Except that people with low FPS don't effect you at all. A lagging player would, but unfortunately for your argument having low FPS doesnt make you lag. It makes it harder to aim, time movements correctly, and makes the game much less aethetically pleasing for the person lagging. No one else. Unless you are doing some kind of out-of-this-world marathon and are depending on the other guy to jump these things asap, grab a flag... forget it. You should understand this by now.
Meanwhile, trolls complaining about it reduce the quality of the forums for everyone.
Oh, and my toaster doesn't cost half a thousand dollars.
I have a laptop from last year and yet i lag like a ***** without the F key being there to quick fix the situation when it happens :/
Lets spam notchs twitter with a big "F" to get it back and the 3rd person front facing camera view just because its more fun to take pics with it
Totes. This is why I didn't touch PC gaming for a long time.
No worries though, these guys are obvious trolls.
Don't worry OP, I'd server with you anytime :wink.gif:
Oh god more horrendous misuse of the term troll. "Get a new computer" is a legitimate solution to performance issues, although upgrading is a more budget friendly suggestion. Honestly you cannot expect, and have no justification for complaining about not being able to run new software on outdated hardware. "Trolling" is an attempt to get a strong reaction through inflammatory and derailing posts, "get a new computer" may be brutally honest but often it is a solution to a lot of problems.
And so sayeth the community of Minecraft,
those who do not assimilate shall get thee shaft;
Why shant thy paupers get a great game?
why shant thy poor be gifted with its fame?
why shant thee giveth onto them a crutch,
if their Clockworks are neglectable as such?
NAY! the nobles shall say,
the pauper must pay,
what he should haveth free.

Except I wasn't asking for a solution. I was complaining because Notch removed the solution needlessly.
I really don't understand why people are throwing such a big fit over Notch adding this.
If you have a good computer that's able to run Minecraft then having a fog toggle won't affect you at all. So why are you pissing and moaning over him returning the feature? The only difference it makes is to make it more convenient for people with low-end computer to play, that is not a bad thing.
FPS lag is not the same as connection lag. When I lag, it's only on my end since it's a framerate dip, not anything to do with my connection.
I completely agree. And if Notch was adding something, like content, that rised the system requirements, I'd have no choice but to accept it. However, removing an existing function that helped lower end PCs run the game better isn't exactly the same. Especially when he does this for no obvious reason.
You misinterpreted what I was trying to get across. Playing with a person with a nonexistant framerate is frustrating, epecially when it takes them two fog toggles and 30 seconds to move 10 blocks and it's a problem for them as well.
I used to have a shitty computer as well, where I'd have to play on Tiny Fast. I went out and bought a computer, and now I play on Far Fancy. I don't even know how I even ENJOYED MC back then, the lag was just too terrible. Anyways, you should seriously question this: Is is worth all the lag and general unplayableness, where you have to toggle fog every 10 seconds, and reload the world every 10 minutes, and when you can barely, if at all, play multiplayer?
Wow, some of the people in this thread are jackasses.
I believe the reason Notch decided to remove that key was because it was close to the "D" key and would often be hit accidentally by a person just trying to strafe right. This then leaves the question of why it was not just moved or made bindable. I came to the conclusion that it was due to it being a video option and having no place on the keyboard for the average player, and that it would not effect the game much if removed altogether. I'm sure Notch plays on a computer capable of running Minecraft flawlessly, and it didn't occur to him that some people use the fog key to play more smoothly.
As such, I don't think Notch should be blamed for removing the key, but he should definitely add it back in some way since this seems to affect a lot of people.
All of the elitists here need to kindly **** off. There's no reason why this couldn't be added back in some form if a lot of players see it as an issue.

No one lags that much. We are not talking about nonexistant framerate; if someone had that low of FPS, MC would crash after a few minutes.
We are talking about low (5-20 FPS) framerate. Stuttering. Choppiness. That doesn't effect you at all. Besides; why do you care if notch re-adds a feature that doesn't effect you?

Fog toggle is an instant fix. It doesn't take 30 seconds. Takes less than a second. I've played with people with every kind of PC you can think of, from low-end like me (and worse) to the best of the best gaming rig. Not one has ever mentioned anything of the kind. And keep in mind, FPS lag doesn't kill the game entirely. You can still move around and aim. It's just much more difficult.
Now it will take 30 seconds, since you need to go into the menu each time.
Except I wasn't asking for a solution. I was complaining because Notch removed the solution needlessly.
I was not putting that solution forward, I was refuting the "person suggests something I don't like or is critical of something I like=troll/hater logic" that spews from every corner of the internet. I had previously stated my support for bringing the feature back in a different form.

It's completely worth it. The toggle fog key keeps my framerate in check, certainly high enough for me to play comfortably. I have a ton of time logged in Minecraft and it's never been an issue until now.
The fog toggle really helped to fix my lag. I'm on a laptop. I cannot and will not buy a new computer to play Minecraft. I do not understand why this had to be removed in the first place. Add the removal of the fog toggle to the drops in FPS many people are already experiencing in the pre-release...I don't know if I'll be able to use 1.8 at all. I'll have to rely on mods to make the game playable.
This really did **** me off when it happened. And don't say, "Get a better comp trolololol", Because my comp has 2 gig's of ram, good enough to run the game on max settings in ssp. However, whenever I go online, say, to my friends server, and we get random lag spikes from loading chunks running through the internet, that makes it take 30 seconds to a minute and a half (record) to get through the menus to the screen to change the fog (my friend doesn't have the best comp on his end either. Also: ITS A 20 DOLLAR GAME. WHO THE HELL BUYS A 1500 DOLLAR ALIENWARE LAPTOP TO RUN A GAME THAT COSTS LESS THEN THE ELECTRICITY TO RUN THE DAMN THING. People on this forum really need to get it in their heads that there is no magical nerd fairy crapping out computer parts that anyone can wish into existance.
Thus ends my personal troll. I was just pissed of all the people that said to get a better computer. We all paid good money for this game. At the point where we the customers no longer have a say in the features added in the game is the day we should leave Mojang behind. This is almost the same as the old argument about toggleable NPC Villages. What possibe purpose could Mojang have from REMOVING a feature from the game? It is completely impractical and threads like this are good, getting the word out that we, the people who put down the money, disagree.
Of course, maybe this was all due to some technical glitch with the new lighting or something, and it wasn't even a purposeful decision. In that case, I take all above back. After all, the reason we can complain about this at all is because Mojang was kind enough to release this prerelease to us all in the first place. So who knows.
We're not lazy people, it just gets annoying to go and pause the game everytime MC lags. Also some people here just want to enjoy the game and having a simple short-cut key is very handy.
Seriously is it so hard to press 3 buttons for your precious frame rates?
You are acting like kings and princesses here so please for the sake of sanity just deal with it like everyone else.
Acting like a king and/or princess? Are you joking? The toggle fog key was a perfectly valid (and instant) solution to framerate dips on low-end computers. He removed it for no reason. I am not pleased.
How is this in any way unreasonable?
