I see it this way, the hunger bar is a great addition to Minecraft, also for fighting mobs and for "normal" pvp on a random server (i.e. killing only one guy, etc.). But I understand why it could be troublesome for a pvp only server.
You have to admit though that these Quake like fights weren't intented for Minecraft, they just happened, like "Spleef". So it's only reasonable that Notch won't bother if it breaks this sort of playstyle, maybe he should though, I don't know.
@ All the people saying PVP is Dumb, not part of the game, Etc.

In my Opinion, Creative server is gay, all you do is build dumb **** that is relatively useless.
Survival is fun the first few days, and then gets boring. Killing mobs and building houses! Yay! Sounds like SO MUCH fun.
And all these people saying we'd 'spam food'
Or we'd use 'Golden Apples'
Are you stupid or something? We don't get the items for free. We build a base, we have to get everything we use ON OUR OWN. Do you really think we'd bring 64 Mushroom Stews to a fight? If you do, your ****ing mental.
You have to perserve your food.
And to all my Survival fans out there, THATS WHAT HARDCORE PVP IS. The only difference is you fight players, and griefing is allowed. Hide your base underground far, and you won't be found.
Its not affecting you if Notch makes it on/off, So stop flaming this.
You can say that about EVERY rule in a game. Look around and see how many games have their core rules toggleable... Just use a mod, this game is about surviving with your own tools and resources and then crafting and building with them. This isn't a PvP action game so the default, vanilla version will of course have hunger...
The way I see it, the whole "skills" thing is just leading to an argument, but there's no doubt that it's more fun to play PvP without hunger than it is to play with hunger and I think that's the point that the OP is trying to get across. There's no reason to be flaming/bashing/whatever'ing him because he thinks that hunger should be toggleable. It won't hurt you in any way if it does have a toggle. You like hunger? Toggle it on. If you're in a situation like the OP or you simply think the hunger system is stupid (like me), toggle it off..

This game is a survival game, either you like it or not. Therefore, it's rules will compliment survival. You can use whatever mod to play pvp, since the game isn't built for that, there is no reason to add a toggle to it and have two different rulesets and therefore code sets in the game

The server owner isn't gay like Most of you who run it off your computer trying to pull a big server, he runs it off a local host, and Pays them every month.

There's no reason for someone to not be allowed to turn off/on hunger. There's literally no counter-argument to me that makes sense. This entire argument is absurd. It's like saying there should be no creative-mode because it's not part of the game.

Hunger regerated your healthj Every 5 seconds, and heals 1/2 a Heart. Do you think that'll benefit you at all in a Sword to Sword combat? If your saying what we have to do now is run away from eachother after every hit and wait 15 seconds to gain 1 1/2 hearts, then Id rather them just code a plugin to remove it.
So its not skill, its running. Ruining the fun of PvP.

Heck,this is less skilled then RuneScape PVP. If some one is running away from you just run after them and charge a bow.In the new PvP you have to considering eating time, critical hits, knock back and hit 'n run tactics. The old PvP was horrible, and you're horrible at the new PvP. Deal with it.

Last time I checked, the World didn't have Walking Zombies and Skeletons that shot arrows, It didn't have Giant Slimes that hopped around trying to kill you, You couldn't break a tree into a block by hitting it, It had floating materials in the sky, You could escape lava, You could craft tools without having to forge them together.
I could go on forever.
And to those saying it requires no skill, 99.9% of you have never PVPed.
If you PVPed in 1.7 for a day, then in 1.8 for a day, you'd understand where im coming from.
You don't decide how you swing your sword. You simply click, without any guidance of the motion except for the crosshair. Which part of the body you hit doesn't matter, and you can't accurately hit the body part you want. The only skill this game's pvp might possibly have is legworking, how you can avoid your opponents attacks by running and jumping around.
So please, stop crying about how this takes away the "skill" aspect of pvp. Just be brave little boys and say "i don't want to die in a regular length battle"

You basically want casual pvp, cause hardcore pvp needs hardcore rules, like you die in a normal way. It's a bit like call of duty vs. caounter strike. In call of duty, you can wait 3 seconds and be totally healed. In CS, you can't be healed by simply waiting. You have to fight without ever being hit. That is what skill is about.

I have played a lot PvP before this,
And i will totally start playing more after 1.8!
Finally the game really gets some real tactics and strategy to the game.
My server wars do now really become awesome^2!
