This is just the tip of the iceberg on mods that have already been out for some time but are still highly anticipated as vanilla content.
What I'm trying to say is that all this game really needs is a Mod API to string everything together.
Notch and the other developers work reallllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy slowly compared to modders, and it's their full time job while modders do this in their spare time, just look at the aether collab.
Mods have created customizable ships/planes, HUNDREDS of new mobs, seasons, end game goals, tens of other dimensions with their own mobs and useful blocks, amazing features like extending block height, boosting your FPS, adding GLSL shaders, tweaked inventories, etc etc etc.
IMO Mojang should stop adding new content to Minecraft because most likely it's already been done and all it does is break all the mods already released, instead they should focus on bug fixes, mod compatibility and SMP :sleep.gif: because they're far too slow at adding new content compared to the modding community.
Notch is making Minecraft, not the modders. Only he will be able to create something inventive, fun, and compatible with the rest of the game so far. You post with all your mods, mods don't matter. MODS AREN'T MINECRAFT. If you want to not update to 1.8 and instead get all of those mods (half of which are incompatible with each other), be my guest. Idiot.
Yes I said they shouldn't keep adding NEW content, AKA Enderman and all of the things they thought they should add in based on their own opinions, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, it's just that I would prefer that time and effort be put into framework and I get everything else that you're saying.
I don't want Mojang to just stop what they're doing and focus on something else :sleep.gif: I want them to shift their views almost completely onto freamwork and obvious features, not small trinkets.
also@ guy saying Vanilla has more content then mods.
wdf?
also mystify
have you heard of the Yogbox?
Amazopack? (sp)
AMCO?
If they put more attention on the framework than they are on the game as a whole, it will weaken it. A developershould never have to do anything that will weaken their game. This does not always hold up in the real world, but mojang is as ideal a position as is possible to make their game without compromise.
And yes, I have heard of mod packs. I've looked at them, and they are still collections of disparate elements, not a functional whole.
Since you like mods so much, I assume you are familiar with the aether. The aether was the result of collaboration towards a planned goal. It added a lot of new content, an did so in a cohesive package. It is arguably the best mod that has been released.
Now imagine if that was just made as separate mods. someone adds in the sky dimension. Another person creates a mod for the advanced dungeons. Another person creates a mod for magic items. Assume that they somehow manage to be compatable with each other, but were developed independently with no collaboration. Would the sum of those parts equal the aether mod? No. There would be no cohesion. The mod was designed as a whole, and intended to function together. The various elements are linked and tied together. That is only possible because they collaborated and operated towards a clear goal.
That is what the vanilla game should offer. Mojangs vision, distilled into a complete whole. Every "trinket" they want in the game, every idea merged into the tapestry. Even when external ideas are incorporated, they are massaged and modified to fit into the goal. In order to accomplish this goal, they will be building up and supporting the framework. They have to use it too. But I find the suggestion that they don't create the game they intend to create to be very offensive, speaking as a game designer.
Valve created the source engine, which has been the foundation of countless games on mods. Did they say "oh, people are making mods and games with this engine, so lets just stop making our own games and work on the engine"? No! They have released several awesome games based on the engine, and in the course of that development, improved and expanded on it.They didn't sacrifice the quality of portal 2 because people were making map packs.
Mojang should make Minecraft. They should make it to the fullest extent of their abilities, realize the vision for the game, and make it the best game they can. The existence of modders does not change that. It does not mean they should hamper their development and become a base for mods. They should add the endermen, they ravines, every detail of what their game is.
To guy who started this topic-
You are an idiot,
These guys aren't a HUGE company who is able to get a WHOLE game done in a month. ( Like COD ( no ofense to anyone ) ) Notch also recently, WAS MARRIED, was part of Ludum Dare. And they also have to think of amazing things for the game so it would be fun, so don't be a douche.

I am pretty sure you would all enjoy hanging out with me... if you like enjoying games for the games and not for the stupid things. ENJOY YOUR HOUSE; It will be gone soon...
I feel like there is something you are overlooking about the pace of modders. Modders only have to work on their one portion of the game. Jens and Markus work on EVERYTHING dealing with the game. They have to make everything cohesive. A Modder making a combat mod doesn't have to worry about farming or boats or trees. He just has to worry about combat. Comparing the entirety of the mining community to Mojang is not really a fair comparison.

Nature should really stop catering to all these furries! I mean, do we REALLY need two kinds of elephant? Puh-leaze.

That's because the source hasn't been released (and it shouldn't for good reason) if it were you would be amazed at what modders could create.
Also @Jonathan CODs not a company and I already covered everything else in your post, herpa derpa.
@Mystify
That's the weird with Minecraft, it was sold while in Alpha and it's development has been open the whole way, I know no other games that were made this way (I'm guessing it's an indie thing).
I don't see what's wrong with the Yogbox, IMO it's perfectly balanced.
There's no OP drops or mobs, all the ores seem to be common/rare enough depending on their use and ETC, the only thing I don't like is Israphael teleporting through my walls and raping me with arrows
That's because the source hasn't been released (and it shouldn't for good reason) if it were you would be amazed at what modders could create.
That is missing my point. What I said has nothing to do with whether they have source code or not. It has everything to do with game design. Let's say you are the guying making the guns mod. You only have to make the guns, and make sure that it acts properly against mobs. You don't have to worry about tree generation, boat behaviour, Nether textures, or whatever. They only have to worry about the guns and those things that the guns directly affect.
Mojang, on the other hand, is working on EVERYTHING Minecraft. They do have to worry about all those things. They don't have the luxury of just forgetting about everything else in favor of one feature.

Full release is in Nov, after that people will HAVE to mod if they want new content :sleep.gif: since Notch will most likely move onto developing his other games or he might pop in for DLC which is optional (no different then a mod)
the whole purpose of a mod api (again :sleep.gif:) is to have all of those mods work in harmony, that's the thing Notch should be focusing on, also Mojang is going to stop updating one way or another, this isn't an MMO or online based game, once it's finished=No support except for DLC which is modability should be the number one focus.
Wrong.
Notch, in his blog, said in a recent post that he will do post-release updates. Don't ask me for proof, find the post yourself on tumblr.

So because it has been open with its development, they should scrap their plans and just support a base for mods? Their openness is why we have a lot of these mods, specifically the ones mimicing announced but not implemented features. Somebody sees the feature, goes "oh, that sounds cool. I'll make a mod for it", creates their own version, so you think we don't need the real version that will actually be made by mojang.
I bought minecraft. I want to play minecraft, not modcraft. A large part of the reason i've been as interested in the game as I am is because I've heard what notch is planning, and I want to play that game. Not the cobbled together mess of a bunch of mods. Their transparancy is how I know I want what minecraft is becoming, not an excuse to tell them to stop adding content.
And even the yogbox has elements I disapprove of. Mo' creatures, for instance. Its a giant glob of quantity over quality. Death chest destroys the death mechanic. The pack does not do a lot of things I know are planned, and most of the elements I like in it are, in fact, planned for the game. Those mods are in no way a replacement for the proper development of the game.
Mods are extensions of the game. They do not form a good game in and of themselves. Minecraft should provide a solid core by itself.if you want to play with a dozen mods, fine. Be my guest. But don't insinuate that the core game should be abandoned in favor of mods.
I'm willing to bet that the aforementioned features will be much better implemented in the actual game than what these mods are giving us. Besides, now that they're being implemented, they can be built upon even further by modders. It's a give and take business. Modders improve the game, the game developers improve the mods.
Notch on his twitter: "bugs that feel wrong get fixed"
Do not get attached to your saves, seriously, stuff like this has happened before, if there's something you love and really want to build...Wait for release.
Well, it doesn't really add anything to the core game. It even enforces the use of it's own materials while in that world. It's not cohesive to the rest of Minecraft. It's like another house, rather than a second story to the existing house. And I'd rather have things in a second story, rather than having to go to a new house to get them.
But that is neither here nor there.

You guys need to get off of Notch's nuts. If anyone criticizes Notch or Mojang in the slightest, oh dear lord here comes the wahh-mbulance. "Oh no don't insult poor little indie Notch hes just a small guy developing games while working 4 jobs and he does'nt deserve criticism". Grow up. Oh, and to all of you saying that they only got like two people working on it. Maybe Notch should hire some more people with all of the money hes made like a real company does so the game can be worked on while hes having his little fun with his 48 hour crappy game-making stream.
