Have you thought of putting a post over here? That's where a lot of people go for 1.8 info.
This is unoficial/oficialish and has not been confirmed for 1.8. It could come in 1.7.4 or 1.9. The 1.8 thread is a mess and maybe two people would see it anyway. At least this isn't Hur Dur Enderman.
A chunk per pixel seems like WAY too much. I would figure it to be closer to about a pixel = block, or something close to that. Even then, Its still MASSIVE.
It's already been solved. It's actually 4-10 pixels per chunk, which is 16x16.

A pixel equaling a block? are you crazy? that would be worse than what we have now!

Oh... Chunks are 16x16? Not 32x32? Then... This map is way smaller than I thought it was.
It has a surface area of only 17,920,000 square meters, which is smaller than Belgium's.
However, each chunk still contains twenty-five pixels. Meaning, each pixel contains ten blocks.

a chunk is 16x16, or 256 blocks of surface area. 256*70,000 = 17920000 m^2, or a 4233km per side. That doesn't make any sense with those rivers.
The river is approxamately 20 to 30 blocks wide. the river is approxamately 3 or 4 pixels wide. This gives a scale of roughly 7 blocks per pixel. The image is 1765x994, , which means it is 12.3kmx6.9km, for a surface area of 85 km^2.
the entire island is approxamately 7 km long by those measurements. The 7km line I drew across the island passed through 5 biomes, giving the approxamate distance across a boime to be 1.4 km
These numbers are surely off, but even if I am off by a factor of 2, that is still 700 block wide biomes.

Less, actually, not more. I want swimming stamina, and armor encumbrance relating to it and running, to emphasize the usage of minecarts and boats and lightweight armors for mobility.
Of course Mystify beat me, OF COURSE. :tongue.gif:
I don't know if we need more types of transportation. If you space powered rails correctly, you can already travel pretty fast, and if you construct bridges, they can go over water. For places that are TOO far away, we could always use the Nether. However, if Notch decides to implement oceans as pictured, they may pose a problem. Perhaps boats need to be revamped?
Could be interesting. The downside though of giant biomes is that you could start out inside a desert, and travel about a day just to find a tree. Then of course, once you find your tree, that friendly creeper could come "assist" you in cutting it down. Hurray!

Not with the mega-biome system.
In an arid region, you could find elements from plain and savannah biomes, as well as the desert biome.
I am certain that trees would be scarcer than in the other mega-biomes, but not to a frustrating extent.

Indeed so. What I was thinking, is that he would add desert oasis mini biomes. Or better yet, underground trees and jungles.

So do I. I had it up for a half of a day and it has 5 pages.

I know, I was just saying :tongue.gif: and how big exactly is a chunk?
"Stay classy, my friends"
16 blocks x 16 blocks x and z.
Refer to my post. It is two above yours.

Look for the picture of rivers, then look at the generation map, compare size of river to rivers on map approximate width. Great success.
