Endermen. Originally they were going to be minecraft's first scary mob, but now they're just another unintelligent mob. When they were released they had zombie sounds and scrolling the mouse over/near their faces would enrage them. Then the zombie sounds got replaced by just plain stupid sounds in the big sound update. Personally, they were scarier with the zombie sounds. Now they don't even care if you stare at them and they quickly forget about you seconds after being angry at you.
How is this mob remotely scary? It walks around picking up mushrooms and flowers and teleports away from arrows. It doesn't sneak up on you like a creeper does, it only responds to being attacked. And the sound effects make it all worse. Endermen need to be scary
I think the new sound effects are cool. And are you sure they no longer react to being seen?
Because if so, that's probably a bug. I don't remember seeing it in any patch notes.

Yes I am sure that they don't react to the mouse in 1.1 and the snapshots after it, and I know it probably is a bug. It just really upsets me what endermen have become

The sounds are part of their scaryness, and believe me. Being in a taiga biome at night with all the trees making even more shadow and hearing those weird sounds could scare you.
And they react to the crosshair looking at them, please dont talk as if it was facts, because, wanna hear a real fact? They still react to it.
I could make pictures
Even videos if you need. and yes, in 1.1, Even in 12w04a if you need it.

Did you ever ENRAGED an enderman? Its not really a good thing cuz if they hit you, you will take damage. When i was fighing on the end once i had 3 on my back and that was really scary because i also had the dragon.
On thing ive noticed is that they evade the arrow teleporting but that doesnt seems to enrage them at all. If you try to hit them with an arrow they should teleport to you and try to kick your butt.
EDIT watch Ethos last LP Episode and you will jump =P

Not on my pc... I spent quite a long time trying to get endermen's attention before I got the snapshots
Maybe you were trying to "enrage" them during the day. They're passive during the day, because sunlight has the same effect on them as water, without actually doing damage to them. That's why they "slingshot" around.

No, I tried it several nights in my desert biome and in the end dimension...
If you stare at enderman's bodies they get mad at you or something to the effect. When they get mad, they stay mad until they get shot at by an arrow of a skelly or touch water/sunlight.
Them getting their own sound was a degrade? For me it wasn't. I think they were more mysterious when they got the new sound.
Enderman being scary? Nothing in any videogame is scary unless it's set up to be so(a straight story line with set characters to run at you from certain positions). A mob can be intimidating because it is powerful, but I can never see scary.
Since Jon is doing AI overhauls for almost all of the hostile mobs, I'm betting we will see some new Enderman AI soon. For instance, instead of mindlessly jumping beneath you when you are up on a wall, they could either teleport behind you on top of the wall or build a staircase or something?
I'd like to see them pick up blocks at a faster rate to make little intentional potholes that will get in the way of the player.
They definitely need an AI buff though, that much is for sure.

Endermen has become more scary for me recently. Since the armor nerf, Endermen can kill you in 4-5 hits even with full iron armor. In SSP, that's not a big deal unless there is more mobs nearby while I fight it, but in SMP I can easily die by the Enderman alone.
~Snip~
Ikr? There is so much lag in SMP that when I try to hit an Enderman they don't even get damage most of the time, it is like I am swinging my sword at nothing. Luckily my wolf and fortress saved me from getting killed. The stare and scream sounds are the only sounds that actually sound scary to me, yet we don't have them in the game itself. I hope they add those soon. I have to ask though, is there a possible way to add them in the game yourself?
Yes, Endermen still get mad when you put your cursor on them. Though they will disappear if the sun comes up, they get hit by any form of water, get hit by a skeleton arrow, and from what I heard they also turn their attention to the Enderdragon if they end up getting hit by it.
Actually, come to think of it, creepers scare me. I'll be wandering down a mineshaft tunnel and when I turn a corner they will always be there glaring in my face. I also thought the aggressive zombie pigmen was scary because they would pop out of any hole in the Nether. Enderman are just mysterious to me, not really scary, except for that weird jaw thing they have. O_O
Perhaps I'm just terribly unlucky but everytime I come across an enderman I look at them, perhaps do a suprise attack and they go mad teleport somewhere else to be never seen again. They do deal quite a bit of damage but what's the point if he's all Abra.

They do, and it's hilarious.
Yeah, they need to shriek and scream at you and teleport more to kill you :biggrin.gif:
