Meh. You're wrong. I haven't seen a mod (other than the Aether) with dungeons like the mineshafts and strongholds/ruins. I haven't seen a mod (other than the Aether) with poisonous mobs.
The reason I keep saying other than the Aether is because the Aether was AMAZING and took months to put together. Most other mods have a few new mobs and they make the world look a bit prettier. Mdding doesn't hold a candlestick to the real updates. And as a lot of people said before: MODDING BREAKS THE GAME. Modding is hacking. Hacking is bad. You shouldn't use mods.
There are hundreds of Modders. And a fairly small team working on Minecraft, and Minecraft isn't Mojang's only project they have Scrolls, Cobalt and at least one other secret project. Most mods don't have SMP support and have certain issues or bugs with them. Most of Minecraft's bugs get fixed quickly and have SMP support right away (usually). Besides, I doubt many modders could have done much without all of Mojang's work there beforehand. Mojang made a entirely new game and modders just build off of that game.
Full release is in Nov, after that people will HAVE to mod if they want new content :sleep.gif: since Notch will most likely move onto developing his other games or he might pop in for DLC which is optional (no different then a mod)
the whole purpose of a mod api (again :sleep.gif:) is to have all of those mods work in harmony, that's the thing Notch should be focusing on, also Mojang is going to stop updating one way or another, this isn't an MMO or online based game, once it's finished=No support except for DLC which is modability should be the number one focus.
Notch has stated in numerous interviews that he will be very focused on DLC for Minecraft after its full release. Things like 'The Forest Expansion' (was just a random name he said, just messing around w/ ideas in his head during the interview).
The interview was by OmniTechNews on Youtube. I'm sure you'll be able to find it.
This is just the tip of the iceberg on mods that have already been out for some time but are still highly anticipated as vanilla content.
What I'm trying to say is that all this game really needs is a Mod API to string everything together.
Notch and the other developers work reallllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy slowly compared to modders, and it's their full time job while modders do this in their spare time, just look at the aether collab.
Mods have created customizable ships/planes, HUNDREDS of new mobs, seasons, end game goals, tens of other dimensions with their own mobs and useful blocks, amazing features like extending block height, boosting your FPS, adding GLSL shaders, tweaked inventories, etc etc etc.
IMO Mojang should stop adding new content to Minecraft because most likely it's already been done and all it does is break all the mods already released, instead they should focus on bug fixes, mod compatibility and SMP :sleep.gif: because they're far too slow at adding new content compared to the modding community.
Well said.
I agree completely.
I've always thought that most of the modders deserve the $$ Notch has made...

It wouldn't be fair if Notch simply decided that if Minecraft players wanted all the features, that they would have to scoure around and download a bunch of seperate items, and trust that the people who made them did it properly. No matter what, big/core features should come stock, and fancy things like Dragons and what have you can be the seperate things that people can get if they want. Obviously, Notch things everyone can benefit from what he's putting in the updates, so he doesn't want to rely on Mods to let people play them. From a business standpoint, it's alot easier to sell a product thats fully-featured and robust, than a shell of a game with mod support to add features.
Some of us aren't interested in mods, or don't play single player mode. A modding API is something that has to be considered very carefully; rushing it could cause a great deal of segmentation and obfuscation in the development process.
for everyone who thinks the modders are working faster,
this is how im thinking, correct me if im wrong
Millinare mod is npc villages created by a modder,
more mobs are being worked on by another modder,
larger dungeons by another.
Thats 3 thing being worked on by 3 different modders,
Mojang is making all 3, fortresses, mobs, and villages
it will take them 3x longer, because they are doing 3x the things,
not three separate people working on it.
But seriously, some of you think these thousands of modders out here created Minecraft. Well guess what, they didn't! Big surprise!
Notch did. Get over it, people REQUESTED this stuff to be in the game, so over consideration he added it in. Is it really that hard for you people to understand?
If I remember rightly, Pistons were a mod as well...and people really couldn't stop asking for them to be added...
Also, these updates aren't mods. There might be mods for similar things, but that's a moot point imo since not everyone uses mods, Mojang might do them differently (code-wise) and mods for something does not = never going in final version.
At least, I hope not.

Yay, another "my opinion is better than your opinion" thread. My goodness, isn't trying to convince other people that your opinion is BETTER than theirs?

Mods are unstable, mods are time-consuming, and mods certainly aren't that intercompatible.
