.....will 1.8 ruin all mob farms :| didn't really think about it but if they do, that might mean water will be able to travel more than 8 blocks......not cool man not cool
edit: and by "they" i mean the rivers sorry its early
Yes, and no one gives a crap about how much you wan't it to flow, its not like notch lied to you, its still a river no matter how much you whine "but dey weele sed wivas"

TBH- just add a new type of water block- 'river' water. the surface is horizontal, but it flows slowly. If it is picked up in a bucket, a normal source block is deposited.

That would be a good design until he fully fixes water mechanics in game.
Also, so far we know that his mock-up has them as still water, but that doesn't mean they will be still when he is done with them :3

Rivers seem completely flat from the screenshot, which in the case, flowing water wouldn't even make sense. Rivers in real life flow because of gravity (Durr). I could personally care less if the water flows or not. I'm just happy the terrain generation is going to be a ton better.
The ocean should have current too then! I mean really!
Rivers probably have LESS current than the ocean, unless it's right near a waterfall or is really a stream. It's not like we're losing out on much here.
You are wrong sir, He needs to build a bridge to get over it :smile.gif:
Please remember where are playing minecraft here, Not GTA when u have all ur bridges done.!
So? They also say BETA in the main menu, but this game is far from beta, Minecraft is more like alpha(because there is still major updates)
Alpha and Beta is not determined by the size of the updates. Alpha means that the game engines are still being implemented and tested. Beta is all about improving the game.
Oh yes, rivers are like the seas we currently have, except shaped like rivers. also, there will be larger oceans and more realistic continents in terms of size and shape.
If only that finite water mod became vanilla. Then we'd have real finite water (except ocean water), and rivers could actually work even if the source lake is 1 km away from the delta or mouth of the river and 1 meter higher than the source.
Judging by the map he put up on Twitter as well as the screenshots, it's completely flat, and rivers don't have sources. They just sort of meander through continents into other oceans. For the interest of gameplay, it's still cool, and honestly, real-life physics don't apply to Minecraft anyways. I mean, you can have floating blocks, you cut trees from the bottom up without them falling, and you can build ridiculous structures that would collapse in the real world. Honestly, who gives a **** about realism in the end?

But its like.... a river!!
But they really said "Rivers"

But then you cant just come back an hour later and see you traveled 600 Kilometers on boat
You can do this now:
A mighty machine built within the wake
Of a long dead dream, little demon awake
The citizens sleep, never quite knowing when
The device will reawaken, hungry again.
Edit: A river only flows if it's going downhill. The river in the picture was on flat ground.
If the rivers so far are only at sea level, then they wouldn't flow anyway.
That would be a good design until he fully fixes water mechanics in game.

To the farlands?
The Minecraft world is 8• the surface area of the Earth, so from the origin to the farlands is 4• the equator.
600 Kilometers doesn't even go across the state of Wyoming, let alone the equator four times.
