endermen also remove blocks all the time. So over time all grass will be gone
Chill man, 1.8 isn't out yet you know, so its bugged. Also, theyre making millions of dollars. And guess what. You're not. So you shouldn't be talking. There will be NPC's in 1.8 FYI.
Yes, making tons of money off of something, which will give you plenty of extra free-time, is a perfectly good and valid reason to not do work.
Personally, I'm a bit disappointed as well. Notch has an obligation to work to finish this game, and he's spending his time making other games for other people, and entering game-making contests.
I expect the full, finished "game release" to be pushed back to next April. Either that, or it won't actually add anything and will just be given a sloppy title.
yes another topic started by someone critiquing notches ability to write code by someone that likely has never written any code in his life, and most likely never debugged something.
Guess what?
It's hard.
also, ffs, mods are not the same as the rest of the code, and the vast majority of them are written really poorly, or based on mob/item/recipe/object addition tutorials, which they then just modify the values and make a texture to get what they want.
When you purchase Minecraft you do so as is, be it in the early stages of development or already fully released. Subsequent updates are only an added bonus and not a guarantee, as icing on a cake. Purchases during the development of the game are discounted and include the full game upon release.
As we at Mojang strive towards releasing updates for our projects we cannot guarantee that any project will ever be completed and/or provided support for. There's always the risk of a project being discontinued at any time.
Seriously when the **** are people going to stop making threads about how "lazy" notch is.
Its the same ****in thing every time op says notch is "insert negative thing here" the people who agree with the op say the same thing in a smart ass way and the notch supporters (or to the op of many threads like this notch worshipers) say "he has a life". then theres a endless back and forward. And the next day (or the next hour) THE SAME ****IN THING HAPPENS.
You forgot the point where people who actually know about programming and what Notch and jeb are going through, like Mystify, come in to explain to people why things are the way they are. They then get promptly ignored.
This has always been one of the stupidest replies anyone can ever give when someone is criticizing anything.

However it does have some merit. Those who have little to no experience in any activity can not have a fully developed opinion on how things should go.
Anyways, Notch and jeb wanted to take time to get things right and stomp on game breaking bugs. Mass outrage led to what happened now. Also, it is generally smart for a company, especially one in Sweden with its high taxes, to make more than one game at a time. Most companies do that, its just smart business from what I understand.
Read the damn thread. I wrote about this earlier on the frist page. I understand that they have lives, but think. They don't have any other jobs, making minecraft IS there job. A typical full-time job is 40 hours per week. that's about 8 hours per 5-day work week. if they just sat down for 4-5 hours every day and tried to get as much done as they can, they'd have 2.0 out months ago.
But they dont. I wouldn't doubt if they give minecraft 1 hour every other day, and then do nothing for the rest of their time.
with proper time management, you can have time for work, hobbies, family, friends, and anything else in between.
This a million times.
Millionaire is a NPC village mod, and it's been in development for months. Getting better as time goes.
A few other mods change how generation was handled, and that works well.
Remember hand held torches are "Hard to code"? Yeah, theres a mod for that.
If these mod makers have lives, why does it take them half the time to do something that isnt even their jobs?
There really is NO excuse to why the development is a snails pace, other than to not working on it long enough.

I was just about to facepalm when I saw that this was another "rage" thread. But, you don't completely go into rage mode, based on your last paragraph, so I will at least post something here.
Notch has worked quite hard. All the work we see is what is actually visible in the game (ie villages, biomes, etc.) Plenty of other work has to be done behind the scenes, which is hardly ever evident. I'm no programmer, but I know it can't be easy to program an AI of any kind. It's always going to have some quirks to it.
I'm also curious as to what developer you compare Notch to. Developers are, in a way, artists. Some get inspiration all the time, others have to look for it. Notch has his own tempo he's gotten into. Might not be the pace you would like, but anything different, and we might not get the quality of stuff we do get. That quality is perfectly up to debate. I do know however, that I am perfectly fine with development.

It's not necessarily the development speed I'm concerned about. It's the half-assing of everything. If I had to wait 2 months for rich features and additions to the game, I'd be fine. But we're forgetting the fact that he basically took the code from zombies and added teleportation + getting angry at you for looking at them. The fact that endermen make the same noise as zombies ruins a lot of the creepiness. If anything they should softly whisper in some arcane language, but that's just my opinion.

in the meantime smp is literally unplayable

That is not even remotely the same.

they really need to outsource some of the coding work though, what are they doing with the millions of dollars from making this game? >.<
