For instance the hunger bar. It better be optional. If not, griefers will grief like they have never done before.
Now how exactly would they use this to grief? how are they going to take all your food? If there's a hunger bar, you'll keep food on hand. How will they get it out of your inventory?
Also, it'll be a feature that makes gameplay quite repetitive and annoying. When I'm building a giant kingdom, the last thing I want to worry about is hunger.
Build a giant kingdom in creative mode. It was called SURVIVAL MODE, you are supposed to SURVIVE, not 'lol look what I built'. If you want to build a giant kingdom, do it in creative, if you want to show off that you built it 'legit' in survival, it has more meaning now, because survival is actually a handycap beyond 'peacefull mode + collecting mats'
Certain mobs will be annoying as hell to deal with, Silverfish and Enderman will destrpy all of your 90 hour creations.
And this is something new? Creepers don't ruin your 90 hour creations when you walk outside without looking? your castle isn't covered/full of spiders because you didn't do ugly spider-proofing? Lightning doesn't have that rare chance to torch your house at the end of the storm? electrified creepers... as for mobs being difficult to deal with... Spider-jockeys. ghasts. It's a game, not a box of legos. deal with it.
this has ALWAYS been the case. always. there are reasons this is done. it's to prevent piracy.
at this point, I don't see anything wrong with the update. I see people going "baw things are changing so I have to actually play a game instead of **** around". One of the things you complained about right off was griefers. Griefing was the first thing that came to mind... Lets think about that for a second.
the food meter... If griefers don't have a supply of food that they've maintained, they will not survive for long enough to do much random griefing. Okay, so they steal your food from your crops, kill all your animals and take the food, and start burning your house down... someone else on the forums said that... "stealing your crops, butchering your livestock, and burning your house down... they're barbarians... they're bandits... they're raiders... kill them" it's a game... its called role-play. and when they start bawing that 'why'd you kill me bro', you say "why'd you start messing with my **** 'bro'" and if they come back, you kill them again. and then you track them down and kill them again. and when they ask you what they have to do to make you stop, make them fix the **** they broke. Or just, I dunno, ban them.
Food aside, what would life be like for a survival/adventure mode griefer.
Oh look, an empty NPC Villiage... burn it. great, that's not griefing if noone cares... if you didn't build it, what does it matter if its gone?
Oh look, endermen i'll try and make them follow me into the other players area so that they're everywhere... oh wait, now i'm dead.
oh look, someone's building a house... what can I do to annoy them, I know, i'll remove random blocks as usual... oh... he didn't notice because the endermen might have been doing that anyway... man... I just can't do anything to **** them off anymore than the game itself already does... maybe I could just take the time to farm for TNT....
and by that point, once again. they're sneaking around your home, gathering up explosives to blow up your ****... Terrorists... kill them. kill them and ban them.
Because the griefers will have to survive in the world as well, in order to grief, it will become much harder, and undesirable to grief, and even then, if it continued, would be closer to legitimate RP... they're the villians, they're the big-bad-evil-guys... they're the boss-fights. it's called PVP.
Although there's one thing griefers will still be able to do... I actually did this once... I filled a guys house with boats. then he had to destroy all the boats to move around. he was all like "where did all these boats come from". I was tempted to do it with minecarts, but... you can't do that without minetrack anymore... SEE, the updates make griefing harder to do. If notch makes it so you can only place boats on water, you wont be able to grief this way anymore. updates are good. change is good. it makes the game more of a game and less of a pile of legos.

Don't tell me that the sky is the limit, when there are footprints on the moon.
Yeah I agree with the OP, Why should I have the ability to build freely and spawn items without modding my game. Why should I enjoy hunting down mobs which have been programmed to not destroy blocks placed by the player, and why should I be able to place blocks in a building game.
This is why I detest posting on the forums all the time... all i see are these threads where people cry about something they have no facts on. You say that you dislike ideas that have yet to be put in game, and if you really dislike the ideas that come with 1.8, no one is forcing you to update, and no one is forcing you to play Minecraft.
How will Silverfish and Endermen destroy your creations??? Endermen will only move natural blocks!

If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 90% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 10% who'd be laughing, copy this into your signature and hope it happens.
95% of teens would scream if Justin Bieber was about to jump of the top of the Empire State Building. If you are in the 5% that would finish the job and shoot him, post this on your signature.
So you like to have a one chunk big desert biome witch is just stupid?
It is not stupid, it is good to have everything to see within little bit of walking distance. Minecraft SURVIVAL mode is not about building huge tall things or spending hours on stupid nature walks. 1 chunk deserts are good, game has gone down hill since they added weather
Don't have a single problem with his update. If I want to build for the sake of building I wont have to install TMI anymore, and I'll have more to explore when I go to survival. As far as endermen go, there's no indication that they'll rip your projects to shreds. As I understand it, they are supposed to be quite rare, and from all the videos at pax I've never seen them with anything but dirt and sand in their hands. Wait till it gets here before you start trashing it, you might find that you like it.
Every update so far has been love or hate. People either love it or hate that Minecraft is different than they were used to.
Every update so far has been 'forced'. If you want new features, you must accept all the new features. This is the unfortunate side effect of you playing an unfinished game.
We've barely seen Endermen in action, there's nothing to indicate silverfish will destroy your current work. If anything, the hunger bar should make healing easier -- you can stack food now and you autoheal as long as the bar is a certain percent full. Idling won't diminish your hunger bar.
If you don't want updates 'forced' upon you, it would be my suggestion that you take up a game that is already completed. As great as cookie dough tastes, it's supposed to be made into cookies and no one is 'forcing an update' on you when that dough goes into the oven.
Guys this game is still in beta, i bet he wanted to add these things since the beginning, he just needed to create a base for the game, and now hes perfecting it by adding more gameplay elements which i think are great, but to those who DONT want creative mode, its just really another mode that allows people to create whatever they want WITHOUT mods, if you dont like it, then dont use it, but this game is still in beta, and i bet there will be a bunch more disappointments to those who dont like 1.8 in 1.9, but this will really make minecraft better.
Plus survival wasnt hard enough, now you are forced to survive :tongue.gif: which is the whole point
It is not stupid, it is good to have everything to see within little bit of walking distance. Minecraft SURVIVAL mode is not about building huge tall things or spending hours on stupid nature walks. 1 chunk deserts are good, game has gone down hill since they added weather
huge bimoes and huge oceans allow more creativity into one area, like if you wanted to build a huge ocean city, then youd have to walk around looking for a huge ocean, which is hard to find a LARGE LARGE ocean, but now you find one, it should be perfect, since it is now a biome, plus larger biomes are good becuase its a little more realistic, plus it gives a sense that your in a huge world.
You are NOT getting the entire point of minecraft, which is why you are not enjoying it.
If you dont like whre its going, then just stop, but you'll miss out on alot
there will be things you dont like in this game, buts its part of the game, you have to deal with it or find or make mods to remove them, thats the beauty of minecraft, you can play it how it is supposed to be played or make or find good mods to make it how YOU want to play it, which i think is the best part about minecraft

i completely agree with you, these guys dont know what they are saying
The hunger bar actually makes things EASIER, assuming you regularly take damage while you play. One porkchop towards the end of your hunger bar can heal up to nine and a half hearts! If that's not a buff, I don't know what is...
You'll have to find a constant source of food. The healing done isn't very fast either, so you can be fighting, get hit down to 2 hearts, and just pop a porkchop to almost fill your hearts again. If you don't eat you die. I'm also assuming that food doesn't cause as much of a change to your hunger bar as it currently does to your health... Its not a buff, it makes survival more challenging...
For instance the hunger bar. It better be optional.
jeb posted on twitter today that if you set your difficulty to peaceful in survival mode you will regenerate health faster than hunger will take it away pretty much meaning hunger wont effect you in peaceful. In multiplayer it might be a problem as you cannot change the difficulty but that is what mods and plug ins are for.

How is that a bad thing? Survival doesn't really have much surviving at the moment. With the new hunger system you have to be careful about jumping into battle.
