The latest Snapshot no cave bug... Might actually be a good idea of sorts
Ok...so it JUST hit me.
We've had tons of threads and such about lowering the amount of caves to improve mob density and to make it a bit more time consuming to find iron.
Most of you know...The new snapshot has a bug where it generates a world with no caves. I was unaware until after I made a new world and began to play... After a few hours...it hit me.
What if when you first spawned, the area you were in had no caves?
Instead of starting up a new game and having iron by the first 30 minutes... You start in a area where there are no caves for a good long distance. Thus resulting in the player having to build up a good start home/base, build up some supplies like leather armor and food, and then venture on words in search of caves to gather ores and such.
It makes since in a way, since you can make charcoal and typically have tons of wood. It would kinda make the lower tier stuff more useful in the start since you would need to rely on them for a decent bit.
Now before I make a better suggestion worthy thread...I need to refine the idea. What do you all think of it?
Discuss!
Big questions
Should I make a suggestion for it?
How far away should the caves be?
Just give me a hand in refining this.
No, it's not a good idea.
All it does is take caves away from people who do like to explore them right away (or at all).
If I don't like caves, I can just not explore them or board them up (which I do, indeed, do). I'm not going to ask for caves to be removed because every cave that doesn't exist is a cave that can't be explored (not just by me, but by everyone. Even the people that love cave exploring.)
Removing caves would damage gameplay more than helping it.
Caves are not iron holes and you should take that in account, they are a fun experience, a vast dark area to explore.
However, if jeb some day decides to make a world option " No caves " then he should do it... but i wouldnt care, i dont think no one would use it as it would take a BIG part of the fun mining has.

I didn't mean remove every cave, I just meant in the "starter" area you spawn in. To, in a way, provide a reason for people to use low tier stuff for longer than 5 minutes. Traveling further out without at least a little bit of supplies would spell disaster.People...I didn't say remove every cave XD

SIGH. I have to make this clarification literally every time I say what I just said.
ANY cave that doesn't exist is a cave that can't be explored. At no point in my post did I imply that you asked for all caves to be removed.
If you ask for ANY caves to be removed, then that is one less cave for someone else to explore. You can simply choose not to enter those caves.
Besides, I don't want to use the starter stuff for more than five minutes, and I'm sure others agree.

No one wants to use start stuff for more than 5 minutes. That's the point. You want to get the good stuff, but you must work to get to it. It's more of a drive to get better. I see nothing wrong with this.
Telling someone not to use something, that's getting really old :/
My choice in the game, is not the point of this concept. It's the over all push of the game.
You know, when something that makes the game easier is added, people typically don't complain. But if you try to add something to make it harder, all hell breaks loose.
Right now, minecraft is this
Start - Use wood for about 5 minutes or less, get stone, find one cave, full suit of iron with on average less than 2 hours of play. Lower tier stuff becomes practically useless after an hour or 2.
The concept I'm talking about is...
Start - There are no caves near your area, you use what you do have around you to get started and build up some supplies, once you get to a decent stable point, you can then venture away from your starting area, in search of ore/cave rich lands. Once you reach these cave/ore normal lands you can continue your quest to get better.
No. Caves are a core aspect of Minecraft. Removing caves around spawn will just force people to stumble away for a minute and search around. Honestly, Locklear, you need your own thread dedicated to your 'suggestions'.
It's like you didn't even read it, or if you did, you didn't even attempt to give it any thought.
Wow people.

Technically somebody wouldn't actually have to venture away from their starting area to get the good stuff; they could just dig down to stone with a wooden shovel and then go from there. Once they get 3 cobblestone using their wooden pickaxe, they could start stockpiling stone tools and then keep digging down until they find iron, etc, etc.

I did read it and I gave an appropriate response. Are you delusional? This is a terrible idea, and it only functions as your personal benefit- this isn't a suggestion to actually make Minecraft better.

Yeah, you don't see anything wrong with that, but others might (and do). Spending more time using wooden tools doesn't make the game more difficult, only more tedious.
You know, when something that makes the game easier is added, people typically don't complain. But if you try to add something to make it harder, all hell breaks loose.
You should probably drop the "oh, you're one of them" mentality. Acting like a victim gets you nowhere.

If that's how you choose to play, then yes, that's what the game is. Not to mention two hours is a big time investment just to get iron armor. Also, that's how tiers are supposed to work. You get the better tier, and the lower tier becomes obsolete. Improvement.

If that sounds fun to you, you can do it without taking away other people's caves. You can just say "I'm not going to explore any caves unless I'm x distance from home".
You want to take my French fries because you don't like French fries.

This is how I play the game. I almost never go in caves.
As soon as I get my first pickaxe, I start digging a staircase straight down to bedrock.
You have the audacity to 'close' the thread just because people disagreed with you. Are you serious?

How the heck does this benefit my person? You completely missed the point :/ That's almost as bad as some of the people who were against my Difficulty Overhaul petition.
Nothing in this concept makes the game directly "better" for me, in anyway.

The ENTIRE game is tedious. All games all. That means we need to make diamond less rare because it's TOO tedious.

It seems that someone deleted your OP. I went ahead and quoted it in my first response so that others can still see it.
He deleted it, judging on the new wording of it (although I'm sure that you figured that out by now :tongue.gif:).

I agree the game should be harder but I'm not entirely sure this is the right way to go about it you know.. It would be fun to try once or twice but after that it'd just get annoying trying to find the boundry where caves actually start forming after you have your supplies. Then you gotta pack up and move. Don't let all the haters bother you man, well thought and written post.
I suggested the concept because I see tons and tons of people saying that leather is useless, along with some other things. As soon as you get iron, BAM every below that isn't any good. And we have tons of iron...
If Iron is going to remain the most useful (in terms of being in the middle) and it's going to stay plentiful. Then having a longer start to get to it, would decrease it's over shadowing of the other lower materials, at least for a little bit.

If this is indeed a perceivable issue, removing caves around spawn isn't the answer.

I appreciate that man. A lot. Your kind of post is what I was looking for, so that I could bounce ideas back and forth. It was not meant to be "This exact idea". That's why I like making these threads before I suggest something, to refine it.
Not be flamed by some others.

How...would...it be boring?
You make it sound like there wouldn't be caves.
It would be interesting to see how a player make better use of lower tier things in the start. Instead of being done with them in 5 minutes.
Minecraft isn't a game you play for 5 hours and then "beat". There's no reason for things to need to be "fast" and "right here right now"
It's like players don't know how to take time and just play a game.
