For the record I wouldn't mind seeing a few more Strongholds I just don't think an infinite amount of them is appropriate. I don't have any particular opinion on the new amount of them though.

Fighting ignorance and false information one post at a time.
For the record if I correct you it's not meant maliciously, but if you whine about it I AM laughing at you.
Actually, seeing the stronghold's current use, maybe they should be only 1 per world. I mean, this is beating the game we're talking about here. Multiple strongholds would make it too easy.
Unless there's only 1 End Portal per world. Then I'd be in favor of multiple strongholds.
But the first thing Jeb needs to do with strongholds is fix their generation, add spawners, and add more chests with better loot. Right now, strongholds are very torn up by other structures, and they feel more like an ordinary maze than a real dungeon. They were very disappointing when I first explored one in 1.8.

Oh, yeah...... Didn't think about that. The End isn't worth experiencing. Thanks for reminding me.

Strongholds are perfectly fine for me, except for the fact that silverfish do jump damage and not frontal.
It would be a problem if there was infinite because:
*Kill first dragon
*Collect tons of enderpearls
*Collect tons of blaze powder
*ransack the other stronghold trios with your large stack of eye of ender
Basically it would be a tsunami effect. After you enter the first end, it would be easy to find more.
Either they keep it to 3 and let egg incubation reset the dragon, spread out the stronghold trios about 7km apart, or they lower the dragon exp to 30 levels. A combination of these would work nice.

My question is: How is it that a bad thing, that the player can find more?
Did they originally spawn infinitely? I remember the community being in an uproar that since there was only one they were too hard to find. Maybe I am wrong though and it was the opposite. Refresh me!
The community bitched about abandoned mineshafts, and honestly rightfully so. When 1.8 came out, digging down from spawn had an 80% chance of hitting a mineshaft.
Strongholds started off at 1 (being placed randomly around 500-1000 blocks away from spawn). In one of the pre-releases, it got bumped up to 3 (where the three are spaced with equal angles (120º), but still had the varied 500-1000 block distance from spawn) per world.
What I have yet to see is a surface stronghold. There was a screenshot released by Notch before 1.8 came out showing off a Mushroom Biome with a stronghold poking out of the surface.

Yeah, I haven't seen them either. It sure would make my mc life easier!

I saw one once. But it's just the result of the random generation, anything can happen.
(sorry, can't give seed, it was at 1.9.5 and I deleted the world)

Except it's not really beating the game.

I actually avoid exploring on SMP because I don't think I'd appreciate discovering a stronghold as much as someone else would.
