It seems everyone's preoccupied with the iron factory you can make out of them. Sure, that's a cool exploit, but I think there's a lot more for the sake of fun that could be done with them.
Migrate a group of villagers to your base, make them a home (or, encapsulate them if you don't want to deal with the upkeep), and now you have respawning golems to protect your home, and an added bonus of zombie sieges to have fun with.
Spend countless hours setting up a tower-defense scenario via angry zombies and wandering iron golems. Despite it perhaps getting old after a while, it'll never be un-cool.
Anyone else have some fancier plans for these new steel buddies?
I was thinking, "Hey, I'll craft an iron golem whenever I have extra iron and I need help," but I never thought about living in a commune for infinite golem spawn. This new feature has so many exploits it's crazy. lol
But really though, I would play survival and just craft them regularly when I need the help, I wouldn't 'cheat'.
This is a very minor issue, but I think that the Testificates should visibly take time to build iron golems.
It wouldn't have to ACTUALLY take more time than it does now, but I want to see how the Testificates do it.
I thought this was a more interesting topic, but apparently nobody else did. It wasn't one of the 3 simultaneous posts going "oh, look! I made an iron factory, I'm the first!" before seeing the countless others.

Nobody cares about things that are actually fun and dynamic.
They just want to grind grind grind collect collect collect speed speed speed efficiency!
Who cares if it's devoid of ingenuity and breaks the game? It's fast, it's slick, it's new.
I'm not sure if the Golems spawn can be controlled of if they are based on where villages appear with the world generation. It would be cool to do that though. If it works I'm making "Zombies must die"
They spawn in groups of villagers. The villager's presence is what spawns them, and it has nothing to do with the world generation of villages or their buildings. Heck, buildings can be completely mowed down, and you can replace them, and as long as they have doors, the villagers even treat them the same.
Everything seems to be based around the villager mob, not the world itself.
I had thought of doing something similar, except I was going to keep the golems trapped in a piston or iron door locked room and release them at just the right moment to save the day...well, night.

SPAAAAAAAAAAAACE!
"Look at me still talking when there's science to do. When I look out there it makes me glad I'm not you."
For a few months I have been building a town and castle in my world. Once villager breeding was added I used InvEdit to get some villager spawn eggs and populate it. There are golems wandering around my city now and for some reason they like to stand on the wall above the gate. It used to feel so empty with just me and a couple dogs in a place that big. Now it seems a lot more like a city.
I think it'd be useful to keep a single iron golem in a cage in the middle of your base. When danger looms, you pull two switches on a wall, releasing the iron golem. Once it's all dealt with, you figure out how to get the thing to stand in its cage again.
Villagers schmillagers.

Make note: I generally avoid being insulting. If I sound insulting, I'm probably joking.
Iron Golems can be handy in a cave too, especially if you find a couple of dungeons close to each other. The mobs literally tended to collect in a mob at a low part of the cave. You may not get XP, but can gather a regular collection of drops. Although, arrows may eventually take them out, because one time I went down there and found 4 iron bars on the floor (he was gone).

You can breed them easily.
Reminds me of a comic I used to read...
