SO THE NEW UPDATE MAKES ZOMBIES GRIEFERS? So.. I was testing out a few features they had mentioned were going to be added. (First one I was excited about was the zombies breaking down doors.) So I turned it on hard mode, ran out and built my house. I left to get wood before it was night. I came back and the sun had just came down, So I ran to my house and my door was just sitting on the ground... So it was a zombie! I had saw a zombie a little far back. So Zombies = Griefers? Alright, So maybe the zombies should chase the person and then break down the door if the player is on the other side. I don't think having zombies break down doors on-sight is not cool. The door breaks, and it disappears? I'd be out 12 wood? :sad.gif: (It's not that much but it's the principle.)
Hope you took the time to read it! Let me know what you think and post a reply.
EDIT : Since I've been getting replies from people saying "Just use an Iron Door" Or "Just turn it off hard-mode" I like hard mode, It adds more difficulty, And like Marfagames said, What if I built a city, a zombie takes away the doors because it is in-sight. I don't want to go around collecting wood to put it back. Anyway what's next? Skeletons shooting exploding arrows? I also agree with Smuck "I don't see the problem of zombies being able to knock down doors. But, I don't think they should do it if they don't see you." I love that they can destroy it, Just not without them seeing you. Question : If you put a pressure plate infront of your door, It will make it easier to go in, but can a zombie destroy an open door? So I tested it and they won't destroy an open one. and when ever they walk on it it opens but they can come inside. Opinions?
So I turned it on hard mode, ran out and built my house.
Notice how you had to turn it to hard mode.
Don't like zombie griefing? Stay on normal.
I'm thinking that griefing-like behaviors should be for hard mode. It is, after all, meant to be hard. Maybe they should crank up Endermen griefing in hard mode as well .
The door breaks, and it disappears?
No, actually. It just pops off as an item you can collect. Just kill the zombie, pick up the door, and replace it.

This is pretty much everything I was going to say. (out of rep)
instead of facing the doorway and placing the door, stand in the doorway with your back to the right side (as if you were facing the door) and then place the door. This door will appear closed when open and zombies cannot break it.

Except that he is not complaining about zombies breaking down doors, just breaking down doors for no reason, while he isn't even there, and losing the door.
I think he makes a fair point. Zombies should only break down doors when they are trying to pathfind through it to get to you or a villager. Otherwise they should just treat it as a wall (when it's closed).
just breaking down doors for no reason, while he isn't even there, and losing the door.
Which will take two blocks from the nearest tree to fix.
Of course when you find that happening, it's probably a good idea to pull out your sword, as with this new AI to avoid sunlight most mobs will venture inside your now open house when the daylight comes .
Actually, now that I think of it, that behavior is fine for hard mode.

Yes, because apparently one is not able to question the perfect, sacrosanct decision making, and must just accept any and every new idea without question. One can not even simply point out that in it's current form, it's less than ideal, since zombies just bum rush any door on sight, and it's not based on chasing down an active player.
Which will take two blocks from the nearest tree to fix.
Christ.. that is no justification for the current implementation to be considered perfect and without fault.
It's like you guys don't even realize how sycophantish/fanboyish it is to just defend any thing and everything. They couldn't possibly have made mistakes or bad decisions in how they implemented it?
It's not intentional. I don't know why people don't realize that it's a snapshot. They are still testing the door breaking mechanics. Zombies wont break any door they can see in the final release. That would be ridiculous.
If you dislike having zombies break down your doors, you want to turn the difficulty to Normal or lower...the Hard difficulty is where the zombies break down doors.
It's not like zombies are just targeting random doors to break down. It's more like when mobs use ladders...they don't really mean to, but if it's in their path they'll unintentionally use it.
What I've noticed is that zombies don't seem to see doors as barriers anymore. So if their pathfinding chooses a spot inside a house while they're randomly wandering, they'll press up against the door thinking nothing's there. 10 seconds later, the door is gone.
I do see this as buggy behavior though. They should really only break down doors when aggro'd.

I whole heartedly agree with this statement. Having zombies break down your door while you are nowhere nearby is rather annoying (similar to if creepers blew up for no good reason, but much less extreme) and it should be changed to have them only do it when they are aggro'd by the player or within a certain proximity of the player.

When no one was looking, the Endermen took forty blocks.
They took 40 blocks. That’s as many as four tens. And that’s horrible.

You.
You are the only one with logic I have seen so far on this forum.
Thank you for saying what I've wanted to say to every single person who defends zombies breaking doors with no real argument or reason that it needs to be exactly like it is now.
I honestly do not see any issues with the zombies now I am by my no means a MC fanboy they break down doors they add something to the game making it more challenging on hard and even on normal down trying to escape = damage. It ADDs something to the game period it doesn't take away anything it adds.
Use metal doors if you want secure doors a wood door is 6 blocks of wood I hope you can punch 2 trunks and get that back if oyu happen to loose said door. Mobs do not stay around forever they despawn if your not in the chunk if by the rare chance they do break through a door when your not looking at you you can easily replace it with 6 planks of wood.
As stated this is turning into more of a endermen fiasco again. Of course I didn't have issues with endermen picking up blocks various people did I don't know why I am a picky MC builder I want things to look like they are built to with structure/support do not support flaoty houses and the like but a tree every now and then that was due to me being in that chunk having a missing wood didn't bother me.
All of these zombie threads and the whine it has in it and MC forums has had for a quite a long time is to be expected people hate change even if they themselves do not have any argument other then "OMG ITS NEW AND I DIDN"T SUGGEST GET RID OF IT" so please shut the hell up there is absolutely no issues with zombies breaking down doors as they do now. They don't see you? O well if you were searching for food would you look in a house with a door ya and if your close (pretty much in the chunk of they will just despawn) you can hear them taking down the door unless you have sound off which is your choice and confront the zombies and stopping them before they ambush you.

People complain about the most asinine things on this forum. Especially when you can fix the problem by not playing on hard.
