I just started a new 12w03a world and i spawned on a Jungle island. So, okey, i started doing my stuff on the shore and started making a path that leads to the middle of the jungle and spreads to every point of the island.
Due the different heights i had to start building part of the paths over the trees and i saw that the big trees leaves are slwoly decaying alone dropping some jungle sapplings. The thing is that im not doing anything and they are just simply decaying untill they finally few leaves and the trunks?
I want to know if anyone else is experiencing this, if they know way this is happening and if mojang is aware of it.
I think it's a bug because the leaves are too far out from the trunk
Yes, i supose thats the problem. Now how they will fix it without "breaking" the big trees design? I like to see leaves fro mthe top and bellow, just the main trunk exposed and the branches mainly covered.
Yep it's stupid,Suddenly you see leafes to the trunk, but if the leaf block is away from trunk,it breaks. It,s stupid, leaves should:
1. Only decay if there is no trunk, simply imagine leaf block having little braches in them.
And nothing else, and this means that if a leaf is connected to a wood block, all leaves that are connected to the
"main" leaf, should not decay. That's how it works in real life,no matter how big the tree is,it won't simply dissapear.
This happens to large trees as well in forests. It leads to rather ugly forests with pyramid-shaped trees when they complete their decay.
I'm not sure if they changed large tree generation or leaf decay in recent history. I did not see the same phenomenon occur in Beta 1.7.3.
I think you are right its happening in 1.0 already i think, large trees tend to lose their leaves. For the big jungle trees its more annoying since they have less leaves and have a more defined shape, in the other hands big "oak trees" are more like a big mass and they have some branches that stop that somehow.
I think they changed the leav decay lately but for good: player placed leaves wouldnt decay or at least thats what i heard but, for me, they are still decaying.
Yeah but.... if it works like that it could happen this:
L = leaf
W = wood
(Half of the tree)
L
L L L
L L L L
L L L L L
L L L L L L
L L L L L L L
L L L L L L L L L

L L L L L L L L L L L
W L L L L L L L L L
W L L L L L L
W

Or even this:
W L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L
w
On the first spoiler you draw the lower trunk but you forgot the branches.
it seems to be only a block or two decays unless you chop out a leaf or some other block update. I watched a tree for ten minutes and nothing happened until I broke a leaf.

I didnt touched a leave and im watching the tree degrading from below. Then i cloned the world and made it creative and started watching from the tap and started to be misshapen( not sure if that word exist)
Jeb had ought to just extend the range logs can support leaf blocks to 10 or something. That way making trees by hand won't be so annoying and it'll fix this bug.

Yeah that would be better than just placing some wood block as branches to extend the support of leaves but it would be more realistic by adding branches. Hopefully Jeb is aware of this thing and he is fixing it right now.
Any1 knows when is going to be the next snapshot released?
Normal logs will keep leaves within 4 blocks from decaying. I think since the jungle trees have larger, unique leaf formations and a different type of log, jungle logs should keep leaves within 6 or 7 blocks from decaying.

That sounds like a good idea: Making jungle tree logs keep more leaves than other logs adding solving the problem and adding a nice "value"
If youshear the leaves first then place them back they won't decay
Its going to take some time to shear all the jungle and place it back... =/ TOO much time. I guess i could solve this with MCedit but im not sure if it supports the snaphot and if its going to work/worth the effort.

Heh, tell me, im about to reach 28 :wink.gif:.
Now, talking seriously... Its horrible watching your jungle degrade slowly and not be able to do much for it.
On the first spoiler you draw the lower trunk but you forgot the branches.
Good for u =)

Hopefully he is solving it right now as he is working on the jungle content.
I just saw a tree decay without me touching it also. I think its the vines growing that start the update cycle.
BBCode Render failed due to reaching MaxNestingDepth(80) for Tag: spoiler

Yeah man! that sucks... you gotta be careful where you stand or you migh fall to death.
