With this new snapshot, villagers can try to detect there houses and go through doors. I mean this is kind of cool, but I was expecting some serious new AI. Like the villagers talking to the player and giving them missions.
So is this new AI permanent, or are we getting more in the future?
This is actually pretty important, it would suck if villagers could talk to you and interact if they couldn't find their own homes and open/close dorrs, besides, these are snapshots. 1 step at a time
I honestly don't want them to talk or anything. I like to put them in minecarts and send them to my village where they then each claim a house. Besides, having other "players" to interact with in singleplayer would ruin SINGLEplayer.

If they do ever talk, it'll probably be in gibberish, like the enchanting book. They sure as hell don't look like the kind of folk that would already speak my language as soon as I meet them.
And I'd be ok with trading things with them every now and then, as long as they give good stuff. If I supply their village with tools or something, I want a pretty damn good reward. If they try to pass me back some stacks of gravel or something, I'm just going to slaughter them all again, like I do now. And if they ever start giving me chores (missions)...well, again, slaughtertown.
These guys are on a short leash with me...their very survival depends on it. :dry.gif:

how would it not make the game singleplay based?
for starters villagers would only stay in villages.
B talking to them would be to get quests or repair items.
how does that possibly compare with playing with other people?
I don't want missions, I want trading. It would be awesome, drop a diamond in on them, there'l give you something of the same value.
That's how I think it should be, instead of giving them garbage to get things like iron or diamonds, we spend valuables to get things we don't feel like getting, rarities(along the lines of music disks), or even special favors(repair).
no one else figured out they have more AI than opening doors? well then... let me say something:
villagers now slightly know danger, when it goes to night, all villagers go into a house,
therefore they are more sentient then opening doors,
and yes, stayng in their house while its dark DOES count as AI
So is this new AI permanent, or are we getting more in the future?
I hope there is a new AI for villagers I bet it will be soon...... I hope.
why the hell did they add them then
Yeah, that is a problem. But it is being worked on probably.
Also, @ the 'I don't want them to talk' thing...they could talk through emoticons or something.
To give life to the world, obviously.
And SlyFoxx explains it nicely:

..and yes, it takes lots of programming for simple tasks, and many simple tasks make complex tasks. They can't make villagers do everything in a day.
what I do want them to do is gather their own resources, make their own tools, houses, weapons, and armor, and try to survive just as you do.
Then why even have them?
