Do you believe Skyrim is a RPG? if so you believe MC is as well both have the same RPG elements.
Once again, another one assuming they know what makes an RPG.
Lets point out some differences first
Minecraft :
- completely free gameplay, no missions.
- Sandbox with a mix of some other elements.
- The player only suffers from " outer evolution ".
Skyrim :
- open-world, but a set of missions that should be completed at some time.
- RPG, with probably a mix of other elements.
- The player suffers from both inner and outer evolution.
If you want you can make list of similitudes, but i will not waste my time and i will go the point.
What defines an RPG is the " inner evolution " of the playing in its trajectory to complete a main goal , in Skyrim the main goal is more than obvius, in Minecraft there is no main goal, some consider it beating the EnderDragon, but that people are wrong.
Now, lets explain some stuff
Inner evolution of the player ( present in skyrim, not in minecraft ) : It appears in every RPG, as the game progresses a system that is commonly referenced as " leveling ", when the player has the abbility to " train " or choose one of his abbilities and increase them depending on what they want.
outer evolution of the player ( present in skyrim and in minecraft ) : It appears in almost all games, even in those like CoD but do very little in gameplay depending on the game, the player can acquire weapons that can virtually affect stats, but only when wearing or using an item, a sword for example virtually improves damage.

Ironically enough it is those people who usually wind up starting these things up - claiming that Minecraft is a linear RPG with a singular goal of getting full diamond and killing the dragon. That's not so much the case here from what I can see, but this may be an example of pushing back against a perceived vocal group in disagreement with the OP, which he or she may have seen in another similar thread as the fires from that war slowly die.
While it is in some sense an RPG-lite, or RPG-esque sandbox game, it is far from your standard linear RPG and I would make the case that these people have very limited imaginations... mind you, these arguments are completely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things as the developers will do whatever they feel like doing, regardless of what we end up deciding Minecraft is.
Heck, I only drop in on these things nowadays because I'm really bored, and in all honesty the new content coming out of Mojang hasn't really interested me since pistons. I've instead been anticipating more stuff out of technical mods like Redpower 2 (because I'm more interested in building overly complicated machines than taming cats or watching squidwards breed - personal preference, nothing more).
Minecraft is no more an RPG than it was before. You are a person trying to survive when faced with suicide shrubs and angry piles of jello. Throwing in a dragon and some enchantments doesn't change that.
I think the whole point of this thread is not to say whether Minecraft's turning into an RPG or has always been an RPG etc. I think the main point everyone is trying to say is: Has the game gotten worse as time went by?
> implying minecraft becomeing a RPG is a bad thing.
Minecraft has RPG ELEMENTS but it's a game were you can do anything withen thr limits of your computer and imgainenation.
so in other words, minecraft could be classed as a action, adventure, zombie survival, rpg, mmo, pvp, fps, puzzle, building, dungeon crawling, createive, platformer.

RPGs have a main goal, and inner evolution.
Minecraft lacks both of those things.
Conclusion : your argument is invalid.

Gaming, history, science and technology enthusiast. Don't mind my cynicism.
STOP PLAYING IT.
I'll go play any other game, then complain that I can't do anything I want. Damn you MC for being everything and more!!
Idling on the main menu screen of many games causes the credits to show.
Therefore, the goal of many games is to idle on the main menu screen.
Prove me wrong, good sir.
For me, the simple answer is: No.

BUT PEOPLE DON'T CALL IT THOSE DO THEY?
Think before you post.
