This is just the tip of the iceberg on mods that have already been out for some time but are still highly anticipated as vanilla content.
What I'm trying to say is that all this game really needs is a Mod API to string everything together.
Notch and the other developers work reallllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy slowly compared to modders, and it's their full time job while modders do this in their spare time, just look at the aether collab.
Mods have created customizable ships/planes, HUNDREDS of new mobs, seasons, end game goals, tens of other dimensions with their own mobs and useful blocks, amazing features like extending block height, boosting your FPS, adding GLSL shaders, tweaked inventories, etc etc etc.
IMO Mojang should stop adding new content to Minecraft because most likely it's already been done and all it does is break all the mods already released, instead they should focus on bug fixes, mod compatibility and SMP :sleep.gif: because they're far too slow at adding new content compared to the modding community.

youre forgetting the fact that they are hiding A HELLA LOT of things from us, and that is why the update is taking long

ugh do you remember the Halloween update?
I'd bet you anything that you'll probably receive LESS then what they're promising.
We were supposed to get extinguishable torches (Mods got that), increased mob spawn on lower levels (mods already do that) and more, also the nether was kind of a disappointment, there were 3 blocks and 2 mobs
While the aether has over 20 blocks and 10 mobs
uhhh ya.

If I started modding (In feb when I have time) would everything I say matter all of a sudden?
when 1.8 was firstly announced notch said that he is giving 79 or more features
then he gave a sneak peak of all those lists
Proof.
@Wolf, there's modders are usually in their late teens and early 20s, also they have lives, school, jobs and they don't get paid for this while Mojang gets paid full time :sleep.gif:
@Lil the whole purpose of a MOD API is to make all of them work in harmony, also if you don't back up your saves then you're an idiot
@Bob, some people (I don't know why the hell it is) can't run Minecraft at full view/half view/AT ALL what does that have to do with anything?
Also there are mods like Optifine which BOOST performance, even for vanilla.
In the full release, Notch hopes to have mod support. And as others have said, mods are unreliable. It's much more difficult to put all of these features in, and make them work together, than to make the features one by one, on their own, whether they work with the others or not. And what about the people that can't/won't mod? It's not fair to them if Mojang simply stops updating because "Well, everything we do has already been done, so bye Minecraft!"

Full release is in Nov, after that people will HAVE to mod if they want new content :sleep.gif: since Notch will most likely move onto developing his other games or he might pop in for DLC which is optional (no different then a mod)
the whole purpose of a mod api (again :sleep.gif:) is to have all of those mods work in harmony, that's the thing Notch should be focusing on, also Mojang is going to stop updating one way or another, this isn't an MMO or online based game, once it's finished=No support except for DLC which is modability should be the number one focus.

Okay, so Mojang has Jeb and Notch working on code, and C418 doing music. I am not aware of anyone else working on it directly. There are thousands of modders. Of course modders are going to get things done faster. And they will put more out. It is inevitable that a feature will be added that is similar to something that a mod has done.

He has said that after release, he will take a week off and then start working on new content. He is not planning on dumping Minecraft as soon as it is released.

Hey don't dis Mojang! They have most of that stuff done! They just haven't released it yet. Plus they have to make it still fit the feel of minecraft. Most of those mods don't really have the feel of minecraft. Not all of those mods can be together and they aren't as reliable.
I know. People who are professionals are **** at what they do and they just copy what the righteous and glorious modders do.
This is why you should not be able to mod games people.
People are just ungrateful whiners. Modding does not need to be limited, people just need to try coding a game and keeping a community happy before they start complaining.

I'm waiting for the sdk so that modding isn't so risky and complicated.

http://hopealexander.hubpages.com/hub/River-Gen-Make-Flowing-Minecraft-Rivers (Pretty sure it's outdated)
There are plenty of canyon seeds (gargamel) and I'm pretty sure you could pull one off easily with the increased block height+ pheonix
and there's no ravine mods but there are mods for larger caves AND biome specific caves, so in the desert the caves would be made of sandstone.
