I like the feature. That said, dyes should be used for more things, other than colouring wool. I believe the original mod maker of the pistons made another mod involving paint brushes. They should have that, so that those dyes would be of more use. Or maybe we can combine dyes with paper to make wallpaper for our houses (I've seen a mod that does this, but I don't remember who did it.) Or let us dye any block in Minecraft: Purple trees, blue grass, red water etc. That would be awesome (not awesome in terms of greifing capabilities though)
Making sheep not regrow colored wool after shearing would create a lot more negatives than it would opposites.
I agree Lapis and other dyes has lost a lot of value. But this wouldn't be the fix. There needs to be much, much more things to do with dyes. Stained glass, colored carpets, colored planks, and so on.
The problem is that the drop rate was lowered again so until sheers can be made renewable, I will just breed and slaughter sheep. It also gives me experience.

What? You refuse to shear sheep because iron isn't renewable? Are you serious? I've got iron oozing out of my pores, why in the world would you be a cheapskate with it?

Fighting ignorance and false information one post at a time.
For the record if I correct you it's not meant maliciously, but if you whine about it I AM laughing at you.
The same argument can be made with zombie pigmen dropping their nuggets on death.
"the same argument can be made" is never a strong argument against a position. It doesn't automatically mean that the current complaint is invalid. Indeed, maybe the very thing you mention is also a problem.
I don't particularly care for Ovus much, but he's absolutely right on this. This change renders the need for stocking and farming of different colors obsolete. You only need to get the color one time, and never have to worry about it again.
Plus, it makes absolutely no sense for them to regrow the same color, or have children of the artificial color.. But oh.. I know.. "arguing something doesn't make sense in a video game LULZ"...

Some people are just compulsive this way. I play with one such user who has a few hundred Iron Blocks, but can't bring himself to do anything with them because of the simple, "They are not renewable!" hang up.
Said player only uses stone tools, and leather armor; and only because of his wheat farm, tree farm, and cobblestone generator.
Back on topic:
I have wanted colored glass for ages; allowing us to craft dyes in conjunction with glass panes (giving something decorative for dyes to be consumed into again) would be delightful.
I'd also like to see lapis as a potion ingredient... but I'm bias toward potions in general.
Dyes are useful only until you've dyed a sheep that color, then they become useless.
However, as much as I agree with the above, I also disagree that sheeps should regrow white wool as it just makes it that much more of a hassle to get colored wool.
What should be done is additional alternative uses for dyes (and other single utility items...). My personal favorite happens to be "Color"stone (It's an idea, if it is not already a mod), which is using dyes to color Redstone other colors for multiple reasons.
Other good ideas include other dyeable blocks, like planks and glass, which would be like wool, purely decorative.
I could probably think up other ideas on how to increase a dye's utility, but can't think of others at the moment.
@Ovus: It's a video game. It does not have to make sense except for within the context of its own lore.

Some people just like to play that way, I do the same thing even. I'm not so tight that I won't use shears but I rarely make iron tools outside of picks and shears, armor rarer still. For me iron usually goes to pistons and tracks and I almost never let those get lost. I'm swimming in chest filled with dirt just because I don't like throwing it away, I almost never use coal except maybe to start up the production of charcoal, and I tend to be pretty sparing with creating glass blocks. I just got a thing about burning up a resource that has some theoretical limit to it despite the fact there can be plenty of it all around.
I use iron for my Industrial Crafting and proccessing factories. Of course, if I run low on iron and want to sheer a bunch of sheep, I could simply switch to creative mode to obtain the shears.

Yes, a thousand times over. Stained glass would be awesome.
This I would support.
Sheep regrowing colored wools, also an intended feature that finally after all this time is working at last.
