These Endermen look like they could be terrifying depending on their hostility. The fact that they are all black will make it especially creepy when one sneaks up on you. I am so damn excited for this update... I am so glad Notch is aggressively adding tons of new content.
On another note, I find myself so excited for the update, the current vanilla Minecraft just isn't doing it for me... I keep wanting to see something new but it's just the same game... 1.8 will really add hours and hours of fun for me.

Try adding the Millenaire mod temporarily, it adds tons of fun :smile.gif:
1. Pigmen
2. Goblins
3. Endermen (a lot on these guys)
1. Pigmen
Pigmen would be a primitive tribe-like people. Different villages would be made out of materials like logs and planks, with tribes in certain areas being hostile to ones in other areas. If the player gives them supplies or resources, they tend to add cobblestone or stone additions to their villages. Any quests from the Pigmen generally involve destroying enemy villages, gathering materials, or possibly eradicating a nuisance (infestation of silverfish! the creeper hive!) When the alliance between the player and the pigmen villages gets to a certain level, the pigmen would leave gifts of chests with some items like iron, logs, or pumpkins and fish near the player's house (determined by the location of the home bed.) Unlike what other people may have suggested, Pigmen view their lesser cousins as scum, and will not care if the player harms pigs.
Default Behavior: Friendly
2. Goblins
Goblins would be similar to the Pigmen. Large goblin establishments would be made in wooded areas or underground (possibly both, if the village is large enough) of several different tiers of Goblins (warrior, chief, shaman.) Goblins would be the most expansive species, constantly trying to enlarge their area by conquering enemy Goblin or Pigman towns.
As a battle-savvy species, any quests from the Goblins would primarily involve killing stuff, or perhaps retrieving loot from a dungeon or dragon's lair (if added.) Although generally hostile to each other, it should be possible to get Pigmen and Goblins to work together. Once the "friendliness" level is high enough, the player could recruit Goblins to fight for him.
Default Behavior: Neutral
3. Endermen
Endermen would be shadowy, reclusive creatures. Making small colonies under huge ledges or in the side of cliffs, they would not be seen at all during daylight. At night, they would go around and gather resources. The Endermen would also occasionally build small landmarks around their territory (~6 chunks of their base.) Imagine going out one day and finding a small little pyramid of stone in a field near your house... chilling. The Endermen generally wouldn't stay in one place for too long, so by the time you get the supplies (and courage) to go look for their home, they would have already migrated, leaving only remnants behind.
Endermen themselves, however, do not like humans. These creatures of darkness are able to teleport into any dark area within 20 blocks around them if they are standing in one themselves. This means they can fade away as you turn around a corner or suddenly disappear as they are on low health. Fighting them in their natural habitat would be hell, as you can imagine, so it would be a common strategy to force them into lit areas (they wouldn't dumbly follow the player into light like zombies.)
The only way to befriend them is to give them what they like best: souls. When placing a certain amount of Soul Sand (around 100 total) near their home, if the player is not around they will come out and collect it. Note: it must be in gradual increments of 5-10 at a time! Each block raises their alliance slightly. If finally befriended, the Endermen would occasionally assist the player in various ways. You might be exploring a cave, and suddenly an Enderman teleports in front of you, scaring you out of your wits for a few seconds. It quickly slides over the ground before stopping at a certain point in the cave floor, and points down. You dig at the indicated area, and find several blocks of gold ore! As you climb out of the pit, anxious to find more, you realize that the Enderman is gone.
Default Behavior: Hostile
That is really well thought, I'd love to have NPC villages like that. =D
They should act like the boos from mario; only attacking when you're not looking at them.
or the exact same concept, just like the angels from Doctor Who. Now if that isn't scary then I don't know what is. That episode gave me the freaking creeps.

Its fun how you think that name makes "more sense" even though we currently know very little about the Endermen... Who said they are from the farlands? Maybe they are from the Nether or maybe they are aliens? Only Team Notch knows right now!
Actually I was saying it would make more sense to reference something IN minecraft instead of something completely unrelated.
I know you guys will defend notch no matter what, but think about it for a second before you post please.

I personally don't agree with the name. I like Enderman as it has a very creepy feeling to it. Calling the farlanders makes me think of a merchant from Fallout 3, not very creepy if you ask me.
We'll see in the end I suppose.

I am Atheist.
I moderate these forums as much as I can despite not being a moderator.
I strongly support:
Better clouds
Natural Disasters
More uses for The Nether
- It is a passive unless provoked mob.
- It spawns only at night.
- It burns when in contact with sunlight.
- It can pick up 1 block from the terrain within a small radius of itself.
- It collects specific materials (sand, dirt, gravel, blocks that yield an item when broken?)
- It uses the collected materials to build a shelter which it stays in come daytime (usually in open areas).
- If it cannot complete the shelter in time, it will seek cover under trees or hide in caves.
- Attacking or disrupting Endermen from their shelter building will cause them to retaliate.
- If an Enderman has a block in its hands, it will turn into an item when you kill it.
That's it for now, it's always fun to speculate :smile.gif:
please mighty :iapprove:, PLEASEEEEEEEE, I BEG YOU !!! MAKE ENDERMAN ONLY VILLAGES !!!!!
in all seriusness tho, enderman villages would be AWESOME, think about it, they can already move blocks so why they can't have their own villages and communitys? maybe they could live in some sort of dark castle or things like that
Thank you for lighting that up, 12sea21.
In this picture, I see:
1.an enderman holding a sand block and one holding a grass block
2.a giant mushroom (on the right)
3.if you look to the right of the mushroom, there is water that looks like it is lifted into the air (moving water blocks?)
These new mobs look very scary. :ohmy.gif:
I think that 'giant mushroom' is a tree. :happy.gif:

If you want to look at it with no logic and in the most convoluted way possible... yes.
So wait, you are saying the name is now changed because it sounds better to you, when it has been officially stated by notch what the name will be?
o.O
That is really well thought, I'd love to have NPC villages like that. =D
I think you are reading to much into the "it's official". That was more of a joke.
But It's not just me who likes the name, it's everyone on the board where minecraft started gaining it's popularity, /v/.
It unanimous that farlanders makes much more sense and is a better name there. So it's not just me.

This. This is the best idea.

Back in my day, sheep dropped brown mushrooms, and by golly we... Hated it, pretty much.
...
Except that it isn't, he didn't, and we won't; but yeah.

I think we should start a petition. Also included would be the addition of beets and quails :biggrin.gif:
