I don't want half of it to be released on the 8th and the other half to be release who knows when. The only reason he is releasing it in 2 parts is because people are too impatient for it. I think they should let Notch do what he wants with it and release it when it is 100% ready. I don't think he should only release half of it. i'll probably just not update until 1.9. I've waited a couple months already for 1.8, it's not like i can't wait one more. I am disappointed by Mojang's doing this, though, i thought this would be one update that they wouldn't half ass and release without features that it was supposed to have. Keep in mind that whatever causes NPCs/dungeon bosses to spawn in their respective homes may need to be created during terrain generation, so 1.8 strongholds/villages might stay empty on 1.9.
we are the BETA TESTERS and we are playing the beta game to test/check for bugs and glitches aswell as play it for our good, if you read on the terms and agreements whilst buying the game it clearly states this, you sir lose epic face palm for you

Betatesters dont have to pay for the game(they can even get paid for it in some cases), because they are working in the development cycle....and we are not working but playing minecraft....
Betatesters MUST report bugs and give feedback, because they WORK as betatesters....
We are playing the beta, thats why we can enjoy the game freely without having any responsability in the project....

And second, I actually think it's a good idea to release it early. The community finds the bugs so that MOJANG(not Notch) can fix them. It's Beta, after all.

OT: It's more about the size of the update, not the impatience of the beta-testers. People have always been immpatient, even with small or non-content adding updates; why would he suddenly care about whether we wanted the update now or later?
Further, bugs will happen with pretty much anything this large; would you rather take on two smaller updates and get the bugs fixed in each, or watch the forum go up in flames when the many bugs of one large update are reported excessively by anyone with a forum username?
No matter when 1.8 is released, there will be some needed fixes - it happens every time, no biggie. I'm seriously psyched to play 1.8 and the sooner the better, but I can be patient - I don't really have a choice, heh...

as for NPC villages i plan to move into one temporarily, and it's a good shelter for the first night when you cant get your house built 100% right away
