The game is a fantasy game first and foremost. That's why we have enchanting tables, Brewing stands, Golems, Ect. That's all magic. Hell, The experience might as well be magical life force oozing out of creatures. Technology would have to be fantasy based, At least in the main game. Pull systems? Yes. That would fit in a fantasy setting. Cars? No, Not really.
I think we will be getting flying boats before any sort of "Normal" machine.
Suggestions used to be bashed constantly because "It's too advanced for Minecraft!" which is now invalid.
I think Jeb may be open to more techie stuff than Notch. Notch was pretty staunchly against things that were too technical, but Jeb may be a bit more open.
As far as this whole technology vs magic discussion goes:
I think they're powered by manipulating symbols in a mysterious language known only as "Java," running on strange machines powered by tiny particles some people have come to call "electrons." The behavior of these particles as described by those who know their secrets is baffling: They exist both as waves and particles simultaneously, and they mysteriously store energy as they orbit other particles known as "protons" and "neutrons." And even the orbits are mysterious, as they do not truly orbit - they merely appear in places in their orbitals with varying probabilities.
These "electrons" are transported though mysterious pipes known as "wires" which are solid metal, with no hole in the center. By arranging these pipes into complex configurations, they create devices that are capable of reading the language known as "Java" and via the manipulation of symbols in this language, the golems animate and move in ways only those who study the archaic language of Java know of.
Most certainly magic.

Minecraft has gravity, Minecraft has collisions, Minecraft has momentum, Minecraft at least seems to have the law of conservation of mass (except under certain glitches that cause item duplication).
That conservation of mass thing is false. You can create cobblestone from eternally replenishing water and lava and explosions have a chance of completely obliterating materials. Those are not glitches. Also, Minecraft's gravity is selective...not universal. Explain that away.
The redstone torch just takes a VERY long time to burn out. Switches function like a redstone torch but can be turned off.
First, switches by themselves can and will always supply power so long as they are on. How is that scientific and not break conservation of energy? You even explain torches has acting as a circuit with a voltage source and a capacitor. Yet wouldn't the internal current eventually become so small that the light would just die off eventually? A redstone torch, left on its own doesn't burn out barring glitches. It will always be lit. It is therefore magic.
But explanations on how things "work" in Minecraft are moot because it is a video game.
Back on topic...I feel that Iron Golems don't open any doors to advancement that weren't opened when the Snow Golems were put in. They just feel more blatantly technological because they're made of iron and actually look humanoid (Testificoid?). Personally, I'm fine with things like pulleys, water wheels, nozzles, diffusers, and hand pumps (including piping) being added to Minecraft.
Anything else that I'd find in my schools engineering build would not be acceptable in my eyes. No computers, fluorescent lighting, no toilets, sink faucets, electric pumps, turbines, cooling systems, engines, etc. Of course, if the the later things I'd rather not have could be added in such a way as to keep with the Minecraft technological level (basically be magic like furnaces) then I'd have no problem.

As I see it, redstone is compressed and aged material that either contains energy of lava(since it's red and is near that layer) or it's just stored energy of some kind.
Basically a red energized version of coal..
Torches stay on forever simply because it's a videogame.
Onto iron golems, it's voodoo magic, what else do I have to say?
Redstone deals with energy transfer, so I call it tech, golems deal with bringing things to life with a creepy pumpkin, I call that magic.

No, Its the pumpkins! They contain the souls of dead players! That's why they can make golems!

--So your saying when wars are waged, after people die, their bodies decompose in the soil and create patches of pumpkins which in turn harness the remainder of a soul until they are plucked from the earth and place upon a vessel in which they grow around and control?
Cool.
It's not magic, it's not voodoo, it's not tech, it's PARASITISM.
E.G YOU CRAFT IT AND YOU PUT IT DOWN IN 1 POSITION AND THEN IN ANOTHER THUS CREATING A PORTAL YOU RUN INTO IT AT 88 MPH WHICH WILL BREAK THE TIMES SPHERE CREATING ANOTHER CLONE OF YOU IN THE OTHER PORTAL
Redstone is Minecraft equivalent of copper. Umad? U jelly? And laws of physics dont work very good in minecraft because it would lag like a crap bag being dragged on the sidewalk.
OKAY GUYS. You have gone WAY off-topic. At least post something related in your posts.
On topic:
I'd like to see trains, or some other movable vehicle that does not run on tracks. A sled pulled by wolves, even.
Also, a flying mount or machine, like an airship could work too. Heck, even flying boots, as an upgrade to featherfall?
Elevators, maybe magical or technical, whichever is fine, that do not require complicated redstone work. Like a storage minecart attached to an normal one somehow, and the storage one will be the weight to pull the other up. Something like that.
I can't think of much more, but I'm sure there are plenty others.
I would be quite happy with some primitive fire arms that say did a bit more damage but were slower* to fire than the bow. With two or more "ammo" types Musket ball and Scatter Shot. Obviously the Musket ball would be much higher damage to a single target and Scatter shot would do less damage but with a cone of effect over multiple targets. The possible drawback being the noise attracting nearby mobs or causing nearby animals to flee.
1)Yeah you dispatched two zombies at close range with the scatter shot, but now two nearby zombies and a skelly are aware of you and making their way towards (I might even go as far as saying it could temporarily increase mobs spawn rates).
2)Yeah you one shotted a Cow from half the plains away with a good musket round, but now all the cows near it are panicked/fleeing, so they have become harder to hit. Still rewarding but the arrow or Sword still rank better for "quick" hunting.
*Assuming it was loaded your first shot would actually be much faster than the bow after that probably a second or so of reload animation. We are of course essentially talking pre-cartridge, black powder weapons.
actual mountable canons would also be cool, something you could place say on the top of your fortress and use for a more long range active defense. Possibly use a similar script to the fishing line and instead of having it draw a strait line, have it show the curve of the projectile so they would be somewhat easier to use. I mean people can build TNT cannons now but they are hardly optimal (tho they are neat).
(Edit) Ooooh Also a Spy glass, would be a great use for some glass panes, wood and Iron. Being able to see things in the far off distance priceless ^^

Time to play the 1812 overture..
Primitive guns would be tacky and be rather pointless, I don't care what you say. lol
It's really hard to think of anything new they would add technologically, I really doubt they would add things like hot-air balloons and wagons..
If they do add any more tech, it would probably redstone related, like a clock pulser.

Tacky no, pointless possibly but they would add some variety. I would actually sorta consider them the natural progression of ranged weapons, much like the progression of Swords using more advanced materials. Would also add in a bit of mob variety, slightly rare Gun Skellies FTW! but to each their own I guess.
Speaking of Mob variety I would also love to see some sword Skellies. Maybe some in rudimentary armor here and there but I digress.
Will say that I would be happy as a pig in slop for the addition of any more redstone fun :smile.gif:

Flying would be overpowered, but an elevator or sled work quite well. Balanced, and useful.

Scatter shot is overpowered in the way that you most probably can dispatch most enemies before the others can see you.
The musket can make nearby mobs have a 50% increase in speed for some seconds. That would be useful, for example, to kill a creeper surrounded by skellies. You'll have a harder time killing the skeletons, but at least you won't blow up.
Good ideas people, thanks for staying on topic :smile.gif:
I mean, it would only replace the 'W'-key(this is why powered minecarts are logical, you can't use 'W' in a minecart).
No, they're the opposite of logical, because they can't actually push minecarts that have players in them.
Their only uses would be to push minecarts with mobs in them, or trigger detector rails, or push storage minecarts. All three of those can be accomplished with powered rails, which can also transport players, unlike powered minecarts... So yeah, useless.
