It's an obvious bug, but think about it - what if creepers always exploded upon death on Hardcore mode? Not only it would be more "hardcore", it would be a nice callback to Survival Test.
Not only is hardcore just as easy as hard(it's the same mode because it is stuck on it) but if it exploded it would be physically impossible for you to ever collect gunpowder. That would just be idiotic.

Thats what i said some posts ago =/ It would be a lose-lose situation if you want to face a creeper so it would be better to leave them alone or scare them.
I find one or two dungeons every world. I usually get about 3 piles of gunpowder from the mob and maybe 5 items of gunpowder from the chest. Simply put, I think there is no worse idea for this. :/

I usually do 1 hallway for a km to get 2stack iron, 30 gold/diamond and later possibly mine again. I don't really go for too many materials, but still, I don't see the point of creepers if they wouldn't drop items.
Even if you find 10 dungeos theres a very slight chance you get gunpowder out of it while you could get 0-2 from EACH kill, which can be like 10 a night. Your argument makes no sense.
To get a creeper to explode upon death is a VERY TRICKY manner and normally happens with hesitent players. So if you are a N00B and you are doing the "lets-dance-around-the-creeper" fight. It will eplode upon death.
So, in order to get a creeper to explode upon death you must first know the mechanism behind a creeper explosion. Creepers first "Charge" their explosion when they are close to the player for 1.5 seconds. "SSSSSSssssss" If you back away from the creeper before it finishes charging if will start to cool down. It takes the same amount of time for a creeper to cool down as it does charging.
So, if you let a creeper charge up, cool down, charge up, cool down charge up. After the third time of it charging up YOU ARE NOW IN DANGER OF IT EXPLODING AFTER DEATH
Then to get a creeper to explode after death you must kill the creeper late in it's third charge. The Creeper should detonate before, its death animation finishes.
*note* I did all my testing on HARDCORE MODE. I do not know if this persists with other modes.
I hope its not a bug because it makes creepers more frightening now.

You didn't have to explain is when the thread itself explains it fine.
Usually, if you kill a creeper during their sizzle sounds right before he detonates, the explosion is canceled. But now, if you kill a creeper during their sizzle, they will explode during their death animation from where their sizzle sound left off. I know this never happened before, anyone else get this?
Does anyone like this change? It sure does make fighting Creepers more thought taking than it was before if you are fighting in small areas where you can't get out of range in time, and try to kill them in time to stop the explosion. This seems a little too intentional to be a bug.
EDIT: To be more accurate, they do NOT do this after every death. Only when they're killed when they do that flashing and enlarging thing before explosion. So as long as the Creeper does not die while preparing an explosion, you're fine.

You don't because it's fixed in the latest snapshot.
