Ok, so I know you cannot get jungles in your old worlds as of now (well, there is a few ways, but these require some third-party editing program), but I'm gonna be really bummed out if they don't appear in my old world by the official 1.2 release. I don't see the problem with it, Notch used to mess with the gen code all the time, and the worst thing to come out of it are mountains that are cut in half (which isn't too bad). So if Notch can add new biomes and numerous other things to our old world, why can't Jeb make jungles appear in our old worlds? I can't imagine it'd be that hard

I don't have any problem with that , when ever the biomes change or some ting is added , I just use MBTedit and move my stuff to new crated map . It is not really complicated and I can put my base where I want.
Yeah, I mean, I COULD do that. But I've had the same map since Alpha first arrived. I have so many mountains cut in half, some people would vomit at the sight of all of them. I've kept my map legit this long, so I see no reason why I should have to edit a rainforest in when they should just randomly appear like every other biome.

i agree i will be gutted if i have to make a new world for my server and move my base into it just to get a jungle. especially since i think doing that will ruin my base since it is interconnected with the tunnel system under my base which i still want to be able to explore and im going to assume that underground tunnels are hard to move into a new world since they are below the surface? correct me if im wrong though. either way i really like my current world but it would be better with a jungle in it rather than me having to be in an entirely new world altogether just to experience a jungle. but yeah like you said theyve done stuff like this before so i will be surprised and a little disappointed if they dont make them able to appear in 1.1 worlds once the official update comes out

Exactly :biggrin.gif: Also, I have multiple bases (and I mean at least 30+) scattered across my map, all interconnected in some way. No way am I gonna be able to move all that!

Q:Why don't old worlds get rainforest biomes?
A:Whiners who think that every update to terrain gen will mean they have to restart the world.(Or have a crippling fear of minor chunk errors and crossections of mountains)
he did that specificaly so people and major servers wouldnt have to start over again from chunk errorrs when changes to generation are made.
personally i think its a great idea and keeps me content with my old world.
But you see, you can still play with chunk errors. If anything this makes you have to restart your world if you want to get to the new content, which people shouldn't have to do.

and you also shouldt have to restart to avoid chunk errors which is what so many people wanted when 1.1 came out and they asked Jeb to do it so you don have to start over. personally i like my world without chunk errors and it's pretty easy to live witout jungles.
plus i have a feeling they will add a jungle sappling so on servers you can just burn down a forest and plant new jungle trees. may require some work but better than starting over

Exactly, we shouldn't have to restart the whole game just for some new content. If anything, just make us travel to new chunks.

They add new terrain to old worlds, people complain of chunk errors. They add new terrain to new worlds so they avoid chunk errors, people complain they need to abandon their worlds.
Far too many of these topics. Please use the search tool and post your thoughts in the existing topic instead of creating a whole new one. So I shall now post what I've posted in those others, in hopes that people can actually get a sense of what the problem is:
Before this change, we could CHOOSE to have our worlds generate the new land by exploring, while at the same time getting the chunk errors/cliffs. Or, we could CHOOSE to create a new world to avoid that.
What this update does is remove that choice. We no longer have the choice to explore for new content on our old worlds if we wanted to. We have to create a new world. And then comes in the 3RD PARTY TOOL, which is not likely that 100% of the player-base is aware of. Sure, we could use it, and then comes in the choice of getting the chunk cliffing. But the focus is having to rely on a 3rd party software in order to do so.
As already mentioned, it's such as easy task using NBT to obtain the new generation. So why can't a simple, right-click-on-world in the menu be implemented? This will fill in the scattered holes where less-connected players are unaware of the situation. I don't have a problem with this change ON A PERSONAL level, but this type of change could be thought out more carefully. Let's try to think about other folk than ourselves when voting. Does the OPTION of having a right-click choice hinder you in any way? No, it gives you more freedom to do what you'd like to do, IF you want to do it.
Nevertheless, it's only a feature in the snapshot. There's no telling if Jeb will change his mind or whether or not he'll add more onto it.
And here:
You can easily get jungles in your old worlds by changing a few values in world.dat. The problem is that it will cause your biomes to shift; the grass around your house might suddenly be dark, or the water might start freezing, causing a flood of "Oh noes the ice is spreading!!!11" threads. In previous updates, the biome shifting was mandatory; now you get a choice to have that or to have your old world stay the same.
"the biome shifting was mandatory; now you get a choice to have that or to have your old world stay the same."
No, actually, you get LESS of a choice. Let's pretend for a second that no 3rd party software existed; you have absolutely no choice: you must create a new world to get the new generation. Now that actually DOES apply to those who don't know that the 3rd party software exists. You can't depend on every single Minecraft player to set out in search of it either. But as I stated earlier, changing the chunk generation is as easy as changing a SINGLE option in NBT. So there's no excuse for the lack of an internal option, in-game, for our old worlds to be switched to the new generation (with, of course, a waiver stating the consequences).
They add new terrain to old worlds, people complain of chunk errors. They add new terrain to new worlds so they avoid chunk errors, people complain they need to abandon their worlds.
This community really can never be satisfied.
It's too simple a solution; "do the opposite". Jeb needs to find the middle ground, not use bandaids.
Homem Pigman, you've posted the same thing in each of these threads, without actually thinking about what you're saying.

Don't get too attached to your worlds until terrain generation is well and truly in it's final release stage.
Don't build stuff that you can't stand to part with.
Or us MCEdit, I personally start a new world every time a new update comes out to keep things fresh.
Telling us how to play by your rules? That's not a solution.

That's actually what I think (I just copy and paste because stupid threads don't deserve typing a new post). Just what's the problem in making a new world? You don't have to "abandon" the old one, like most people say.
Back in 1.8 everyone said "HURR CHUNK ERRORS, NOTCH U RUIN OUR WORLDS!!!11!". Jeb fixes that, and now nobody likes it. I don't understand what's your problem.

there's a chance of the biome appearing in your world within the undiscovered chunks (remember minecraft is infinite)
I definitely agree with the OP. If there is some game-crashing bug that would come of it, Jeb hasn't said it. And as long as that is not the case then we would be happy with any unfortunate terrain side-effects like half-mountains.
I see no real excuse for them not to spawn in old worlds. I STILL don't get why Jeb had this conversation:
Person:"I still hate how we have to start a new world every time a new update comes. Couldn't you just let all terrain changes affect old worlds?'
Jeb:"That's why I specifically made them not affect old worlds'
Me:'WHAT THE HELL HOW DOES THAT ACTUALLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM @_@'

I know, I don't get all the hate about the chunk errors. I mean, sure it looks weird, but if it REALLY bothers you, just fix it. This is minecraft after all.
