Truly, what new stuff have they added? Other than possibly the SMP server thingie, i suppose?
Well, we know notch did work on the swamp biomes, and in doing so allowed vines to be generated in survival. I don't know how much of what they added will actually result in a distinct feature, but they have definitely added a lot to the code. Notch has been working on thigns all weekened, modifying nearly a hundred class files and adding a couple of new ones. He has been poking around in the lighting code. I can't exactly tell you what they did becuase I don't work at mojang, but they are doing something.
This definitely sucks. I think they shouldn't have even set a date for release if they weren't sure they could get everything done by then. Kind of pointless to get people excited only to disappoint them lol.
They never set a release date. This should not be a surprise to anyone.
He never said "probably". He said they were "aiming for" the 8th, if I recall.
You are splitting hairs at this point, as if aiming means something different that probably. The point is this, the date was never set as an absolute hard date.
I wish they would release the Patch WITH the trailer... but you know... that'd be too normal now wouldn't it?
How is that normal? Since when does anything wait until release to launch a trailer? Movies have trailers months in advance, as do games.
"A trailer or preview is an advertisement or a commercial for a feature film that will be exhibited in the future at a cinema"
The film and cinima parts of that definition are a outdatedly specific in modern usage, but the future part is still relevant.

Point taken.
I'm probably thinking of something else... been a long day.
It's beta. We are bugtesters. There's a button that says "don't update".
No reason not to release
Yeah and then you can enjoy some as of yet unfound bugs where trying to open a treasure chest underneath another treasure chest corrupts your world. Or sprinting into cobwebs causes a crash, or other possible results of releasing untested product.
They have added a lot of stuff since PAX, in areas of the code that could be game breaking. And at PAX, the game did not receive anywhere near the stress test it will when we get our hands on it.
Then maybe the should have released the PAX version...I don't know...maybe during PAX? So it could have been stress tested?
They should just attach a note that says, "backup your favorite worlds because this might hose them" and release it already.

Hey, if you're scared of corruption don't update!
That's the fun of beta testing!
(oh and add the text "might corrupt your world" next to the "update to 1.8"-button)

And perhaps the PAX version had gameplay aspects that would have spoiled peoples perceptions of it? Perhaps there are elements of the game that were not done to their satisfaction? Demoable =/= playable.
Ha. I thought this was ammusing. But we are in beta afterall...

Self-explanatory.

While I'm not really all that upset about the potential delay, +1 for you.
