Mojang should keep updates on the down-low. As you can see...
the majority of the people who play Minecraft are insanely dumb.
The update isn't even out yet, and people are "ENDERMAN STRATEGY VOLUME 1" and "I DON'T LIKE NPC VILLAGES AND I THINK THEY SHOULD BE OPTIONAL BECAUSE I HAVE OCD AND I SIMPLY CAN'T IGNORE SOMETHING OF WHICH I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S A BIG DEAL TO THE GAME OR NOT."
I know information about updates excites us, but they should probably release only tiny bits of it, so that ^THAT^ will actually be relevant to the time it's posted. Thank you and goodbye.
Also We all know this, don't deny it. Minecraft was only truly fun when we didn't know jack-**** about it. Remember when we didn't know how to survive our first night? That's what made MC fun: us knowing nothing about it.
Anyway, people can talk about whatever they want. Forums are places to go and share ideas, and if you aren't a complete asshole then you're invited. Now if you go to a forum and you find (low and behold) ideas that conflict with yours, you can dispute them with their owners using rhetoric. In this way, we all struggle to settle on what we deem as the most reasonable conclusions.
What I'm saying is, you're bound to see things that you think are dumb, because thousands of people are shouting ideas. Try to ignore them, or correct them using what you perceive to be the correct point of view. Try to do this in a civil manner and people will recognize your courtesy.

First off, their posts contain cries out to the one and only god they know (Notch), begging him to make Minecraft the way they want. Secondly, the update isn't out yet, and people here are acting like experts of the 1.8 update. It is stupid and unnecessary. I'm not saying they can't share their ideas (that's why we have a suggestions forum). Why can't we be somewhat civilized and discuss the major leak of information about the adventure update without peeing on everything? We're supposed to be Beta Testers, not the head of Mojang. We should give them feedback after the update occurs.

What do you want people to do? There are literally thousands of users here and most are very young. Some of them aren't going to communicate in the way you'd like. What are you hoping to accomplish by chastising them like so? Get out of this thread, go into their threads, and state your opinions in a reasonable and civilized manner. It's your only hope of spreading what you deem to be good behavior. Otherwise you're just a shout in a snowstorm.
And when I said ideas, I meant it in a broader way, like opinions.

Not my point. I'm saying that Mojang should keep most information about updates secret, so that the users here can leave the team be and not be immature/overexcited brats.
Collateral damage, I like Notchs release philosophy, and all the silliness and drama that come with it. Good times. Those who get trolled by bad info are just not ready for the internet yet, and the assumers/ragers are hilarious at best and slightly annoying at worst.
My only gripe is that it bogs down the forum search, but since the forum search sucks anyways and there are way too many redundant threads

What's that going to fix? Less information means more speculation, because people won't have as much of an idea what they're doing. Threads that are now about fighting enderman would be replaced by threads with pictures of what they'll look like, or threads about what they'll do, and so on and so forth. I know you see the logic in this.
And I seriously doubt Mojang gives two ****s about the forums crowding with buzz. They don't even run the forums, and I doubt that they read them all that often either.
Agreed, people need to stop going "ZOMFG 00PD0T!111 D3@R N0TCH PLZ OOD LI3K OV3R 9000 M0BZ0RZ 0RZ I QUITZ AN N3RF 3ND3RM3N D3Y HAZ NOT 3V3N CO3M OOT Y3T BUT D3Y SHUD R3PIR UR HUS3 PLZ!!!111"

> People on forums cry about update

> Jeb makes NPC Villages optional
I know you know that Jeb's change was totally unnecessary. It kind of brings fear to what the community can turn the game into.

If people didn't want villages then obviously it wasn't totally unnecessary. Also, I witnessed several twitter exchanges revolving around the villages. In fact, twitter was the place I first heard that the villages were being made optional. It's reasonable to assume that the team will find out about what people on the forums want whether or not they're browsing the forums very often, thanks to not only twitter, but the simple nature of popular ideas to spread.
The change was made so that people who don't want villages don't have to play with them. All it turned the game into was something more configurable. There is literally zero detriment to any of the people who wanted villages.

But villages are so minor right now. No information has been released which makes it a big deal. Maybe, just maybe if we let Mojang do their thing, and let us play their own version of 1.8, maybe it wouldn't be so bad.
ALSO... another reason to keep update information secret:
We all know this, don't deny it. Minecraft was only truly fun when we didn't know jack-**** about it. Remember when we didn't know how to survive our first night? That's what made MC fun: us knowing nothing about it.

I see my name in the screenshot! (sorry, I'm easily entertained sometimes)
Seriously though, I'd like to believe Notch and Jeb give out the info to warm people up to the idea and get them hyped about the game. Fact is the updates for minecraft has been a considerably good device to keep people coming back and continue playing the game, but since this update is taking forever they still wish to keep the interest of their fans and have to spoil a few surprises just to make sure they are still hooked. I am only looking at this from one perspective though.

But what you're asserting as "bad" isn't necessarily bad at all. You just find it annoying. What I see when I look at the forums is a bunch of people pouring their ideas out to each other. You're bound to see some dumb stuff but it's the internet. You can't really fix that.
We'll still be playing their version of 1.8. Any correction from the community is one agreed upon by Mojang, obviously, so what we're basically doing here is saving them the effort of adding options post-release by telling them what we have problems with now and allowing them to decide if they want to change it or not.
I would think that it would be implied that any feature people are crying about that is changed is a feature that Mojang has given them enough information on for complaints to be valid. Take the endermen for example. How many whiney threads have you seen over a mob that we barely know anything but broad concepts about? There's no way for people to know exactly how they'll work in game, and Mojang knows that they don't know this, so the endermen haven't really been changed, despite the complaints.
Mojang isn't a robot that's going to beep boop bend over and do whatever the community says. If they did, Minecraft would be a massive failure.

I will deny it. I've played this game since early creative mode and followed every update intently. There was almost nothing that surprised me. I still play Minecraft all the time, even though by your definition it has never been "truly fun" for me. This fact reveals to me a certain amount of frailty in this assertion of yours, since I'm quite enjoying myself even with this lack of surprise.

Then again the majority of Minecraft players are either autistic, prepubescent or a combination of both so no, I am not really surprised.

"Autistic" usually implies a bit more normal social functionality in the subject, and in some cases, remarkable mental ability. I'm not trying to bash on the community here, I just think the word you were looking for was "retarded".

All we're doing here is judging a book, that's not even written, by it's cover... or we are looking at the author's summary. Maybe we should let the update flow by itself instead of saying "Although I haven't read your book yet, I can tell it definitely needs changes" or "Even though I haven't read your book yet, I'm going to review it." There's nothing to be reviewed yet! Nothing has happened! We should let the game stay as it should be, or as how the makers of it intend it to be, and if we don't like it, they'll possibly change it. If too many options are made, Minecraft will stay in that pure sandbox stage. Notch himself said he wants things in Minecraft that will challenge players and will change the way we play it.
