MineCon is going to be celebrating the release of Minecraft as I recall, so the Adventure update is bound to happen in September (rather, shortly after PAX Prime)
You're right! I misread. He said before minecraft con as a general term. That could mean pretty much anything. So, I go back to my prior theory that it will be released roughly a week after PAX prime! (Yay!)
EDIT:
So, to clear it up, the only things we know are:
1 - There will be a "preview" of the adventure update at PAX prime.
2 - For the halloween update, PC gamer was given a preview copy of the game about 1 week before release
3 - Minecraft is expected to be finished before Minecon, which is in november.
What we can safely guess:
1 - Notch wouldn't give out a preview for adventure update unless it was pretty close to being finished.
2 - Any sane person would want there to be as little bugs as possible for the preview. This makes it likely that they will leave out a few features from the preview so that they can polish it up, and then spend a week or two putting the features they didn't have finished and polished in.

They're having the first playable version of the "Adventure Update" at PAX so that they can get feedback on the new material. THEN making the final tweaks and adjustments from what they received to make the official 1.8 update. So I would say, give them a week or two after PAX.
I saw notch in an interview saying something about November, so no hopes for a release after 1 week.
The biggest update before this one was Alpha 1.2.0 (halloween update) and yet it took only a month for it to come out.I dont think NPC villages and Strongholds and some minor things take 3+ months to make them when a whole new dimension took only one month
My guess the adventure update will come out 1-10 September

The hardest part of the new dimension would have been linking it to the real world via a portal. Actually creating said dimension would have been fairly easy, there's only one biome, and what 3 or 4 new blocks? And those new blocks make up the composition of the new dimension. I'm thinking NPC's, and villages, and new biomes, and Rivers, and New Bigger Dungeons, and ravines, and fence gates, and a new hunger bar, and a new experience bar, and new food...etc, etc
would certainly take up a great deal more time to program in. NPC's especially, take a look at the Millenaire mod for proof on this. The authors been at it for a while now, and the NPC's are still somewhat buggy (though admittedly improve greatly for each new release).
I'm hopping for soon, but I'm definitely not counting on any date in particular.
Oh shut up with your non-sense. Give us some source. Also, 1.8 isn't the last update. Theres 1.9 too, Which is going to be sky demension and underwater content I think. Official launch is going to be November,2011. That maybe beta 2.0 is the end of beta.
I have a feeling this update will be released in early september since i read something on the forums that said notch was going to be taking user feedback on the update demo which is going to be at pax. so dont get your hopes up for it being released this month :sad.gif:
its in the box that says about minecraft, i know thats for the full release, but i thought it might help.
*facepalm
Urgh i dont even...
So your saying that the adventure update is coming out a week or two before the official release of the game?If that is so what do thay plan on adding to the full version 1.0 update? Will they have time to add anything rather than some minor bug fixes?
check out this link: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features scroll down and look on the right column it says what he is talking about, apparently he is correct. But if you look at the source by clicking on the 88 in blue, you can see that it says they will release it AFTER PAX, not stating that they will release it the exact day after.
I beleive he got it from the wiki because there it says it will be released after august 28th somestime after PAX. So im guessing he'll release it on the 29th, 30th, or 31st
Not even Mojang knows for sure what day it'll be released. We were given a rough estimate of late August / early September via Notch and jeb's twitter a longgg time ago, and we now know that we definitely won't see 1.8 released until after PAX (August 28th). Considering how more updates are planned between beta 1.8 and release 1.0 in November, we should still expect to see 1.8 sometime during the first 2 weeks of September, though nothing is set in stone.
Ok, ok, don't rage. It was a simple question, because the link in your OP didn't link. If he's anything like me, then he probably skimmed over the link.
LOL

No more need to discuss this.
You know, because that's why we are having Minecon in the first place.
