Understand this, many of the mods created are because of things that notch or jeb have stated will be added in the future. Realize the fact that of course Mojang is slow at getting out new content because compare 2 guys coding vs. a community of 10,000's of modders! Also, note that many mods are incompatible with each other or outdated. Also, when Mojang adds something, they do it right, mods don't normally fit the feel of Minecraft and can seem out of place.
Just because a modder did something already doesn't mean Mojang can't add it.
Stop your whining and leave.
Actually, Mojang has reserved the right to take ideas from their modding community. I wouldn't say all mods are always buggy like you claim though. Some more popular mods usually are less buggy than most. It's not like these mod makers have a million people testing and complaining to them when there are bugs. It seems to be a state of mind that a mod doesn't belong in vanilla minecraft.
Pistons have hardly any noticable change from the piston mod and suddenly it feels "minecrafty" when it is added in vanilla. Mods can have balance and feel in place so long as they have enough work put in them. I for one feel Millenaire to be a fun and rewarding experience, it doesn't feel alienated to me, it feels like it could belong if vanilla minecraft if need be.
As for the modding community counting as one individual... I fail to see people's fixation on lumping the entire community in one mass. It should be one mod maker's entire works compared to Notch's updates at a time. Some people agrue the entire mass of mods available cover everything already, but it's not like these mods work together all the time, so no point in counting them as one big all in one package like most seem to want to do.
However, Notch made the halloween update alone. He also started twitting about "Maybe I haven't got enough time" like, five days after announcing. We're not screwed yet.
Well I wasn't even going to reply to him because both of the examples he used were finished, one was even put in the game and removed the next day. Both were scraped due to negative feedback. Imagine that, a developer actually listening to player feedback? Sorcery I say!
That excuse is as good as the same claims by Wall Street cronies about how they're entitled to their jobs that pay outrageous executive compensations for the little work they don't do while the little workers slave away.
No one on Earth does $20 million dollars of work. Ever.
You just dug yourself a huge hole, good luck getting out alive.

At any rate, you guys need to remember, modding, and actual game development are two extremely different things, I see it perfectly reasonable for it to take double or even triple the time / effort to develop something for a game, than to mod it in. The developers have game balance to consider (both feel and technical), they also have an overall goal for the game, where as the modder only has a goal for their mod. (I would add more to that list but I think others have already fully covered those points)

Ahhh yes, I forgot that one card they had up their sleeves. Tricky tricky!
It's a shame most will miss the fact that this was a really well written post with facts to backup all the statements. The Notch fanboys can only see "negative thing said about Notch" and just jump to his rescue.
What I'm trying to say is that all this game really needs is a Mod API to string everything together.
Notch and the other developers work reallllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy slowly compared to modders, and it's their full time job while modders do this in their spare time, just look at the aether collab.
Mods have created customizable ships/planes, HUNDREDS of new mobs, seasons, end game goals, tens of other dimensions with their own mobs and useful blocks, amazing features like extending block height, boosting your FPS, adding GLSL shaders, tweaked inventories, etc etc etc.
IMO Mojang should stop adding new content to Minecraft because most likely it's already been done and all it does is break all the mods already released, instead they should focus on bug fixes, mod compatibility and SMP :sleep.gif: because they're far too slow at adding new content compared to the modding community.
So seriously Notch fanboys, read that and try to get his point. Compare it with what Valve and other companies have done, they make a great game engine, work on the SDK, and just let the community make the content. But Notch doesnt want to do that for some reason, saying its too much work? But its not too much work to single handedly add mediocre content that has already been made?

Just read this part, and its hard to disagree.

That is quite an unfair opinion. Modders will basically modify the game, hence the name they will never usually make hugh changes or other stuff that Notch is adding. Also the content the community adds just isn't for everyone. A lot of people shoot down modifications to the game because they stereotype mods as bad, complicated, etc. These people will be stuck with the basic game and eventually get bored of it and leave. So what I am trying to say improving the core game is very necessary for the vanilla fanbase despite the modding community being so rich and I think the 1.8 adventure update is proof of that.

Yes but every story has two sides. Valve and other companies have the time, resources, and employies to make a source code, AND : Minecraft isnt even finished. Its also funny how people who defend the owner of a game who it seems all of us play from critisism of acting to slow on not doing something since they have a mod out classifies us as "fanboys".
It also was not that well written and did not have facts, just opinions.
Can't you see mod developers improve the game if mojang likes the mods then they put it into the game I'm excepting the Aether to be added on the update after 1.8 because of how popular it is.

Since when does Valve only let the community make the content? They release awesome games, and THEN people make awesome content. I have 0 issue with notch supporting mods. I am waiting for the API so I can make my own mod. My objection is to the suggestion that they should sacrifice the core game to do so. Valve made the source engine, and that is great. They also made the half life series, and the portal series, which are some of the best games on the planet. The only examples of games which release and have the community fill in content are games like spore or littlee big planet, which are operating under the user-made content principle. And even that is radically different from what is being proposed here. This is not a usual pattern, don't say that it is.
And he is not adding content that has already been made. That is entirely the wrong perspective. Notch is adding elements to create a specific game, vanilla minecraft. Modders sometime take an element of that design and implement it. In their own way, as a singular entity, which may or may not be compatible with any other mods. While the basic description of the feature may be the same (villages, pistons, more mobs), the details will vary wildly. Take pistons, for example. Mojang did not so much incorpate the piston mod as add a feature based on it. You have a redstone powered device that can push blocks. Beyond that, pretty much every detail differs. The official implementation fits into the world a lot better, and I would rather have it, even if it has a few more restrictions. Mojang should never shy away from implementing a planned feature because a modder did something similar.
And I don't understand what you mean by "Notch doesn't want to do that". Notch has radically altered his update schedule to accommodate mods. he has been working to create a modding API that will not limit what mods can do. He is doing far more for modders than most companies, with the exceptions of those who are explicitly releasing an engine.
Minecraft is not a game engine. It was never designed to be a game engine. You can mod it to use it as a game engine, but it was intended to be a game. It is a good game. It is a game that has sold millions of copies. There is no reason not to let them continue and make it a great game.
Can't you see mod developers improve the game if mojang likes the mods then they put it into the game I'm excepting the Aether to be added on the update after 1.8 because of how popular it is.
They have explicitly stated the aether will not be added. It is a good mod, but not a good addition to the core game. From what I've seen of it, I have to agree.

Um, Mojang is implementing mod support. You do know that, right?
I think it's fine for the Mojang haters to expect more content from mods than in patches, but to say Mojang shouldn't work on THEIR game, is a bit ridiculous. Look at it this way, Mojang gave modders everything they needed to work with, modders don't start from scratch, they have a whole game to pick apart. And whose game is that? Mojang's. So Mojang has the right to do whatever they want to their own game.
If Valve never worked on their own games, no-one would be able to mod them.
They have explicitly stated the aether will not be added. It is a good mod, but not a good addition to the core game. From what I've seen of it, I have to agree.
Oh thanks for letting me know :smile.gif: Hmm I guess the Aether is fun but with all custom items and blocks can make it annoying maybe adding something like the Aether but not with all the extra items.

How do I word this? Ratty got on blasted, hardcore would describe this situation perfectly, no?
I'm not saying that mojang should stop development/stop themselves from fleshing out the game/etc
I'm trying to say that they should focus primarily on the games infrastructure/gameplay mechanics/the mod API/ETC
of course Notch and his team are going to add whatever they feel should go into vanilla, but I believe that true satisfaction would come from what you want to have in the game (AKA mods) therefore mods should be focusing on content (There's a mod that balances the effect of custom tools and the breaking speed of custom blocks but I forget what it was called >_<) since with modded content everyone gets to pick and choose what they want in the game.
Minecraft modding is unlike modding in other games, there is a RIDICULOUS amount of Minecraft mods with a HUGE varity and this is mostly due to the fact that minecraft is a very flexible game, this is a game where all of the flavors come from the community and not the developer, with mods anything is possible in your Minecraft and that's why I think Notch should pay a lot more attention to modding (Increasing block IDs, compatibility, simple mod adding/disabling GUI like in some other games)
Your wrong in so many ways.

Did you say Notch and Jens work SLOWER than most developers? Get your facts straight, idiot. Updates used to be released every ****ing Friday. Plus, Minecraft has monthly updates, which is actually a lot faster than most developers.
People, people. Mods are generally what other people feel like adding to the game and then releasing it. As multiple people have said, Mojang have to worry about everything. Modders just make their own features, and the arrogant ones say: "OMG LOLOLO MAH MOD'S BETTAH THAN MOJANG'S OFFICIAL CONTENT LOLOLO". And you know what? Mods break the game's code. Mods don't work together well. MODS. AREN'T. OFFICIAL.
So to all the people who say "OMG MOJANG SUCKS!" I say: **** ***.
most mods dont feel like minecraft at all and plus if every one has a whole ton of mods in their game how are we soposto play multiplayer then multiplayer will be the same every time and you dont whant to spend hours fiind the server that has all the mods that you whant and the mods arnt reliable and might crash their game and make curupt worlds that people spent hours on playing and no ones going to make a back up of their save evry 2 mins cuz you dont know what will happen so thats a bad idea
The thiing iis with mods,, is that it ddoesn't take long because they have a base to work from. Notch, Jeb, and the rest of Mojang don't. Modders also don't have to have a game's worth of content, or nessecarily be bug-free. They also have a lot more free time to add things, since it's not a job. Some modders can also just work on one thing, where as Mojang - like mentioned before - have to make the base mods themselves can work from.
