I finally found some lapis lazuli and decided to dye a sheep with it. I sheared the sheep and a little later, he ate grass and regrew his wool. But it was still blue! I'm not sure whether this is intentional or a bug, but if it is intentional, then blue wool is now a renewable resource.
If I helped in any way, don't click that little green +, instead tell me how much you liked the post. (Only those who are incapable of earning rep the hard way have to beg for it in their signatures).
It's intentional. It wasn't always like this but they changed it.

I personally think this needs to be changed, even if it is slyly cute.
Not only does it not make sense, but it makes gathering dye completely pointless.
No.
Well, simply because this makes wool a renewable resource, and dye wasn't really meant to be.
Also, dye isn't pointless. You need the dye to get the wool, silly =P
But if this didn't work then you'd only ever be able to get maybe a stack of brown wool at best. It kinds sucks that one wool and one wool only is that hard to get, but . . . it's necessary.
It also makes organizing sheep farms by colour MUCH easier.
P.S: I'm going to ignore your 'it makes no sense' argument as well since it should be common knowledge that that argument is instantly abolished if you use it when talking about Minecraft.

One block of lapis lazuli will supply all the dye you need for all the shades that require blue.
This renders the rest of the lapis we collect useless.

If the sky was made of warts, we'd complain that it didn't make sense.
It's a perfectly reasonable argument to make. The question is whether or not this specific unrealistic element hinders or benefits the game. In my opinion, because it renders dye collections useless, it hinders.

My Minecraft skin (in my avatar) looks like me in real life.
Dyes are only rendered useless if you dye your sheep those colors. Most of the people I play with dont do that. I only have a few brown sheep and blue sheep after I used what Im sure is ALL the lapis Lazuli in my biome

I agree that it makes collecting lazuli pointless, but then again I couldn't care less considering I've never made a colored wool block.
I think it makes sense that sheep regrow the colored wool.
If dying a sheep affects them on a deep enough level that it can be passed down to their children, it only makes sense that it'd last for life for themselves too. Like a good, old-fashioned mutation.

Yes, the dye permeates through their wool, into the DNA of their hair folicle cells. Also, somehow, they will pass their color traits onto their offspring, so you can have a whole flock of blue sheep with just two pieces of lapis now if you want!
Perhaps giving lapis lazuli a second use other than dyeing would give incentive to keep collecting it.
But it does have another use...it makes those beautiful blue blocks. Some people like decorating with diamond or gold blocks, but that just looks tacky to me. Lapis blocks are the way to go.

I want everyone to pay attention to this post. Instead of whining or asking for something to be nerfed this person decided to offer an alternative that doesn't involve nerfing anything. Kudos to you smart poster, have some rep.

Fighting ignorance and false information one post at a time.
For the record if I correct you it's not meant maliciously, but if you whine about it I AM laughing at you.
Guys, disregard every argument Ovus makes, he has had several threads deleted due to me just saying they are stupid and in the wrong section. However it is fun to rip his heart out so lets just continue...
The same argument can be made with zombie pigmen dropping their nuggets on death.
Look, no argument there, but next time use something that makes more sense for this argument, like put Lydia in charge of Minecraft development would make no sense as she doesn't seem to know that much programming.
No it's not reasonable. By your logic, you shouldn't be able to break nexus gates as you can get infinite obsidian from it, nor should you get theoretically infinite trees from one sapling.
Those are all the problems wrong with the game in the first place. There's no reason to mine coal because you can burn wood for charcoal. There's no reason to wait for crops to grow because you can instantly grow them with bone meal. Might as well remove coal from the game and remove growing crops.
And even more problems I'm not going to bother listing.

good point. people can just make sheep farms and get all the dye they ever need. :sad.gif:
I think I won't bother and still hunt for it myself though. I remember when I first played I put so much effort into getting real pretty colored dyes. I rarely saw them in the server so they were nice to have. I spent so much time getting enough to make full parts of a house with the colors.

Nothing in the game makes any sense.
I absolutely agree. Lapis Lazuli needs more uses.
