Well I have to get going to bed...In summary if the damn hunger bar was just able to be turned on or off or if it didn't affect peaceful at all; I would be quite satisfied. I just hope Notch changes his mind about making the hunger bar a forced need.
I'll just ask on twitter for you I guess. I agree that it shouldn't affect peaceful for people who just want to mine and build.
I'm talking about there's two seperate modes. I'm waiting to see how this affects SMP, and other things.
Also another thing I hate is 1.8 will make TooManyItems useless :sad.gif:
How is replacing a mod a bad thing p:? Creative was always coming, that was a basic mode that should have been made ages ago(well classic minecraft was all creative).
What makes an update terrible is adding things that take away from the original theme of the game; like the hunger bar system. The game is named MINECRAFT after all so its been obvious the main purpose of the game is to mine stuff and to craft stuff. Things like the hunger bar just make things harder for people like me that want the satisfaction of building something cool but don't want the constant hassles of other things. A good update is stuff that adds to the current theme of Minecraft. Good updates for example are like new biomes, lighting changes, mob additions, and other stuff that leaves the Minecraft theme intact but just adds to the current experience that we know and became to love. I feel if people want to change their aspect of Minecraft, that is what mods are for.
The hunger bar is going to be optional as a part of "Adventure Mode". If you don't want to use it, you don't have to.
A good update for me? I think that giving players the chance to vote on what mods to add to the game. If Mojang added something like mo'creatures, equivelent extange, that would be to my liking
I think there are so many threads bashing 1.8 that saying it is caused by ignorance is not realistic. I find myself reading long paragraphs of people just saying what they don't like about 1.8. Your last statement about it being a sandbox game after all is kinda iffy with 1.8 coming out. I don't see the freedom of being able to do whatever you want to do if you are constrained with a new needs system.
How does 1.8 make Minecraft not a sandbox? Look at GTA. It's a sandbox, and you have more things to keep in mind in that game than in minecraft. Point is, the term sandbox game is a very very loose term, and Minecraft will fall into that category unless notch takes away the ability to mine and place blocks.
The hunger bar is going to be optional as a part of "Adventure Mode". If you don't want to use it, you don't have to.
There is no Adventure mode, only Survival and Creative. The hunger bar is absent from Creative,
and while it is retained in Survival peaceful, it won't starve you on that difficulty.

There is a new thing in 1.8 called creative if you want to build without hunger.

I don't understand wy sooooo many ppl asking 4 vanilla thingz, u have pirated teh game? No.(I hope) So wy so many vanilla, if we are talking about the same vanilla (serverz and worlds) and not the weed one...

You are wrong. There is no adventure mode, and never has been. That is a mistake that many made from the time of the first announcement.
It's the adventure update. Not adding a new mode.
It's survival and creative mode. And in survival, you get the hunger bar.
It's not optional.
But I don't understand people who complain about certain aspects of the update they do not like, because surely there will be a million mods to remove these things for them. If they don't like the hunger bar, or endermen, or whatever.. they will surely be able to remove them from their game.
What I like: the game will be closer to what I've been promised when I pre-purchased it. I was promised a Survival mode and finally I start to see it taking shape: more interesting maps, more mobs, more moving/combat options, more ways to die. I was sick and tired of playing Creative + limited resources + sss... BOOM!
What I don't like: not a single word about the "modding API" or a better integration between server and client. Those are the things limiting my SMP experience the most.
I feel that the majority of bickering is due to the large extremely massive fanbase Minecraft has spawned, everyone has their own "likes" in the game, and when Notch changes one thing to accommodate a group of people with different "likes" that impair their "likes", they will dislike it, so for example, adding hunger pleases people wanting more challenge, but makes it harder for the people who just like building to, you know, build. So, overall, you can't please one person without harming another.
The thing is, Notch and the team are adding CREATIVE MODE for those creative types. He's accommodating both types of Minecrafters, all the while improving the game in every single way possible. I personally, am excited for every single addition in 1.8. Also, if you don't like the idea of the hunger bar, imagine it as an energy bar similar to rogue-type classes in mmo's and rpg's. You use it to sprint, etc. It can HEAL you as well. Sure, it can hurt you if the bar is low, but that's only after a while of unpreparedness and ignorance. Hate to break it to you.
Instead of reply to every individual post saying "just use creative mode"; I would just like to say this: What I want is Minecraft the way it is now. I have to actually work hard to be able to get the stuff I need to build my house or whatever I want too. I am not an artistic type of person so playing just creative would be very boring to me as there would be no purpose in playing it other than to just create things. To the people saying just use mods...Well I hate mods and refuse to use them because they conflict with the game's original files and you will have the added addition of finding updates for all your mods before you update the game so your better off just not modding in the first place. I think of mods more of like cheats...I want to play the game the way it originally was meant to be played. I purchased this game and what I get now is not what I paid for. I did not pay for a game to go needs based like many other life simulation games; I have payed for a game where I have the freedom to do whatever I want and I really don't see Minecraft as being a sandbox type of game now if you have to go to extra work to obtain food to survive. I agree with the posters that enhancements are good but alterations are not. Enhancing something is to make something better that ALREADY exists, and a bad update is alterations to the game-play which I highly believe that the hunger bar is a major alteration to the game. I personally think Notch is scamming people with their money for a game which I am now receiving an entirely different game than what I paid for. If anything at all, I think Notch should have labeled the game as being in alpha stages of development as that is what kind of changes I am seeing now. You add stuff to a game in alpha and from what I have always seen, you refine stuff in beta. Again, the hunger bar is not a refinement! it is an alteration that in my opinion; greatly affects the current game-play. It would have been different if Notch had simply made the hunger bar not work on peaceful. Peaceful has always been designed for the casual player that doesn't really want to do hardcore stuff. I would definitely say that this is not a casual style of game-play to have to monitor anything during your game-play. If I put the game on peaceful, I should get a peaceful game; NOT a damn hunger bar which is forced and has to be maintained or else you will start to lose energy. Again to make it clear to everyone, the hunger is FORCED and it is NOT optional as this has been stated by Notch himself. Minecraft may be popular now...at least until people can realize that Notch is a lousy game designer. Who would have ever decided to code a game in Java in the first place? I can think of just about any other programming language that runs faster than Java. The only reason for using Java is for programmers to take the lazy way out and not have to write as much code. Sure java runs on everything but just because everyone uses Facebook; does that mean I should use it to? If Notch was wise in his programming, he would have chose a different programming language and gave us a clear idea that the game could be altered drastically before I purchased the damn thing and now I have to put up with a game that is not what I expected. Sure there is always the option of not updating but you have to update in order to fix some of the idiotic bugs that were created in the previous versions of Minecraft. I hate it when people post saying that Notch creates high quality content when in reality, the content is poorly made; riddled with bugs that he *eventually* fixes later on in the programming cycle. On the topic of what makes a good update...I think it is a biased question because the Minecraft fan-boys will say that just about anything is a good update when the skeptical people like me that have doubts on Minecraft will say that other things that the fan-boys said are good is crap. This is always just going to be an endless argument with Minecraft fan-boys that have clearly been brain-washed by Notch into thinking that everything is a good update when in reality; there are things that can be a poor update to a game and I don't think some of the Minecraft community is yet to realize this. Maybe once Notch adds in some more stupid ideas like maybe requiring high skill levels to be a good player; more people will be hesitant on the updates and people will start to realize the truth. That is all that I have to say...this argument could go on forever with Minecraft fan-boys so I won't be replying to anymore posts on this thread. If you actually took your time to read this long thread...thanks and good luck to you in your future travels of minecraft. If you just want to flame me; I really don't care because this is a free world and you have no rights to impend on my freedom of speech. Goodbye.

Thats what creative mode is for. By the way, out of curiosity, how old are you?
What makes a good update for me is seeing the developer's talent and imagination expand with the world. Every new characteristic is a new skill or idea and I love exploring the vast world to find out whatever I can about it! I like seeing new places and challenging landscapes. There isn't anything taken away, but so many possibilities added that I get to be a part of. I may not like EVERY little thing - but if I did, than what would they have to improve on? Or maybe that something I dislike now could be made into something new in the future. I think a good update is finding that sort of harmony that excites you but is also old and familiar at times, something you can look back on fondly as you move forward and remember all the fun it brought.

Yes you can. That's what the Options menu is for.
