Edit of the edit: Tables in 1.8, yepp. You can all check for yourself. I hope everyone likes my suggestion, and.. have fun with it! :biggrin.gif:
BREAKING NEWS! Notch has used the "table" in his newest creaton, the NPC villages! A table was seen inside one of the houses in the village! I am not sure when, but it's in video from 1.8! ..
I feel proud .. ^^
Edit: Thanks for all the "reputation", that is very nice of you people. Also, thanks for the great "feedback".
True story, Tables will come in MC version 1.8! I had a quick chat with Jeb, and he thought it would be a good idea.
There will be NO CRAFTING RECIPE, the only thing you need to do is place a fence, then a wooden pressure plate over it.
Here is an example:
The pack(s) can be found here, the one in the picture can be found here

And, here is the chat-log between me and Jeb:
17:12 KrisEike Hello jeb, i have a quick suggestion for Minecraft, do you have time to hear it? =)
17:12 KrisEike Will only take about 10 seconds. ^^
17:15 KrisEike I've tried to get in contact with you/Notch on twitter, but never succeded.
17:15 jeb wazup=
17:15 jeb ?
17:15 KrisEike Well.
17:16 KrisEike You know people say they want things like a table in MC
17:16 KrisEike And a chair
17:16 KrisEike I know of a rather easy way to add a table
17:16 KrisEike Just make it possible to place a pressure plate ON TOP of a fence
17:16 KrisEike It will make a perfect looking table. ^^
17:16 KrisEike I can give you a picture if you'd like it. =)
17:16 jeb sure
17:16 jeb i'll change it right away
17:16 KrisEike Seriously? O_o
17:17 KrisEike That was quick.
17:17 KrisEike I'll grab a quick picture for you while at it too. ^^
17:20 KrisEike Here you go jeb http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20941701/Pictures/jeb.png
17:20 jeb yep i understood
17:20 KrisEike It's possible to make it with the WorldEdit plugin.
17:20 KrisEike Cool, and you will add it?
17:20 jeb i already did
17:21 KrisEike Dude, that's awesome
17:21 KrisEike Thank you so much! ^^
17:22 KrisEike So, this will arrive in 1.8, yes?
17:22 jeb yeah
17:22 KrisEike Ok, thanks!
Yay for tables!
Edit: Here is picture of another conversation we had, where he again confirms that the table will be in 1.8.
Known about the "Table"
- You will NOT be able to place an block directly ON the table, as it is 2 blocks high. You can however, place a block on the third height of the table, like this:
However, you cannot place the block directly onto the table, you need to place it like this:
Tl:dr, the table is 2 blocks high, and you can't place a block on the table, just OVER it.
But what's the point? Ok it's a cool decoration, but are we going to be able to put things on the table like in the shelves mod?
No, sorry =/
The reason jeb did this, is because it was so easy to do, just allowing pressute plates on top of fences, and voilà, a proper table. You can of course place an item over the table, but it will hover over it :S
At first I was like:
Urgh, another thing that will just remove creativity from minecraft?
Then when I saw that you actually had to be creative and make it yourself, I was like :biggrin.gif:
I think this is great now, It will also make some cool platforms in adventure maps and stuff.
That's a good idea actually.. Hope it works out for ya! You can test it early by using the WorldEdit mod/plugin and placing 1 fence, then a random block over it. Mark the random block, and type /set woodpressureplate or something like that. It'll be come a table. :happy.gif:
Yay for tables I guess. The only problem I have is that it can't be used for anything, ya know? I get that it is strictly decorative but it would be nict to be able to put something on it without it floating at the block above.
