FACT?! WHOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!! Good. Now that we know this is confirmed I can see the prepubescent kids whine about Minecraft like they never played a challenging game before. It totally goes with the title "SURVIVAL mode." If people don't like it, switch to peaceful or go on creative. Let the big boys play real survival. ayayayayyay
TBH whenever I see a post like that I find it amazing that you're basically encouraging Notch to **** off people. Yes, I do know what you mean when you post something like that, but if you read the post carefully you're basically just encouraging Notch to **** people off while you stand aside because it's somehow humorous to you. :tongue.gif:
EDIT: It seems that people have an obsession with deleting the posts that I've replied to :tongue.gif:
I actually like this. Manage your hunger on all difficulties. Though, I'd assume Creative won't have hunger, of course.
I also dislike not having a reliable way to heal. What I'd like is potions that heal, but make you hungrier. So evading damage becomes much more important. You could heal, but accidentally starve yourself.
Of course, a mod will be made for the hunger bar, so people will be happy.
Just because it's not optional doesn't mean it will affect you the same way in every difficulty. Health regenerates quickly on peaceful already, so the only effect of an empty hunger bar will likely be not being able to sprint. Since sprinting is a new feature, this seems fine to me.

This is an idea I could get behind. This would sell the hunger bar for me, by far.
I actually like the idea of food not being optional. It changes the game completely, and maybe some people dont like it but thats the way the company wants to take the game. And i think it really just adds more depth to it.
Well, I saw this one coming. As Mystify said, this isn't just some separate entity they slapped into the game. It's integral to a lot of systems. And, compared to a lot of hunger systems (whose only purpose is to punish you for not eating), this actually does things, and is integrated into the game. Finally, survival requires actual surviving. And, hey, we'll probably get used to it, and those that don't will mod it.

Nature should really stop catering to all these furries! I mean, do we REALLY need two kinds of elephant? Puh-leaze.
I don't really care about hunger. Food is extremely easy for me to find now and it's probably going to be even easier when 1.8 comes out. If you don't like the slow health regenerating, then just stick to branch mining and ignore the caves.
My opinion: I expected this. Notch as I've openly stated, does not know how to design games. He designs them like toys, they're fun, he wants them, he takes them and puts them into his little world. You don't exist, only he does. Simple really, whether we like it or not.
I actually disagree with this.
The fact is that everyone THINKS they know what they want, but humans are prone to self sabotage (such as using cheats in video games til it gets boring when it would have lasted twice as long if you didn't cheat). I realize you're not a designer of interactive media, but this is a common situation among people who create it: how to design the game so that people enjoy it. If you were to design a game based on the loudest yelling individuals, you would ultimately have a terrible game, and most game studios and designers know this (Bethesda is a good example, there are times to listen to criticism, and times to ignore it) Pandering to peoples wants does not automatically equate to making the game more enjoyable, as in reality people do not always know what they want, or what they want is often short term or short sighted or self defeating. Why do you think Diablo has a hardcore mode that deletes your save file when you die? It's because the designers at Blizzard know that people who want to play that way will, in that last moment of losing their hard earned character who got so far, decide instead to not delete the character, and cheapen the value of the setting in any sense, because people are weak and often will undermine a goal they set for themselves.
Sometimes forcing people to do things they don't want to do, is the best way to get them to have fun. If you don't believe this is true, then you are simply naive, because I can guarantee you've had fun at a time when you were certain you wouldn't. This is a natural part of interactive media design, and your naivety of the topic is showing.

This needs to be stickied somewhere. People need to stop crying about the update. Nothing has happened yet. Honestly... if we let them do their thing first and let them update, we could give them SOLID feedback with information to support it. Making hunger optional is just as bad as when they made villages optional (At that time. We knew nothing about villages and yet we whined about them). Come on. I hate lava. I never use it, and a lot of times I fall in. Can it affect gameplay? Sure. Should it be optional? No. You know why? It's essential and it's something that makes Minecraft fun. It also fits the mining part of the game. I'm sure hunger fits the survival part of the game somewhere. If everything was optional it would just be legos on crack.
Creative mode!
"sometimes, wizards are so awesome, it hurts"
There is no hunger in creative mode either.
