WE'VE WAITED OVER 2 MONTHS! HOW MANY BUGS COULD IT HAVE?! IM PRETTY SURE THAT IS A LOT OF FEATURES! THE DEVELOPERS DON'T READ THESE 24/7. I'm sorry, but I think we've waited long enough. They have already confirmed many features that have been moved to 1.9 anyway.
Thank you! No body understands this one true fact: The MC community is greedy. We yell at Mojang for not releasing stuff fast enough, then when they do release something, we yell at him for it being too buggy! Sure, I would be fine with fast releases, although quality is better than quantity. If it takes a month loner to get stuff out, but the stuff is great, fine with me!
Correction: No one yells at Mojang. They just scream "I WANT 1.8!!!!"
I for one think its better to wait and take there time
1.more time to play the epic game notch created
2.the more time spent making it means that we can enjoy all of the hard work that was jam packed into it
3. It is good to practice patients so that you dont stress yourself out and so you can concentrate on school(just until it comes out )

79 features.

It's not that I hate you, it's just that, if you were on fire and I had water... I would drink it
I will list a few reasons on why these delays are Good.
1. Would you have it released early and have a buggy version? I wouldnt!
I'd rather have it released on-time and tested. (God forbid they actually PLAY the freaking updated game for 10 minutes before releasing it. There were soooo many bugs the last few releases. I know 'we're the beta testers', and all that, but there are certain obvious game-breaking bugs that should have been fixed before it was released to us. (Remember "Dropped tools, once picked up, disappear after first use.", or "right clicking on a sheep empty-handed causing game to crash"???))
2. If it comes out too early there will be less features.
Or... Notch could hire a couple more programmers. He sold almost 4,000,000 copies of Minecraft. At the 9.99 Euro Alpha price (Beta price 14.95), that's about 40,000,000 Euros, or over 40 Million dollars!!! He can afford an extra programmer or two. Or three. Or four. Or ten.
3. If you keep complaining, it will make the developers feel like they have to hurry.
Or maybe it'll guilt Notch into taking fewer vacations, And actually doing his job.
Edit: 1.8 should probably come out shortly after 9/8/11. But not the next day or on friday.
What they should do is figure out how long it would take to add everything they want to add, test it, fix the obvious bugs, then re-test. Multiply by 1.5. Once they calculate that, that becomes the release date. Now, they have a little extra time in case they run into difficulties. If they don't run into difficulties, they have the extra time to add extra features (imagine that- a MC release with MORE features than they promised, instead of LESS) AND/OR they can release "early" (happily surprising everyone!), instead of pushing back the date again and again (pissing everyone off).
And speaking of features:
There are other threads floating around regarding 1.8, including at least one that points out that every 'new' feature in 1.8 has already been done by modders. If modders can do it so easily/quickly, why can't Mojang?? A perfect example is pistons. The piston mod was out there, working well, when Notch decided to add pistons. Did he take the existing piston mod code and tweak it a little, change the graphics and call it a day? No, of course not- he had to have the code completely re-written, and in doing so took away the best feature of pistons- the ability to 'throw' sand/gravel/people.
Another example- The Mo'Creatures mod has, what?- about 2 dozen new creatures? In the same time, notch has given us... wolves and squid. Oh, and Endermen, whenever 1.8 comes out.
Yet another example- Minecarts Mark II was/is a mod that added powered rails, stopper blocks, and minecart detecting blocks. When Notch decided to add powered rails, did he even LOOK at Minecarts MK2? Nope- he did it his own half-assed way. Instead of boosters that can start carts from a dead stop, we got booster rails that require the carts to be already moving (or to have a block behind them, not very useful for tracks that continue straight through). Instead of stopper blocks that will, well, stop a cart, no matter it's speed, we get unpowered booster rails that don't
stop carts traveling fast, only slow them down some. Instead of separate blocks to detect empty/full carts, we get the Detector rail, made with a stone plate (stone pressure plates detect players/mobs, but not items), that detects ALL carts. At the very least they should have made 2 detector rails, one crafted with a wooden plate (detects all carts), one with stone (detects loaded carts only).
And the examples continue. Notch wants to do things 'his way', which is fine for a small indie game, but not so fine for a $40,000,000+ cash cow. If he had hired 10 programmers a year ago at $100,000/year, he'd only have $39,000,000 left now, but Minecraft would be.... amazing. The Adventure Update would have come out in February. Adventure Mode, April. By June he'd have Realistic Mode and Zombie Apocalypse Mode done. August would be 'new content month', when he adds user-requested content. And right now, we'd be eagerly awaiting the release of Minecraft in C# (or C++, Or whatever other non-Java programming language), meaning a huge decrease in memory and processing power being needed to run the game. Thus, meaning World Height could be increased by a factor of 2, 3, even 4. Water could be allowed to run 8, 9, maybe even 10 blocks!!!
... or so my fantasy goes.
Don't get me wrong- I love Minecraft. I bought it for my whole family. I play it every day (well, not the last month or so). It just really frustrates me to see how... poorly (in my opinion)... it is being developed.

Intelligence is not one and the same with knowledge.
Games that takes their time to make it work good usually results something good... or better. Sure a lot of features sounds very interesting and the time they're putting into really makes us want to try them out so bad. They have their reason to keep working on this so I think it's a good thing they haven't released it yet.

Yes, I understand that these statement weren't quote-promises-unquote. They weren't Cross-my-heart-hope-to-die-stick-a-needle-in-my-eye pinky-swears either.
But they were statements that Notch made that he did not live up to.
I'de rather not be teased. If you have a record of missing projected dates do not give dates EVER. I think we would all be better off if they didn't reveal anything until the day of release.
Anyway from now on when Jeb gives a particular date i will be hard pressed to believe him.
I tell my dog, "No whine. You'll get your cookies as soon as they are ready. I don't want to give you half-baked kibble cookies, now would I? And I think you would prefer them finished."
I find it surprisingly easy to compare this community with my dog.

why doesnt every one just let notch and mojang do there thing and just be patient. i mean your lucky you have the game now just go ride or bike or something instead and just wait.
I agree with these post. But,sadly, anyone can complain, and will complain.1.8 takes too long?COMPLAIN.1.8 released early, but with bugs,COMPLAIN.Sometimes people cannot be satisfied.
Guys... this is just my opinion. My point is, if 1.8 got released early, it will have tons of bugs in it. Then you guys will be mad more... Once 1.9 gets released, it will have a few more bugs (but the 1.8 bugs will probably be fixed) so I'd rather have less bugs and less complaining.
Actually, I would like to have it released early. They have spent so much time working on it, we deserve to get at least something. Hell, even only new mobs and terrain generation would make me happy.
