the toggle fog key has been put back in.this just goes to show mojang is smarter than most people give them credit for. they made a mistake and then realized it and quickly fixed if like i said this was probably just a mistake by the team because they didnt realize how important the key was to so many players. i knew they wouldnt keep a change that makes the game unplayable for so many of their loyal players. good work notch and jeb. i can now say i 100% love the 1.8 update and all its changes.
and if you are worried about accidently hitting the key you can go to the menu and change it to something other than f. thats no reason for the key to be removed completly
I think he removed it to prevent people from spamming F to find lights (Like dungeons and spawners and such)
thats the only semivalid reason for it. but i dont think its that large of a problem and even if it is there has to be a way of fixing that without ruining the game for a large portion of the minecraft community. idk what that way is but im sure someone could think of something if that really is the reason for its removal
I deffinately agree with this.
I love Minecraft to death. I even stopped playing Xbox Live mainly because of how much fun I find Minecraft compared to other games.
However, taking out the ability for those of us who have computers that can't handle Minecraft perfectly is a bad mistake, now this is in my honest opinion, I wont say it "might" or it "probably will" towards how annoying it would get using the menu to toggle the render distance because knowing how often I have to toggle I would be stopping every 1 to 3 minutes.
Now, I agree with all of what the OP has stated, getting a new computer just for Minecraft is deffinately not worth it for me, I'm a student I barely have enough money as is, let alone enough for a new computer!
So, if anyone in the forums sees this and knows Notch at least semi-well, please direct him to this! And Notch, if you do end up reading this I can safely say a TON of fans will be happy if the ability to toggle the render distance by using a button instead of the menu stays!
They should bring it back or change it to something like Page Up and Page Down to increase or lower the fog
that makes sense! its out of the way so people wont accidently hit it and it can reduce lag. i would say just keep it with one key tho. jsut becuase then you just hit it 4 times and ur back where u wanna be with no lag. but i just want the key back somehow
Although I personally don't need to use the fog toggle myself, most of the users on my server use it and have mentioned that its too laggy to play without it. So I would like the fog key to remain in the game.
ruining the game for a large portion of the minecraft community.
o.o you think removing the fog key is ruining the game for a large portion of the Minecraft community?
You are wrong, sir.
You could just press ESC in-game to change your fog distance, it's no problem for me.
It's like eating cereal with a fork, you could just go get a spoon, but you're too lazy.

see the op... you sir should try having to play on short render distance with fast graphics pause your game every 2 minutes and open the video settings. you try doing that for a few days and tell me how lazy we are for not wanting to do that. obviously you dont have the problem with lagging like a lot of people. if you did you would be begging for the toggle fog key back
see the op... if we just had to change the fog once it wouldnt be bad but its once every 2 minutes. you do the thing i suggested with the timer in the op and see how long before you want the timer to go away
I'm not trying to be stupid or anything, and I know you mentioned this in your OP, but why not just go to the menu, set the fog to a workable level, and leave it there? I don't understand why you have to keep toggling it over and over? I thought it stays at a certain distance until you change it yourself?
Please help me understand this.

ok thank you for expressing your opinion without being a complete jerk +1 because we need more people like this. the reason is that some people would have to play fast graphics with a tiny render distance. for me this works and it doesnt lag. but you cant see anything. you cant see anything about your surroundings and its easy to get lost. you cant see the clouds or sun/moon to find directions or even tell what time it is. so the reason i would toggle it was to see far enough to effectivly play the game. and some people are even worse than me with lag. for some people i know they have it set to tiny render distance fast graphics and everything they can do and it still lags. hitting f a few times every once in awhile would fix this but now they have to use the menu every minute or 2 and its absolutly awful. fir some people its completely unplayable, thats why the key is nessescary. hope that clears things up
Didn't want to throw it out like this but If you got to switch the fog every two minutes, then its not the game's fault really. Its more of the machine you are using... :/
And computers nowadays, even laptops go around for a good price maybe 300 or less (Euros) and you get to run Minecraft or other games smoothly...
But then again... there might be people with Economic Troubles but requirements of games shift. Minecraft is in Beta still, always has been, requirements can switch all the time.. :/
Don't really know what else to say really
i just dont think its good for a game development company to make their most popular game unplayable for a large number of the people who made it popular in the first place. and as far as the machine we are using. they are computers that were able to run minecraft fine up until 1.8 and i dont see why they would change that. my computer is only 3 years old and its in great condition. i can play any other game ive tried with no problems. maybe you have a better computer than most people. if so thats great and im happy for you but i dont see hoe anyone could be against a key that you dont even need to use that would make the game enjoyable for a large number of people. just because something doesnt negatively affect you doesnt mean its not terrible for someone else

yes but it has been confirmed the key will be removed in the full release as well
