About what language do you speek, and add all those 50 languages.
And then only the TOP 10 languages will be added.
And then they will hire specialists in those languages to get a good translation, not a community-made one ( as there are thousand of trolls in here ).
For example, terraria was only translated to 5 languages.
And it is more than enough, as everyone in their community speaks atleast 1 of those languages.
Lets choose the most popular ones and add them correctly all the languages at the moment are a complete mess.
Well, they could do that or fix the ones we have now. Either way the languages need to be done right. I said they need to delete all the languages and just keep it english because I was getting fed up with all the posts talking about mistakes in the language threads. Deleting languages is going overboard but they need some better way of editing the languages.
This thread is horrible. Why any person would feel like language localization shouldn't exist is literally beyond my comprehension. You ungrateful assholes are lucky Mojang even made the game in English instead of Swedish. Have fun being ignorant your entire life.
How am I greateful when I bought the game? I'm not a freeloader.
I can still barely believe that Mojang actually asked the playerbase to translate the game for them. I can't imagine it would've cost much to get Minecraft's few text strings translated, and it's not like they're short of money.
I would still have played the crap out of this game if it were all in Swedish, or Martian for that matter.
So a few of the languages ended up getting trolled hard because some 9 year old attention seeking monkey decided to throw some feces.
And a few other language packs ended up bum because someone was lazy and used Google Translate or fake unicode-to-ASCII translator. Very sorry it was yours, whoever ended up with a bum language pack.
There are ways to go into your bin folder and edit the language packs. You can tinker with whatever you want and that's your personal fix. Or you could go to the site where all the great unwashed are collaborating on Mojang's packs. You could fix it and then pull Jeb's coattail to let him know he should use this one and close the pack to further changes.
There's a million zillion different ways things like this get messed up unless you pay money to have direct oversight over who, when, how, and where it's getting done. I think the public outsourcing of packs was cute at first, but blew back in their faces with a vengeance.
@ utilitarians who white knight the English language: Ethnic, national or cultural identity and pride is a basic human emotion. It's how people grow up and form their sense of self and is a founding pillar of a stable personality structure.
While having to use English to play a popular game is not going to make people around the world melt down in an identity crisis, it is a courtesy and gives free expression and additional creative space to players whose ethnic or national identity is not English or North American.
As such, it's important to get it right. What happened was a big gaffe. Next time hire people who have been vetted to have at least 2 brain cells to rub together, and are at least literate in the target language.
Once the flames have died out, I think we should return to the problem: Arabic language translation is almost impossible to read due to a lack of spaces. I dont think this can be done by translators, as the OP states it is not the spelling, but the spacing. Once Jeb is aware, I am fairly confident it goes to th to-do list.
While Mojang could have hired a bunch of translators, I think it was all right to do it by users instead. Most of the time it works out fine, and in case of failures this forum gets it pointed out. On the other hand, localization is not on the high priority list, so it might take a while to get the last bugs out of the system, especially when the language is not written in standard ASCII chars.
Because learning a second language to be able to communicate with the majority of your species is such a horrible thing and somehow erases your culture, right?
No, but saying that there shouldn't be any localization because "everyone speaks/should speak" English is wrong on a humanitarian level.
So you're saying it would be prejudice to account for the most common language and not my own? Why should game developers be wasting time on scriptures?
LET'S MAKE THE WHOLE ****ING GAME IN GALACTIC ALPHABET.
Yeah, what kind of self-respecting game developer loves money anyway?
Well yeah I have seen the Arabic translation and the truth to be told is.. .ITS HORRIBLE. Letters are de-localized. Arabic letters are not as simple as others, they have different forms depending where are they attached (Beginning, Middle, or End of a word). In the translation, the letters are written in the original segregated form even when they are combined. It looks terrible. However, I do understand the pain of perfecting the Arabic words and that's why I'd rather have them remove the Language if they can't fix it. I personally wouldn't play with Arabic anyway, I find English more suitable and flexible.
Some how i think language translation is fail some people cant do that translate job but they still do it caused many error in language it is pretty annoying if someone cant do it or griefed language pack
Anyone who disagrees with the ops statement and Yazman's argument is really ignorant. Its not a matter of "OH LETS MAKE MINECRAFT IN EVERY LANGUAGE PERFECT!" Its a matter that Minecraft itself and their developers voluntarily chose to put Arabic in the game, and they did a poor job of doing it. Sure it was community made mistakes, but it should certainly be fixed as much as the "YOU ARE A ****" problem. Seriously guys, have some respect for other languages. If you were in the OP's predicament, you would be frustrated that people are trying to make an argument against YOUR language being fixed. And that would be really, really insulting.
How am I greateful when I bought the game? I'm not a freeloader.
Minecraft was localized to market English speakers, if anything other languages are an elective.
Because everyone should forget their cultures and traditions and learn English for the sake of one easy, seamless culture?
pspppsshhhhttttfffftttttppppppbbbbb. (that is a cartoon fart noise, by the way)
