This really did **** me off when it happened. And don't say, "Get a better comp trolololol", Because my comp has 2 gig's of ram, good enough to run the game on max settings in ssp. However, whenever I go online, say, to my friends server, and we get random lag spikes from loading chunks running through the internet, that makes it take 30 seconds to a minute and a half (record) to get through the menus to the screen to change the fog (my friend doesn't have the best comp on his end either. Also: ITS A 20 DOLLAR GAME. WHO THE HELL BUYS A 1500 DOLLAR ALIENWARE LAPTOP TO RUN A GAME THAT COSTS LESS THEN THE ELECTRICITY TO RUN THE DAMN THING. People on this forum really need to get it in their heads that there is no magical nerd fairy crapping out computer parts that anyone can wish into existance.
Thus ends my personal troll. I was just pissed of all the people that said to get a better computer. We all paid good money for this game. At the point where we the customers no longer have a say in the features added in the game is the day we should leave Mojang behind. This is almost the same as the old argument about toggleable NPC Villages. What possibe purpose could Mojang have from REMOVING a feature from the game? It is completely impractical and threads like this are good, getting the word out that we, the people who put down the money, disagree.
Of course, maybe this was all due to some technical glitch with the new lighting or something, and it wasn't even a purposeful decision. In that case, I take all above back. After all, the reason we can complain about this at all is because Mojang was kind enough to release this prerelease to us all in the first place. So who knows.

From your perspective this may seem a bit trollish but, get a better server?
For ****'s sake, learn to read. These people need to press this key EVERY FEW SECONDS for them to play. Could you imagine going into the video options menu EVERY FEW SECONDS to toggle the render distance?

Moving aside from the current argument for a moment, can we all be sure that Mojang did this for no reason or the possibility that the feature simply wasn't included in the pre-release build?
Seriously is it so hard to press 3 buttons for your precious frame rates?
You are acting like kings and princesses here so please for the sake of sanity just deal with it like everyone else.
precious frame rates? I don't think you would like it if you had 6-10 fps average and had to toggle the framerate every 5-10 seconds. Now think about that, going to the video options menu every 5-10 seconds... to me that sounds like you're in the video options menu more than you are playing the game. :dry.gif:

I just tried it out, took about one second to do. Could do it faster with some practice, but seriously if you have to press f every few seconds then your computer just can't handle minecraft. Not saying you need a new one, just putting it out there.

Lol. Its not really the server. It works well most of the time, but when a lot happens it really slows down. Like, say, the mobs in an abandoned mineshaft (which are really creepy, by the way). And we shouldn't have to upgrade to cater to a game that really doesn't bring new tech to the table. I get games like Crysis, but not this. I know I should stay away from this thread to avoid becoming a troll myself, but this F key thing really annoyed me. Ill stop posting now :smile.gif:
"I want to call Nintendo and complain about how I really don't like how their Wii games won't play on my Super Nintendo."
If I were a game developer, I wouldn't want to know that players had to constantly distract themselves from the game to spam a key binding to improve playability. This may lead to me developing an inferior game; having lost my ability to focus on immersing my player in an experience. Which is why I would develop an options section, with video settings.
It's very interesting that you absolutely have to be able to change the level of fog with a key, while nobody is in support of binding advanced opengl, smooth lighting, the graphics detail, or any other settings to a key. I must conclude that you specifically want a fog key only because it was in the last version, not because it is what you need.

Some people in this economy just don't have enough money to afford a new computer, and for people like me when toggling fog make the fps go higher we will use it. really before no one had any problem with the fog toggle key, and it's most likly not too hard to code, so we would like it have it back.
Also when you said "seriously if you have to press f every few seconds then your computer just can't handle minecraft" some people like me used our hard earned money on this game, and we want our moneys worth for it.

That's ridiculous. Maybe it doesn't take long, but you're pulling up the menu screen and interrupting the game every time you do that. The fact is that before this hotkey was removed, these people could play comfortably, and now it has been removed with little reason and they no longer can. You can't infallibly defend it staying removed.
And, just to clarify, I am not forced to use the F key, I just understand what this guy (OP) is saying.

Most people who are lagging are playing on the lowest settings, and still need to change their render distance every few seconds to make the game playable.
Bindings for other video settings wouldn't be that much of a help there.
I am still confused as to how constantly spamming the F key makes for a fun gaming experience. My computer isn't that great but it runs minecraft just fine on Fancy, with normal view distance. Keep a fps range of 40 to 50 The only adjustment I've made is that I manually allotted more of my measly two gigs of ram to minecraft in Java.

I've been lurking this thread for a while and frankly I am disgusted. The Minecraft community is worse than any other gaming community I have ever been a part of, even Call of Duty.
Honestly the Team Fortress 2 community is worse than Minecraft by a longshot. Which is then surpassed by the fanbases of numerous other games.
Sometimes the game would lag so much, that even navigating to the video settings menu would take a while. Having a toggle fog key can help set the video settings to a level PCs can handle without interrupting the game.
@superspud94 The RuneScape community is the only equal.
Its funny how the people with 700-1000$ computers act like this is no big deal to them without thinking about the people that get 20+lower fps. F key is a great key, if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all

Nexon mostly comes to mind.
I'd say both communities are utter trash, but I then remember all the modding that goes on in MC. Modding is usually a sign of a flourishing community, or it could just be that this game is very minimal to begin with and mods are necessary to enjoy it at all.
I think the mean age in MC is lower than that of TF2 though. Seems like mostly 12-16 year olds in this game.
