Ok, so I know you cannot get jungles in your old worlds as of now (well, there is a few ways, but these require some third-party editing program), but I'm gonna be really bummed out if they don't appear in my old world by the official 1.2 release. I don't see the problem with it, Notch used to mess with the gen code all the time, and the worst thing to come out of it are mountains that are cut in half (which isn't too bad). So if Notch can add new biomes and numerous other things to our old world, why can't Jeb make jungles appear in our old worlds? I can't imagine it'd be that hard
Not entirely true. They probably won't appear only in multiplayer worlds. In all of my old SP worlds, jungle have appeared just fine. And changing two level.dat parameters in NBT Editor isn't too hard either.
Correct me if I'm wrong somebody, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere the issue is related to the giant trees found in Jungle biomes. The old code had leaves disappearing only a few blocks away from the trunk. With the inclusion of these giant trees (which have leaves much further from the trunk) in an old world, many of the leaves would disappear from the edges leaving them as the ugly deformed monsters they would be (unless perhaps the player could be bothered to put the leaves back when the code is fixed).
However, a new world has the fix already, so the leaves stay put. Perhaps this issue will be fixed before 1.2 is release or perhaps I know less than a garden shrub and no-one should listen to me. Either way, we will have to wait.
I think 1.0 (also 1.9pre-releases) won't get jungles. Just had a little test run with my worlds (REMEMBER TO BACKUP YOUR WORLDS BEFORE TESTING). In 1.9pre-relese genereated world didin't include jungles or chunk errors.
My oldest world, generated when beta was released, did have jungles and of course chunck errors as border of old and new
code.
Improved generation code is excellent compared to what it used to be. But where are all the NPC villages, generated lot of new terrain and nothing. NPC Villages are rare in snapshot or just unlucky?
They seem to be really rare. I've explored my Alpha 1.2.6 world for about an hour and found quite a lot of jungle and only 1 village.

Is there anyway you could show me some kind of proof of this? Because, if this is true, I'm am one happy camper. And I don't feel like exploring for hours if I don't know for sure that I can find a jungle.

Well, I can share this world, you can check the old biomes near the spawn (and my crappy old base). The border between old and new chunks can be seen easily, especially on the map. Can't think of other way to prove it.

I think I'm gonna trust your word on this one (unless, of course, you want to share your world :tongue.gif:). I'm off to explore for my new forest :biggrin.gif:

To be sure you'd better check your world in NBT editor or something. If generatorVersion=1 and generatorName=default, it should be ok. And here's that world: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25276804/World5.rar

me too
Editing level.dat is much easier, no?

Funny. I thought Minecraft was about building things.
