I don't agree with the Notch bashing, but I completely agree that Jeb & Jon are doing an outstanding job. Since they started implementing stuff, I've become excited about the game again.
If Notch didn't do it, someone would have eventually. If id didn't create the FPS genre by making Doom, someone else would have invented the genre. The same would have gone for Minecraft.
I'm making a very truthful statement. We don't need Notch anymore. Jeb is more than capable.
I gave you too much credit. That's some seriously 10 year old logic. Why give Jeb any love then? If he hadn't implemented all the cool things you like then someone else surely would have. Basically all humans are just automatons doing things that other people could have done.
Having said that, thanks to everyone at Mojang for this new obsession of mine.
My point is Notch's credit should only go so much. He got most of the ideas for Minecraft from other games. Anyone into gaming could have used seeds to create an infinitely expanding world. It's not something only Notch could have done. If Notch didn't do it, someone else would have since it was an untapped idea at least beyond what Infiniminer was concerned.
All notch did was combine several ideas from smaller games and combine them into a larger game for profit. I don't think he should be credited when he stole the mechanic from another game (infiniminer).

And all Jeb has done is add a few cool tweaks to the amazing infrastructure that Notch gave him to work with. Look, this could go on forever. Notch had to create this game for everyone not just you and your favorite ideas about how it should play. Obviously Notch failed to live up to your expectations and now you've got it out for him and you're acting like a spoiled brat. Why can't we just appreciate everyone involved in bringing us this game that we love?
Sorry if I've strayed from the original topic. Go ahead VileAssassin, have the last word.
Minecraft is awesome, even when he was coding it. I'm just saying he didn't help it grow AT all. He probably didn't know what the **** he was doing, just learning java as he went along while he was making Minecraft. We shouldn't be giving him credit when he was just coding buggy updates and only in late beta did he actually start coding without lots of bugs.
After Notch left Jeb was able to shine through by proving that he is superior to Notch coding wise. If Jeb had made Minecraft it would have been so much better than it is now, because Jeb is a much better coder than Notch is. Jeb can make decisions when Notch falters.
I'm giving Notch 0 credit for 1.1 and 1.2, because none of this **** would have happened if he was still coding and Jeb was still an underling.
The terrain generator has improved a lot, too. While I love the new biome system introduced in Beta 1.8, it was a bit dull for a little while there. But now, I have gobs of fun just seeing how my worlds turn out, like in the olden days (not to put Alpha on a pedestal like SOME people)! I hope that even more biomes and terrain features are implemented, especially now that they won't screw up old worlds.

yeah I completely agree, Jeb has made the game a lot better, It was a good decision for Notch to pass the torch to Jeb! But Notch created the game and so you gotta give some credit to the creator, its like I invented water but someone else turned it into pure water
man, what the hell were you doing adding all kind of extra useless **** to H20? Just take those two freaking Oxygen atoms and shove it next to a Hydrogen atom and call it a day. Damn... dont need to be adding **** to my water and ****.... smeh! :dry.gif:
I can't believe some people have the audacity to sit there and play Minecraft while insulting the man who created it just because he didn't meet their extremely specific development values.

What, and other people don't get ideas from other sources? What mechanic did he steal?

That doesn't make sense. Regardless of if there were bugs or not he still deserves credit for what he's accomplished. The man created and developed Minecraft, most of the game is literally by his hand. Jeb is only there because Notch hired him. Jeb is only doing what he's doing now because Notch put him in that position of control.
Agreed 100%. Not only have his efforts to make MC better are awesome so far, it shows that he can make it even better in the future, and there is always something that needs to be done. I can already see Jeb making the terrain generator better than the 1.7 generator. However, I have a bad feeling deep down that something will go wrong... But anyways, the two of them are doing an amazing job so far.

Thats true, but Doom was NOT the first FPS. I'm probably wrong, but I'm pretty sure wolfenstein 3D was the first one. Either way, I know for sure that wolfenstein came before Doom.
Someone probably would eventually make a minecraft clone, but I'm sure Notch is the only guy who would start it in 2009.
Jeb and Jon are doing exceedingly well with Minecraft right now. Especially with Jon working on A.I. and giving it the shot in the arm it needed to feel like an actual game.
Still waiting for the admin/moderators to implement my version of "I Agree" emoticon with Jeb though, make it happen - the man is simply amazing.

To be technical, neither of those games are the first FPS. But of the two, Wolfenstein 3D was the first.

Fighting ignorance and false information one post at a time.
For the record if I correct you it's not meant maliciously, but if you whine about it I AM laughing at you.
IKR? My question is... how do they add so many things at once with so few people? Sometimes I wonder if it's even humanly possible. lol
Well, for one thing, Jeb seems like a more focused developer than Notch.
For another, it sounds like he did a lot of stuff internally to the game to make it easier to add new stuff. For example, increasing the number of possible block IDs. Sometimes you do have to work things out internally for a while before you can make real gameplay progress again.

When all is said and done, Will you have said more than you have done?
How about the fact that it's both an assumption and a double-standard? It applies to Jeb as well, you know.
Can't wait to see where they take this game.
