This thread has raised an interesting question for me: The question of which direction really is North.
I never saw any post that said North is where the sun rises previous to this thread. I always assumed it rose in the East and set in the West, but apparently Notch said on Twitter that the sun rises in the north...BUT then there's the fact that there are some inconsistencies in minecraft wiki (like this page in which, towards the bottom, they refer to the opposite direction of the setting sun as east) and also in WorldEdit East is where the sun rises (although granted just because some mod uses that as east doesn't mean that's what East actually is in the game).
Of all the posts i've seen, Nobody noticed the world appears to be slightly round. Just like the glsl shaders. Chest also face west and the fog :biggrin.gif:
Okay, what is all this talk of chests facing a certain way? Can someone please explain this to me?
I always thought that chests faced the PLAYER, regardless of compass rose directions...
There is a brown chest like object behind one of the cacti, there are 3 cacti is a row to the top right of the chest, and behind the third cacti is a chest like object.
I don't think anyone else has mention this yet. So I did a screenshot plus a comparison to chests now.
THIS, THIS! This is it, people! Why is no-one listening to this guy!?
The fog is old.
The sun rises in the North, therefore the chest is facing the correct direction.
That brown smudge is just another effing little shrub. Think about how it can rotate, plus we've already seen the new item schema, no unaccounted-for blocks.
The right-left hand discussions are dumb, there's zero physical evidence.
FOV hasn't been discussed, but it is about the only thing that it could seriously be, besides the aforementioned 3D LATCH.
If you look closely to the left of the chest, notch is holding a sand block in his left hand. You can tell this because the pixels don't match up if it was simply placed on the ground. Also, it can't be the lighting because he's already told us about it.
*sigh*
Can't you people READ?
He pressed F1, you don't see the hand and what your holding then.
It's just a block that looks odd from the angle the screenshot is taken.

this is it
I doubt this - how do we even know that it's a sunset? Might it not be a sunrise, in which case the chest is still facing to the west?
(Assuming, of course, that the Wiki is treating west as the direction in which the sun sets).
can you at least quote me?

ITS THE LATCH, COOL YOUR JETS
Or he excluded the hotbar in his picture?
I think we have a winner!
That seems like a pretty big desert if you ask me.
