Hahahahaha Seriously? That PvP video is hilarious. It's like a game of mobile rock'em sock'em robots. The ability to block now by itself has made the strategy of pvp increase by 200%.
*speed walks towards someone swinging my sword*
*gets chopped in the face a few times but grabs a slab of beef and swallows it in one gulp*
Too much unnessary things would need to be done to make this toggable. All food would need to unstack, and sprinting would need to be removed, or work off of health.
Honestly, I have a feeling Jeb and Notch will make potion crafting. to produce healing potions, dmg potions, speed potions... etc. and then we can have both :biggrin.gif:
Just wait till they rebalance it. Or, use some skillful kiting that sprinting introduced. Critical hits? Bow charges? Lots of new things that make PvP 'skillful'.
I had no idea pvp was a big thing.. for.. minecraft.. Imean really? there are tons and tons of games with better pvp gameplay out there.
Even though I mainly play on PvP servers, I have to agree. Running around with 7 bowls of soup, spamming their use in battle was more of a chore than anything. The fun part of PvP is not the fighting itself, but the looting and trap setting. Sure, direct PvP can be very fun at times, but the 1.7.3 system is so imbalanced that it usually isn't. If you fought in the standard way of running in and attacking with a sword, it mainly came down to who had the lowest latency.
You know, just to make a point here, but it's odd how the few PvPers here seem to be incapable of grasping the basics of the English language (and that's coming from someone who doesn't have English as his native language) in addition to being overly aggressive homophobics.
Don't like a new element of the core gameplay? Mod it in. Or is your mind so dull from spam-clicking that you can't work out how to do this?
If the PvPers weren't so utterly whiny and offensive I might be more sympathetic towards their plight, but with Neko being the only one in favour of a toggle who seems to have some sense in him, I still think having uniformity in vanilla is better than a toggle. Want a different experience? Mod it.
And before any PvPer asks, I'm not a Creative f*g, I'm a Survival f*g who might do some PvP in 1.8 if there are servers that aren't filled with people averse to spelling and tactics :tongue.gif:
Kind regards,
Kano.
Wlcoeme to teh itnenerent wehre we splel fnuny, are you new to the internet or what? people type bad to be quick, only lonely nerds harp on others grammar, its sad really, but what can I say its still fresh in your mind since you just learned it yesterday.
OH **** GUYS! There's an internet argument going on!
Jeez. This thread is so full of whining children, i think i'd rather go babysitting again, or something. Seriously.
We've got one group of people who can't form a complete sentence to save their lives.
Then we toss in a shitty video featuring dubstep to try and make pvp look "Awesome", and "Skillful", when all i see is people jumping around like idiots, mass clicking, and speed eating, thinking they know anything about PvP.
You guys want PvP, go find a PvP game.
As i see it, there are two different ways to play minecraft.
Creative.
Survival.
In creative, you make things, using creativity, and imagination.
In survival, you do what you need to, to survive.
If this involves donning full diamond armor, and running out to a giant open area with 7+ bowls of soup, then you've never been through Wilderness training in the military.
Pre 1.8 PvP: Put on armor, make soup, grab sword. Go out, kill others in a giant field, and take their items, eating soup so you don't die.
PvP Now: Build traps, make a plan, stalk your enemy, surprise attack, run away to heal.
I can tell you now, when i went through Hell Week in the Seals, i don't remember learning anything about soup. I do however remember learning that it's better to get away and heal, then to wildly attack till your dead.
As i see it, the hunger bar is a great addition, and should remain as it is.
Now, before Hunger was introduced, you took 3 hits from a D sword in Armour, you'd be on the verge of death. You eat a Soup and continue fighting. With Hunger, it completly ruins PVP. 3-4 hits and its over. No skill involved. I think it needs to have the option to disable so that PvP Servers arent completly ruined.
wrong, with the way combat works now its more about skill and strategy, Don't let yourself get hit 4 times in a row block the attack or knock them back and with criting while descending from a jump even if your being an idiot and fighting head on with no thought involed you can win with crits.
I'm sure lot's of other people said this, but there's blocking *FOR A REASON*.
I'm not too sure if it works in PvP, only' played singleplayer, but still! It's supposed to make it more of a tactical or something like such. Use it well.
[READ FIRST: AT ALL YOU FLAMERS, HOW IS HUNGER BEING TOGGABLE HURTING YOU? IF YOU LIKE HUNGER, TURN IT ON, IF NO TURN IT OFF. YOUR FLAMING OVER IT BEING MORE REALISTIC AND SKILLFUL, MINECRAFT IS A GAME, AND IF YOU THINK RUNNING AWAY WHILE HEALING 1/2 A HEART A SECOND IS SKILLFUL, YOU FAIL, BRAH]
BRRAP BRRAP LISTEN HERE DAWG. YER SO COOL WITH YER INSTAHEA-
I can't do it with a straight face. I said it once, i'll say it again, but this time... I'm calling you a moron. Why? So dead set on believing that instantly gobbling down soup or porkchops is OH SO SKILLFUL OMFG MONTAGE!
No, let me tell you WHY that's ********. :laugh.gif:
First of all, if all I had to do to heal was sit there... Swing, dodge, swing, dodge, swing, dodge... Yeah. What is this, CoD? Go through the motions with porkchops and You Win! No, that's ******** because if all I have to do to win is use 4-5 heart instant heals, I win. Big god damn whoop. SO EXCITING, LOLS! (Btw there's a block feature in Minecraft now. Learn to use it in 1.8 official patch. Trust me.)
Second of all, it's not ALWAYS fleeing. It CAN (And i'm not making this up!) be considered tactical retreat. The fact that now I can't rely on food, but how fast I can move on my feet and tackle someone or get a downward slash goes to show MORE skill than dodge, sidestep, swing, repeat. That video you linked? Yawnfest. Learn that PvP in Minecrack isn't turn-based! (Figuratively speaking. It's boring! Well, was.)
Third of all, the fact you're yelling at us in your first post edit shows that you're upset with the change made to healing. Deal with it, like the rest of us are. There are going to be mods that CHANGE that to be original, if you're that tasteless.
While I do love the hunger system immensely; there still is problems when you find yourself in a tight spot. You need more health, but you can't eat, you have to sit and wait to regenerate when you don't have the luxury to do so.
I would like to see a quick fix, like the use of cloth, for bandages or something along those lines. Perhaps as a way to quicken the healing process.

I am confused really, Terraria took the exact same approach as minecraft and limited it so healing items had a 1 minute cool down. The reason the developer gave matches Minecraft's reason rather well. They stated that they wanted it to be a battle of skill, don't get hit, don't be reckless. Battles use to be just the tedious chore of making sure you have lots of supplies before you went into battle, now it requires that you actually avoid the attacks rather than rely on those supplies.
This shouldn't even be a discussion. Optional means everyone wins. Like Hunger? Turn it on in your server. Don't like hunger? Turn it off in your server. What's so hard to understand about that?
Minecraft is not Terraria. Minecraft is the "play it your way" game. Whether or not notch changes it, you can be I'll be first in line for the inevitable mod that does this.
*speed walks towards someone swinging my sword*
*gets chopped in the face a few times but grabs a slab of beef and swallows it in one gulp*
mad skills... hahahaha
this new system is an obvious improvement.
In other words, learn to block.
Honestly, I have a feeling Jeb and Notch will make potion crafting. to produce healing potions, dmg potions, speed potions... etc. and then we can have both :biggrin.gif:
If we did this for every feature some niche group in Minecraft hated, we're talking about thousands of hours of code.
Disruptively Insubordinate, Fails to Attend to Duty

But with the hunger bar the fight is 100% about the FIGHT. The old way it's a food-management mini-game.
I'm not too sure if it works in PvP, only' played singleplayer, but still! It's supposed to make it more of a tactical or something like such. Use it well.

This is Officer Hotpants... Signing out.
This always makes me laugh.
"You only won because of items! You have no skill!"
Well, you lost because you didn't know how to react to items dipshit. They're part of the game, so use them >.<
(This isn't a jab at you RMF2, just a general lol at people who harp on about no items)
I would like to see a quick fix, like the use of cloth, for bandages or something along those lines. Perhaps as a way to quicken the healing process.

It's an ON/OFF type of deal.
If you want it on, leave it the **** on.
If you want it off, turn it the **** off.
End of epicocity.
