The 1.1 patch has change the area around my base so it now snows. I don't know what exactly changed, sinced the closest thing I can see in the patch notes to "cover everything you built in an annoying layer of snow" is "Slightly smoothed color transitions between biomes" which doesn't really describe the change.
How can I get rid of the snow and ice on what was previoulsy a nice little forest region? Is there a no-snow mod for 1.1, because I'm willing to sacrifice all the snow in the universe just to fix my little section of it.
-Excessively light the area, being close to a torch or glow-stone melts snow. (May cause some lag, as there is an issue with block updates and snow causing slowdowns)
-Go up to the map's height limit; and build a 1-layer thick glass roof. Over your entire forest, It will never snow again! (Or rain for that matter. >.>) Then all that's left is to shovel away any snow already on the ground.
Those are the only two things that come to mind at the moment... best of luck solving the issue.
The world generation coding was altered and thus the biomes shifted just as they have been sense 1.8.1 when they started editing and tweaking the land generation code to improve on it.
MCEdit is going to work best, thanks for the suggestion. Regenerating the world with the same seed confirms the start area is now a snow biome.
Torches aren't stopping water freezing, even when right next to the water, so the world will need to be abandoned as having fallen victim to a nuclear winter.

or you could put a roof over the water to stop it.
If your world is too big and you don't want to copy it over using MCEdit, you can edit the world seed in level.dat using NBTEdit until you have a summer biome, then do find/replace in MCEdit for "snow layer -> air" and "ice -> still" water.
It's still pretty complicated to do, unfortunately.
This is infuriating. My spawn area was built to suit the desert biome it is in, which is now covered in freaking snow!!
So either we have a glass ceiling which I imagine would look even more ridiculous or cover the entire area with toreches or disable weather server wide or just deal with an open air market and re-creation of the parthenon.. in snow.
I disabled weather server wide and removed the snow with world edit.
I also changed the ice to water but it began to refreeze right away.
This is so ridiculous.
I feel a little bit mentally handicapped for being so incredibly pissed off about this but I've spent a lot of time building this world and the whole area looks just ridiculous!
I migrated all my builds from 1.8.1 to the new map when 1.0.0 came out. I will not go through that again.

Edit the world seed in level.dat with NBTEdit, this combined with the changes you've already made should mostly solve your problem. You just need to find a seed that starts with a dry biome, which might take a few tries.

I appreciate the reply but that's a band-aid solution to what I consider a very inconsiderate coding oversight on Mojang's part.
If I edit the seed then I will never be able to /regen any of the area that are already generated without inconsistencies. Also, even if I don't edit my seed I'm now going to have freaking chunk areas at the border of my map.
I thought 1.0.0 was supposed to be the final version? Not that I wouldn't expect updates and enhancements beyond that but I thought this was to be the core game that everyone could count on being consistent going forward.
Pardon my language but this is bu**s**t.
This is one of the most fun games I've ever played but I've spent more time working in it and dealing with update changes than actually playing it.
Ough. This happend to me in the 1.0 update, but i think the ice was the most annoying...
I agree as well. I was about to build my harbor in the city that I was working on when I updated, then the harbor was ice. So I deleted the file, but the altering code always hurts.
I've had a map for just over a year now for free build and when I updated to 1.1 it's snowing and water is freezing. I copyed to seed to see what it would spawn me at and it was a forest no snow or tiga. I would love it fixed I worked really hard on this map.
Just wanted to let you guys know I found a workable solution.. for me at least.
I use world guard, a lot. I have regions around all my builds and have a huge one protecting the entire city. I just discovered the 'snow-fall' and 'ice-form' flags. I can use them to disable both unwanted elements in my entire city.
With 1.1 adding the official ability for multiple map generation algoithms ("normal" and "flat")and having each world associated to a specific one it would have been nice for existing worlds to be tagged "normal 1.0" and new worlds to be "normal 1.1"
That would allow new generation code to be added without destroying existing work, which is somehtinhg I expect now that the game is out of alpha and beta and into final release.
I think your best option is to obtain a no-snow mod, otherwise (unless you use a reasonable idea suggested in this thread) you'll have to live with the snow or start a new world.
The problem is, with each update that changes terrain generation, the seed changes. Your world now has a different biome arrangement. Weather is biome-dependant, and because the new world gen algorithm can't change existing terrain, it changes the biomes. Which can lead to rain or snow in biomes where that would normally not occur. There's no work-around for this because previous generation algorithms are incompatible with the new one and eachother. Your best bet is to find a new world and use MCEdit to copy over your building(s).

I Found a solution! I hope everyone see's this guy's video. All Credit to dadonn
It explains what to do and I tested it and it works. So go explore some land before doing it, or you can always change back to DEFAULT if you decide to go out exploring then back to FLAT when done!

And ruin all the effort of making a nice outdoor environment?
Glass is your friend
Just deal with it, it's normal since biomes appeared. There'll be even more changes in the future.
