what you call "skill boosts" is called skill advancement.
how does leveling up and changing your characters setup not give you a story?
"i fought a mad war with crazy guys, there i learned a lot so my skills are now better.." no it doesnt really add to the story, my bad.
If you're going to pull this crap, I'll go ahead and make an example of how stupid you're coming off as.
Based off of your logic, minecraft has been an RPG from the start. You go down, mine, get better materials, and 'advance' your mining skills(new picks), combat capabilities(new weapons), and overall experience with confronting the situations you come across. That's all "character advancement" too, right? I can tell a story about how I got so far in my SP world. In fact, you can tell a story about ANYTHING.
Does that make it an RPG? Well, putting your flawed logic aside, no. Just because notch adds a couple orbs into the game doesn't change the fact that it's still the same, only with new stuff. Minecraft isn't making a dashing hero out of your character. It's not sending you on an epic quest with plot twists at every corner. It's survival, with some extras.

Finally someone actually knows what there talking about.
That logic is correct, MC is a RPG right now you role play as a builder don't ya? Or a survivor trying to survive right?
I like the new addition to exp if the skills are similar to what I image you get better at doing something longer. Currently MCmmo plugin is my favorite plug in ever because it uses this method.
Minecraft isn't even finished you were told that when you bought the game unlike some developers Mojang isn't taking anything away from Minecraft they are just adding more on top of it which I for one LOVE wish more would do that.
This patch is needed in order for the singleplayer experience. Building gets tedious after a while and I find no point on playing other then to mine and build. 1.8 will add alot more depth in terms of skills while also expanding what mods can do with the game.

no its not a RPG at all, because you dont play a role herpderp.. how is developing your skills and abilities not RPG related?
so with your logic morrowind is not a rpg huh? and the experience and skill systems in the whole elder scrolls series are just retarded gimmicks right? lrn2logicb4actingfaggy
Op, have you played 1.8? If you haven't, how can you tell how it feels? I think people should wait until its released before they start saying their opinions on the unreleased update.
- Skill points have NO use yet - though Notch is debating on adding six or seven 'skills' you can place points into. What these do is unknown, not even a hint from Notch yet.
Emphasis added by me.
Seriously you guys? Seriously? This is what you're arguing over? Speculation?
Stop flaming the guy for expressing his opinion. He isn't bitching or moaning, just expressing his opinion, and just because you don't agree with him doesn't make his opinion any less as important as yours. Anyway, moving on;
Personally, I really won't like the addition of hunger. It does make sense, since Minecraft is supposed to be a survival game, but it's definitely going to put some more difficulty into it. And I don't like how your health regenerates faster depending on your hunger bar; it's nice to be able to stuff your face in deadly times and it won't work near as well once the hunger comes out.
But oh well. I am looking forward to Endermen. Judging by the short looks we've gotten of them, they're pretty close to Herobrine on the creepy level. :tongue.gif: Creepers may be out a job as well.
The chargeable bows seem okay I guess, as well as sprinting, although I'm not quite sure about critical hits.
And the biomes could use some work, I suppose.
Thanks for actually defending me, I wish for once I could express my opinion without getting flammed by 100 other users.
I agree with the whole no exp thing, because if it turns out alchemy and other crap like that gets put into the game, we'll have to start calling it World of Minecraft and I really think that's a bad idea. There are enough crappy Fantasy, Middle Ages RPGs out there.
However, I think the hunger bar is a good idea. Like someone else said, it is survival mode...
Its not the endermen, nor the villages and new landscapes.
Its the exp crap. Minecraft to me doesnt fit as a RPG style game. I think the XP Meter is a bad idea. Also The hunger meter should be optional, we shouldnt be forced to play using it.
You all may have different oppinions, but I think that the XP idea is horrible.
EDIT: I forgot to mention, the critical hit thing, I think It also doesnt fit minecraft.
RPG stuff doesn't fit Minecraft, yet you are using a skin that looks like Terra from FFVI

Is this a troll topic?
Why would you think this is a troll topic just because I like final fantasy?
Final fantasy is a RPG, it fits as one.
Ive been playing minecraft since alpha 1.1 or so, and I love the simple survival, and how it mostly consists of building, in other words, it just doesnt fit as a RPG to me.
And then no one read my post, so I'll repeat myself.

Note the words, "NO use", and "debating on". EXP will have absolutely no use in 1.8. He is considering not even placing skill points into 1.9. EXP isn't a definite, would you please realize this?

Does hunger make it too hard for you then? Either get better, or lower the difficulty. :tongue.gif:
