Usually, if you kill a creeper during their sizzle sounds right before he detonates, the explosion is canceled. But now, if you kill a creeper during their sizzle, they will explode during their death animation from where their sizzle sound left off. I know this never happened before, anyone else get this?
Does anyone like this change? It sure does make fighting Creepers more thought taking than it was before if you are fighting in small areas where you can't get out of range in time, and try to kill them in time to stop the explosion. This seems a little too intentional to be a bug.
EDIT: To be more accurate, they do NOT do this after every death. Only when they're killed when they do that flashing and enlarging thing before explosion. So as long as the Creeper does not die while preparing an explosion, you're fine.
I retract my previous statement. If you double-tap (like you should with all baddies), they won't detonate as they fall, but if you hesitate for little more than a moment, they'll do their new thing. I hope this isn't removed as a bug.
Considering that the cats' powers were to balance the new AI... I'm guessing this is a bug.
I am of the opinion that creepers should not explode after death.
I agree. Otherwise what would be the point of killing them if they are going to explode anyways and break everything... and besides that no loot. It would be easier to use cats to take them away and thats it, instead of killing them.
No no no, it's not after every death. It's ONLY if they were in "flash and enlarge mode" when they were killed, and ONLY if they had been doing that for a while. I've only had it happen once when I wasn't trying to do it. Most players bat Creepers away with their swords so they never get to "flash and enlarge mode", and other players just shoot Creepers with arrows. It doesn't affect gameplay much.

I know it's not every time, but once is too often for me.
I suppose I should just feel lucky I've never had it happen. I don't go creeper hunting very often though. I'm more of a "preventer".
It's an obvious bug, but think about it - what if creepers always exploded upon death on Hardcore mode? Not only it would be more "hardcore", it would be a nice callback to Survival Test.

Unrelated: planning on bringing back the discussion on the End Poem? Shame the thread got autolocked.
Shame. When Jeb took over we had a chance to show him the thread (unlike Notch, he'd listen), but it got locked. If I made another, some dumbasses would just say "Stop whining" :sad.gif:
Related: I'm all for hardcore mode being harder as all it really does for me is give me a different graphics for my health indicator. However, it should be made so that creepers still drop loot upon death. I mean, they are the only source of gunpowder. And record disks.
Ghasts also drop gunpowder. But that's not the point.
Maybe the drops in Hardcore were spawned after the explosion, to prevent destruction? May be hard to code, but I think Jeb would be able to do it in a week.

I think it's great. I just got blown up and died in a cave and laughed the entire walk back!
I'm all for making the creepers a bit more challenging in hardcore. They're a bit too simple to deal with, even without the use of a cat.
One feature that might be worth adding to their AI would be that when they begin their countdown they back off and try to maintain a bit of distance from you. Enough so to make it harder to hit them but not so much that you'd be out of the explosion's range.

Oh gods, hardcore is hard enough! Though I guess super flat makes it easier. Your inevitable fall to death after fighting mobs like a badass for days at least waits until you get to the nether :-D

Another thing ive noticed while i play is that sometimes creepers are "early exploders". Sometimes i see they start flashing and getting bloated, i step back and they explode anyways. Of course i dont take damage but they blow up everything and i have to clean that mess.
Its really annoying that they explode even if you are on sight but not in range of its attack. I think that aspect of its AI should be modified, i mean, its pointless if you are not going to get damage right?.Another thing ive noticed while i play is that sometimes creepers are "early exploders". Not much? Try playing on a low framerate computer.
Any computer with the following hardware should suffice, however, for an enjoyable experience, we suggest looking at the Recommended Requirements.
CPU : Intel P6/NetBurst Architecture or its AMD Equivalent (AMD K6)
RAM : 256MB
GPU : ATI Rage or GeForce 256 with OpenGL 1.2 Support
HDD : At least 90MB for Game Core and Sound Files
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 and up is required to be able to run the game.
Recommended Requirements :
CPU : Pentium Dual-Core or AMD Athlon 64 @1.6GHz
RAM : 1GB
GPU : GeForce FX or ATI Radeon 9xxx and Up with OpenGL 2 Support (Excluding Intergrated Chipsets)
HDD : 150MB
I've got a G4 (7450) 1.42 GHz (so my CPU is about 40% of recommended, and about 200% of minimum), 1 GB ram, Radeon 9550 mobility, an OS that supports open GL 1.3 (all that minecraft uses), and my frame rate is so low I have trouble with any mob that manages to close to range 0. I've had creepers seem to spawn on top of me and explode immediately.
Now consider what someone with the official minimum playable specs will see.
No, do not make the game so demanding on the user and system that it cannot be played on the officially supported hardware configuration. Otherwise, change the official support requirements.
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?

but you have to kill them pretty late into their hiss for it to happen.
- Bug
- Adding balance to the cats.
I bet it is the 2nd one, but meh...

Nooo do not want x(
Then play on easy-normal-hard, where they would act normally. Hardcore mode isn't as hard as it should, currently. My suggestion would make it harder.
